Thanks for sharing. Can you route different incoming MIDI channels to different outgoing MIDI channels? I want to set up MS so that all my outboards are accessible by one controller but the instrument that plays depends on the out I choose on the controller (ex. I send MIDI on Ch 1 to control my OB-6, Ch 2 to play the Prophet, etc.). Current state, every synth plays at the same time regardless of which channel I send signals out of the Keylab or which channel I assign to each outboard in MS.

You should be able to do this by first setting up your controller in the layout area. But instead of trying to get different midi channels to control different hardware, I'd personally try setting up a few patches in the edit area and for each, adding an external midi challenge strip and assigning external for each patch. The alternative might also be to go to the concert level at the edit level and create a few external midi assignments for each hardware and assign a different midi channel to each. Hope that helps.

Hi. Every time I try to use an external instrument strip in Mainstage using my Kronos, I keep getting a midi echo. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi. MIDI echo meaning your midi commands are running over one another? From what I know, sometimes this happens if you’ve added it to patches and that routing already exists at the concert level. That would be the first place I’d look.

@@CINIMA Sorry, not midi commands but an audio echo from the Kronos. When I route my Kronos keyboard through an external channel strip in Mainstage I get an audio echo of the Kronos sound (piano, for instance). I can hear the Kronos processed by either MS or 3rd party FX but at the same time I’m hearing a kind of Doppler effect of the unprocessed signal from the Kronos mixed with the processed one in Mainstage. But whether I use fx or not, I’m hearing both signals. If I was using Logic I’d run the Kronos in local off and use track record to hear the Kronos through Logic. It doesn’t work that way in MS though. Any ideas? The routing seems like it should be straightforward but I must be doing something wrong - I just can’t figure out what. Thanks.

@@user-cm3yg3dn5t Hi Erik, ok that makes more sense. More than likely, the routing is being doubled somewhere. First thing I would look at is assignments and mapping at the concert level to make sure that routing doesn't already exist and therefore, the signal being doubled when being added at the patch level. I'll look through MainStage today as well to see if I can find another potential way this problem is happening.

@@CINIMA It turns out I wrongly thought I needed to use Kronos Sound, a Korg software app that would allow the hardware Kronos to function as a plugin. What it was doing was creating an audio echo. When I changed that setting (at the top of the external instrument channel strip) to the Volt interface, my problem was solved - no more echo. It wasn’t a concert level problem, just a routing assignment in the channel strip. Thanks for taking time to help.

Now I’m able to use my Kronos with either MS or third party XF with no problem
