    1) It's a video about Geographic challenges/issues, not a comprehensive history lesson. I'm guessing that's why it says "Angola's Geographic Challenge" at the top.
    2) "They didn't even mention the civil war" - except for the part at 1:17 where they mention the civil war...

The problem in so many African countries, is that the modern nations are laid out along borders created in the Colonial Era. And those Colonial Era borders were created without any reference to tribal boundaries.
Any time you are trying to understand anything in sub-Saharan Africa, you need to look at tribal issues. Credit Stratfor with at least trying to stress that, but Angola is far, far too complex a topic to even summarise in two minutes. They didn't even mention the civil war.

angola should make 1 country with Congo. (and then all Africa should join together, at least subsaharan)

Thats why I have a ton of respect for the African Union, they're able to unite more than most other countries.

Angola seems like it could have great potential, but is too big for its own good. Navigable rivers, a good port, and good farmland is pretty rare in Africa, not to mention oil & gas.

Lol. The fact that someone takes conflict in Africa to this day and still finds a way to blame colonists never ceases to amaze me.

but seriously, african borders are inventions of the Europeans, they should either make states based on individual tribes or join all together, they all speak Bantu languages and English has become important in all countries in the world, most of subsaharan Africans are christian in some way, etc etc. let alone they're freaking poor so one union would benefit them i think

  • @Neshuah1

Good try by the video makers to describe Angolas ethnics challenges. Well, this video analysis is basically wrong. Angola has at least 24 different native languages, meaning 24 different ethnic groups. And the Civil war wasn’t about ethic challenges. It’s just that some bad guys like J. Savinbi took advantage from this differences to plant hatred on the differences. Actually the Umbundos suffered a great cultural corruption of their values, at the gun point from the Unitas criminals.

it always reminds me of the Monty Python sketch "What have the Romans ever done for us ?"
    .
if anything the Europeans brought their excellence into savage parts of the world. they started to kill each other once the governance left, it's their nature
if we never had the urge to explore and roam the seas, they would still be killing each other with spears and stones and selling each other to slavery, less efficient but still the same
    .
