  • Hi everyone and welcome back to another video!
In today's episode of the Punjabi Podcast we discuss Urdu vs Punjabi. Growing up in our household we mainly spoke Punjabi, so we've never really thought about the differences between the two languages.
This was a really fun video to record!
I hope you all enjoy this video :)
    Thanks for watching!

ppl think Hindi and Urdu is more upgrade. But reality is your a Punjabi, preserve the beautiful Punjabi language. They try to say the Punjabi language is jahil, the hatred is set in the partition years to distance themselves from the land they occupy of Punjab. I would not even bother speaking Hindi or Urdu to prove a point that I am proud and not ashamed of my Punjabi roots.

Wtf Punjabi is way better than both hindi and urdu the feelings you can express in Punjab can't be expressed in any of the above language the sound of punjabi is way more soothing

In India's Punjab too, teachers focus on speaking in Hindi in schools rather than Punjabi.
    But Punjabi is love!
And yes, one should never forget his/her roots!❤️

True. Punjabi is language of everyone who is a Punjabi. This isn’t a language of any particular religion. Everyone who recognizes them as a native Punjabi person, should speak Punjabi and not fall into the propaganda set by politicians that Hindi/Urdu are superior languages.
Infact, Punjabi is much older language than Hindi or Urdu.

Amma is so cute, my village is so close to Phagwara. I feel so connected to her. In India we proudly speak Punjabi in Punjab. No doubt every language is beautiful, but it is our responsibility to protect our roots. If someone make you feel bad about speaking in Punjabi then just ignore that person because some people don’t understand what they’re losing. They are losing their roots, their culture, their identity. Everyone should feel proud of his/her culture, language and roots.

I was born and brought up in Glasgow and I remember, if I and my brothers spoke English at home, our Mum used to shout and hit us to say speak Punjabi at home as we speak English outside and at home. It’s so fun speaking to your Grand parents as they join your jokes and correct you. Even their slaps are sweet. Enjoy time with your Gran, a very precious time!! Lot’s of love from Glasgow 🙏🏽❤️

    Mistakes to be correct:
Its baghal gheer hona ... Not bagal gheer pai
We can also say galy milna or galy lagana
    Saiqal not saqal
ustani ( in urdu) not satani
    Urdu not ud'du
    Mujh ko not mujhe
    Paind in urdu is Gaun
You must learn urdu its very sweet language
And yes its compulsory for us to speak urdu in schools

Everyone have 100% right to know their native language and speak and communicate in it. Language is the main connection to your roots. But in order to connect with other people within your country there should be a single medium and that is where Urdu comes. It is a language of eloquence on which work has been done for over a century. Just like English is a medium throughout the world. But how many languages a country has determines its beauty. Pakistan has 100 languages in it and that is the beauty of it. For example Punjabi is a language which you inherited but Urdu is a language which your country taught you. You should be proud of both languages. Both are pride of Pakistan

Secondly, yes, guys should speak Punjabi as it is your mother tongue. I am from punjab, and yeah, Punjabi is our mother tongue as well as urdu is our national language. Urdu is a polite language, but there is no match of punajbi language. Do not feel uncomfortable in speaking punjabi.

Jhapi in common urdu is "galay lagana". Bagalgir is not commonly use anymore.
