The back story between Beckett and Jack is amazing, and it gives a lot more depth and understanding to key aspects of this movie. The basic idea is that Jack used to be a privateer working for the government and the East Indian Trading Company in a ship called the Wicked Wench. For his last job, Beckett order Jack to transport some "cargo" from Europe/Africa to the new world, of course the cargo this time was 100 slaves. Jack did not like that, and he ended up betraying the government, turning into a pirate and freeing all the slaves. As punishment, Beckett set the Wicked Wench on fire and was lost at sea, Jack while trying to save the ship managed to get Devy Jones to bring the ship back from the depths (13 years capitan follow by 100 years of service) and due to all the fire damage, the ship was completely black, getting rename as the Black Pearl. Moving forward to this movie, when Devy Jones asks for 100 souls or 100 years of servitude, it's not a random number, it's actually due to the number of slaves.

Theres confusion among fans about wills situation with the dutchman and soul. IF Wills father had not joined the table in the spot that he did, Will would have lost. At the time he was playing the game, his soul was not bound to the dutcman as the deal was not settled between Jsck and Davey. Will put his soul on the line and said it didnt .atter if he won or lost, he just needed to know where the key was. Will, as usual, was ignorantly wrong. If he lost to Davey, then his soul would be bound to the ship, not Davey. When they join service, they dont join Davey, they join the ship. And they all become a part of the ship. Thats why the crew looks all cursed. Wills father, bootstrap, poaitioned himself between davey and will, also allowing him to make a sacrafice to save wills soul. Theres an extended cut of the movie that adds these extra scenes, and it explains the ship and screw aspect as well as the game. Cant fathom why it was cut.
the deleted scenes of the franchise are criminal, the scene explaining why jacks soul is worth 100 is particularly impactful. He freed an entire slave ship of the East Indian trading company therefore his soul is worth more than the average man.
They crew is cursed because of Davey Jones tho. The ship doesn't change them just because. Jones stopped ferrying souls and that's when the curse took hold. If he went back to ferrying souls then the crew would look normal. Albeit still have to serve 100 years on the Dutchman. But other then that yes correct ^-^

If the wind is blowing towards you, The Flying Dutchman become the fastest ship..Because the sailcloths of that ship has so many big holes, the wind can't slow it down..But if the wind blows from behind to your front then the fastest ship become The Black Pearl.. A good chunk of people both boys and girls had posters of him on their wall back in the day. Girls = Hot pirate love story of the Caribbean, Boys = Legolas awesome fighting style. It was never a problem for me, maybe now in hindsight it's a little bland but whatever it never bothered me while watching Lotr or Pirates to the point I could no longer see the character and only the actor. Maybe the epicness of these films helps to mask it but what do I know?
No Davey Jones is not a real pirate. He's one of MANY famous sea folklores. He basically represent hell or the afterlife/abyss for pirates or seafarers in-general.

A good chunk of people both boys and girls had posters of him on their wall back in the day. Girls = Hot pirate love story of the Caribbean, Boys = Legolas awesome fighting style.
It was never a problem for me, maybe now in hindsight it's a little bland but whatever it never bothered me while watching Lotr or Pirates to the point I could no longer see the character and only the actor. Maybe the epicness of these films helps to mask it but what do I know?

No Davey Jones is not a real pirate. He's one of MANY famous sea folklores. He basically represent hell or the afterlife/abyss for pirates or seafarers in-general.
