Never got to a full eclipse here in England. About 90% perhaps, withmultiple weird blue crescents and light rays at about the 10 o'clock position - very apocalyptic and weird.

I'm glad you're posting these Chris. I didn't experience this one, but I was fortunate enough to view a total eclipse some years ago. I was among a large group of people, and I remember a hush coming over the whole crowd, and then spontaneous applause - which is a slightly strange thing to do, I don't think that sun could hear us - but at the same time a very human reaction. I couldn't help but relive some of this watching your own eclipse, and it was hard not to get caught up in your enthusiasm for the event!

The ancient Greeks believed that an eclipse was a punishment and abandonment; the English word “eclipse” is derived from the Greek “ekleípō”, meaning disappearance. And, whilst it was pretty awesome, I've often heard that an eclipse seen from the edge of the path of totality can be even more spectacular. This observer seemed to be fortunate enough to have a very chilled experience all round.

I've never seen a total eclipse before, other than on TV, but this video really put me on the scene. I did experience a partial eclipse 30-40 years ago in northern Wisconsin. Went into my front yard, armed with two white paper plates, one with a pinhole in the center, turned my back to the sun, and watched the sun imitate a phase of the moon---on a paper plate. Got no side effects, though, as it was only partial. Thanks for posting this, Chris. Everybody stay safe.

Hi Chris, I remember being in my first total eclipse in 1999 here in the UK, it was just so surreal. From my vantage point on a hill I could look down at my horses in the field and they just froze and stopped eating, it got real cold and the wind picked up and everything was just silent, very weird but a very cool experience. The part of the eclipse at 3:45 in the video is called the diamond ring as that is just what it looks like. I glad you got to experience it, there is nothing that really compares to the feelings you get when it hits totality and then you see the sun start to shine again, awesome. Thanks for sharing this 2017 footage, take care. xx

My first time of experiencing such an eclipse was at school where we were all given those eclipse spectacles in the morning and we were told that when the time would come we would be asked to go out to watch this phenomenon. I still remember it was lunch time and the eclipse had just started so i went outside and wore those spectacles. I was just amazed at that scene since it was a first time and the eclipse was like a quarter in. By the time the sun was fully covered, I was in the school gym playing badminton. I vividly remember thinking about how dark it was for 1p.m and we even had to switch on the lights for some minutes during which we were called outside to watch the eclipse. It was honestly a wonderful experience.

That looked like a great place to watch it. Surprised at how cold it got as you said it was in the 80s. Monday, April 8, 2024 will be a total eclipse in parts of the US (Texas through Maine) and elsewhere. The path of totality passes through central New York State near where I live, so I'll be in the 99% viewing range. But being it's in April AND central NY, it may be cloud city above us (ha ha). Fingers crossed. Great video!

I was at work when this happened. I live in Florida, so we didn't get the full view but it was noticeable and it did get slightly dark. It was like when you look out through lightly tinted windows.
My mom however, at the time was living just outside of Portland. She was saying people came from all over the region to watch and it became dark enough that the street lights automatically came on.
    Crazy awesome.

This is so awesome. I live in Atlanta and experienced something like 95% totality years back and it was soooo cool the way the light was and all the crescent moon shadows from the trees leaves. It reminds you of dusk but it's so eerily different. You can't put it into words but it's almost like an Instagram filter or something. Really cool you got to see 100% totality. I plan on witnessing it next time it rolls through on April 8th 2024.

I was also in Nebraska for the eclipse! We were in the southeastern part near the Kansas border though. We were very fortunate that we got to see it, because it rained that morning and it had just cleared up by the time the eclipse started. It was one of the more surreal things I've ever seen and I am so glad I traveled all the way to Nebraska to see it!

Hey this was actually good coverage of what it's like. I went to Cape Reinga, New Zealand in late 2012 and watched a full eclipse sitting under a lighthouse with a friend, wearing eclipse glasses. But experiencing the waning light across the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean as the sun disappeared, I'll never experience that again it was one of a kind

I'd love to see a total solar eclipse someday! I saw a partial eclipse in 2017 and it was really cool, about 78% here. I was the only one super impressed by it. At about 50% I was like "OMG it's like there's a cloud blocking the sun BUT I CAN STILL SEE THE SUN, OMG wow this is so cool!" and at the most it got I was like "wooooooah, this is surreal and so wonderfully eerie", I was so in awe I almost started to cry from overwhelming joy, my mouth hung open in awe, I even drooled on myself a little. I had to keep reminding myself not to look at it. A few people were like "if she's that impressed by this, imagine if she sees a total eclipse". I also was in awe the time I saw a total lunar eclipse in early 2019. Both were awe-inspiring, a little ominous and eerie, but wonderful, grand, magnificent, spectacular sights. We're getting a 95% solar eclipse here in April 2024. I imagine that'll be similar to experiencing a total eclipse?
