    Very cool. I have an 05 200 xcw. I bought it last year are redid it over the winter from the frame powder coating on up. I love the dam thing. 200’s are awesome.
    There’s a few swaps out there that have put more modern plastic , tanks, seats and subframe on the older bikes to update the look. It’s cool although the old look doesn’t bother me.
    From my experience:I have newer style triple clamps and the older stock forks. I wish the Kreft AER 48’s on my 300xc were as plush. At lower speeds. I also wish the Lectron on my 300xc was as crisp as the old Keihin pwk38 on my 200.

    @mw4518 Рік тому

    Hey Kincade! I have a newer 200 (2013) that I’ve had forever, and here is some things I have learned with mine.
    1.Front end upgrade. Your 2006 will have 18-20 adjustable clamps, whereas the newer stuff is mostly 22mm. The old clamps will work with those new forks, if that is what you want to do. The 22mm newer clamps may make the bike feel more stable, if that’s what you are looking for. My 200 came with 22s, and I swapped them with 20s to give it better front end traction; however I do ride in very tight singletrack where I rarely get out of 4th gear.
    2. Clutch: I currently run a Brembo Slave cylinder with a Magura Master cylinder, so I wouldn’t worry too much about your scenario. The only thing I would be worried about is that the Brembo clutches usually take brake fluid, whereas the Maguras use mineral oil. My bike originally had all Brembo (clutch and master), so it has all the proper seals to handle the much nastier brake fluid. My concern with your setup is that it doesn’t have the correct seals to handle brake fluid, so if a seal goes in the slave cylinder, your engine gets completely trashed. You may be able to find a substitute that both of the components like. (I run a mineral oil based ATF in mine)
    3. Motor: The 200 motor is crazy versatile, and extremely customizable. A lot of parts from different years and models (SX, XC, XCW) interchange to give you any sort of power you like. The best mod I did was put an SX CDI (from a 2010 150sx) in my 200, as it livened it up a ton without sacrificing bottom end. Yours, being a 2006, you may be able to only use 2003-2007 125-200 CDIs, but don’t quote me on that.

    • @KincadePavich
      @KincadePavich  Рік тому

      Thanks for the info! Much appreciated. Someone else commented about the brake fluid vs. mineral oil too - I haven't researched to see if there is a Brembo slave that will fit my engine. If there is, I may swap to Brembo all around. If there isn't, even a newer Magura master would be a great upgrade. I also wonder if the Brembo master + Magura slave combo would function properly with mineral oil, or if the Brembo master somehow requires brake fluid. Seems there is a danger in using brake fluid in place of mineral oil, but I'm not sure there is a danger in trying mineral oil in place of brake fluid? Though I don't fully know the properties of each of them. Interesting note on the CDI swap; I'll do some research in that area!

    • @mw4518
      @mw4518 Рік тому

      @@KincadePavich No problem man, your vids are awesome!! The worry with brake fluid is now corrosive it is. Say, for example, the slave seal went, it would basically pump an extremely corrosive fluid into your motor, basically destroying it. Good luck with everything, hope the build turns out awesome… they usually do!

The early models were horrible for the quarter turn. First year of that. Once I had it replaced (KTM had a recall) it didn't leak. Maybe I was lucky, but you might try a newer replacement cap if you don't want to run a different tank or a 07 tank (same, but different material and cap).

    • @KincadePavich
      @KincadePavich  Рік тому

      I wonder what the effects of a switch would be? If that fluid requirement is a result of something in the master, or some seal in the slave? I'll do some digging - I suppose the only concern is fluid somehow leaking past the slave. Thanks for the comment!

    • @vegardberve
      @vegardberve Рік тому

      @@KincadePavich I think usually the seals will swell and you get a stiff clutch or it just straight up leaks everywhere.
      Maybe the bolt patterns on the slave is the same so you can just swap the whole thing to a Brembo?

    • @KincadePavich
      @KincadePavich  Рік тому +1

      Great question! Definitely need to figure out what’s possible - if maybe it’s possible to switch the brembo master to mineral oil, or if there is a brembo slave that will fit this engine. Still in early stages of planning all this!

  • @HTAracing558
    @HTAracing558 Рік тому

    old magura uses mineral oil. if you put the brembo clutch (dot 4/5.1) the magura sleeve cylinder gaskets will get leaky en crack and so on (tried it once on a trip and i broke the clutch purse... didn't last long). maybe if you change the o-rings etc. aswell it will work.... otherwise a 2018 husqy magura clutch setup?

    Love the build! Ive got an 02' 125sx im currently rebuilding and wanting to do this same front end swap. Is it possible for me to use the OEM 02' tripple clamps and just fabricate an adapter plate like the ones sold for the new generations? or do the 2020 front fenders not fit correctly between the tripple clamps?

    • @KincadePavich
      @KincadePavich  Рік тому +1

      Problem is the new gen fenders bolt onto the front of the clamp - it might be able to be done, but you'd need to make a pretty robust adapter with threads on the front I believe. Issue you might run into is fender sitting too low or too far forward. Not sure though, have not tried. Fenders are cheap - if that's the route you want to go, I'd buy one and see if you can modify it to work! That's what I did for the CR250 build and it turned out solid.

    Nice, man. Im rebuilding a 2005 250 exc, very similar bike (nearly done) have a look at oberon clutch upgrade, im pairing that new slave cylinder with a new brembo master that allows better performance and you can move to using dot 4 instead of mineral oil. Should look it up. The magura masters are weak and prone to corrosion internally and the oberon slave upgrade is much stronger than the magura and better sealed (its billet too, so looks nice). Its been a while since i loooked at it but i am notnsure the brembo will work with the magura slave because the magira has to run mineral oil and the brembo is designed for dot4/5. Hence my reasoning

    Kind of a cool idea, but the problem with that generation of KTM wasn’t the front end, it was the rear end. You’ll have nice forks with a linkageless rear end that’s stiff and bouncy, super easy to swap out especially in high speed enduro. Wouldn’t go too crazy on this one’s budget, you’ll be right back on your 350 when it’s done

    • @KincadePavich
      @KincadePavich  Рік тому

      I don't think I'll push it on this bike in terms of speed the way I do on my 350, but I still think the front end will help a lot with my level of comfort on it. The rear end hasn't bitten me yet, but I have been warned of it. That said, I'm really aiming to see how capable I can make this thing for hard enduro type riding. I know the front end won't have that much impact on that, but other items will - SmartCarb, gearing, tire selection, etc. Stil lots of planning to do for this, but overall I'm looking forward to the project itself as well.
