    Also the miniatures are a representation of the family being toyed with and manipulated like dolls and puppets by powers beyond their control.

    I think her father dying of starvation is because Ellen was trying to put Paimon in her husband first and he starved to death rather than eat or drink anything Ellen was preparing for him. After he died she moved on to her son. That’s how I interpreted it anyway. Absolutely enjoyed your reaction and commentary to this movie!

    • @daddybendover69
      @daddybendover69 8 місяців тому +16

      Well also we see Annie wipe away something from her tea when Joanne gives her it. I think that that opened her up to possession or something, which makes sense why he would be reluctant to eat anything.

    • @20000dino
      @20000dino Місяць тому +4

      @@daddybendover69 Honestly, why didn't he just go to Mc Donalds. I believe this theory as well, and I find it to fit the narrative and tone of the film, but realistically, it wouldn't be THAT hard not to starve to death. If only he knew how to cook, maybe things could've ended differently. Binary gender roles were the end of him lmao.

    • @sarahhamaili2197
      @sarahhamaili2197 Місяць тому +6

      @@20000dino I also think that the starvation part plays into the fact that for him to get possessed he needed to have a healthy body like they said in the end, so maybe he did that on purpose and kept himself unhealthy for that purpose. So I'd say that in this case it doesn't seem that unrealistic for him to starve himself.

    • @20000dino
      @20000dino Місяць тому +5

      @@sarahhamaili2197 That would hypothetically make sense - although then again, Charlie/Paimon possesses Peter's body literally after getting his face smooshed against a desk, smashing through a glass window, and falling two stories to his death. I'm not sure these people's definition of "healthy" align with ours lmao.

    • @m.s.5370
      @m.s.5370 Місяць тому

      @@20000dino Well, we did see Paimon being able to manipulate a decapitated body, so the bar must not be that high. I think 'healthy' to this entity just means 'relatively undamaged'

    This detail really puts a lot together
    “my daughter was killed”
    instead of
    “my daughter died”
    because it was an accident, the brother didn’t mean to kill her.

  • @sephacevedo190
    @sephacevedo190 8 місяців тому +95

    Paimon and Charlie are essentially the same entity. Charlie was possessed the moment she was born (Annie confirms by saying she never cried as a baby, even when she was born.) and wasn’t really able to comprehend that she was Paimon, but it explains why she subconsciously did things that would entail she was inhabited by the king of hell.

    You're spot-on with saying that it doesn't feel like a typical horror movie - it feels almost like you yourself are living through a horrible family tragedy, and there's this QUEASY feeling of guilt and shame and disgust, mixed in with all the creepiness and fear.

    Toni's scream was more terrinfying for me, that actually seeing charlies head. The way Toni put so much efford to show us, how her character was feeling. The sensation of pain, so deep that only a parent can feel. We all agree that Toni should had at least been nominated to best actress... but... no! Alex (peter) was also amazing, that he was so invested in his character, that actually broke is nose, hitting his face against the desk. The way Alex shift into a normal teen, to a traumatic till the point of having panic attacks and later on been completly alone... it always brake my heart, when Annie is chasing him, and he is screaming "mom"... he is just lost and doesnt know what to do, except wanting his mother back and normal.

    Worst thing about the car scene is it actually happened. John Kemper Hutcherson was driving drunk while his friend leaned out the window to vomit. John swerved due to his drunkenness and sideswiped a telephone pole wire, decapitating the friend, and John drove home and slept in his bloody clothes, while a passing neighbor saw the body.

    Really glad to see someone else reacting to this. I literally had to watch an explanation video from Netflix about this movie, as I struggled to understand it at first. It’s one of those where you pick up on loads of stuff on future rewatches. For example, when Peter completely freaks out in class and has his arm all contorted and raised, it’s exactly the same as the staff that Paimon has in the book and on the wooden statue at the end. Also, when Peter jumps out the window at the end, you see a dark shadow (his soul) move away from his body, while the bright light that’s been hanging around (Charlie/Paimon) moves into him. It’s a really clever, disturbing movie and I rewatch it every Halloween as part of my horror marathon.

    Collette is QUEEN 👸 🎭 I hope she does get the opportunity to get that Oscar because she’s been consistently great in so many different roles that you’d think she’d already have one by now. Sadly, she’s only been nominated for The 6th Sense, supporting role. Genre bias is annoying. If they put in the work and give a great performance, reward them, or at the very least, nominate them.

    Great reaction to a brilliant tension horror. When was the last time a horror film made you nearly jump out of your seat with a mere tongue click?
    A bit of geekdom regarding the lore behind this. They lore regarding King Paimon is almost all spot on! there are only a couple of diversions from the historic lore.
    1. King Paimon is actually 1 of 9 Kings in Hell, not 8. The number 8 was chosen so it could be matched up to a direction of the compass & add a bit of extra depth to the story.
    2. The beheading thing has nothing what so ever to do with the lore of King Paimon. The reason it was used in the film is because of the artworks we have of King Paimon on his camel. There are 3 heads hanging from his belt in the artwork. So that was used so it could add a bit of gore to a couple of scenes to heighten the tension.
    3. Tony Collette's floating body is well within Paimons abilities. His lore says he is able to bend & break the rules of physics. So floating would be kind of easy.
    I hope this adds a bit of extra shiver to the film.
    Also a bit of advice if you do watch Midsommar. No hallucinogenics or alchohol before or during that film. It is trippy enough as it is.
    Hope everyone is having an amazing week & much love to all from here in the UK
