My dad was a Marine in WW2 and he was issued a BAR. On Guam he got a Johnson LMG. He carried that and loved it. He said it was lighter and easier to get through the jungle. he called it a "Buck Rogers gun".

The gun was a Browning Hi-Power, which was made by Inglis during the Second World War.. The Canadian military stuck to the Hi-Power for many decades, although they seem to be looking for a replacement now. Odds are very high that John is a Canadian.

@@9drtr oh okay. I have long thought that the browning high power should have been a much more widely used firearm especially in the usa early on. I know 9mm has gotten hotter but a 13 plus 1, 9mm sure beats an 8 shot 45 any day. Hell, I'd rather have a 13 or 14 shot .380 or .32 than perhaps an 8 shot .45. In reality its about shots on target and shot placement. You can miss as easily with a .45 as a .380 so I'd much rather have the shot quantity. But damn that hi power was a nice nice weapon designed very early and silly not to have been adopted by usa. Those canadians were smart.

@@thornyturtleranch6152 We had the Hi-Power dropped in our laps. When the Germans occupied Belgium in 1940, some of FN's engineers escaped with the original engineering blueprints for it and they wound up in Canada. Inglis made some under contract for China, which was at war with Japan at the time. By the time that contract was fulfilled, the army was looking for any handgun they could get because the stocks of Colts in .455 was pretty much depleted. They looked around and lo, a company in Toronto was making the best handgun in the world.

John Blood - Yes, we have to make peace with our enemies. It might seem very personal while a war is raging, but when it ends and the hype goes, we should realise that most of us (both sides) are just people who were caught up in something bigger than ourselves.
My dad and uncles fought on one side of WW2 and my partner's two grandfathers were both killed on the other side. They weren't in the same battles, mercifully - so my family can't have killed any of her family. She isn't bitter about the war, but prefers not to think about it. We have a lovely painting that one of those grandfathers painted.
Germany eventually recovered from the war and it has become one of the most prosperous and civilised countries/regimes the world has ever known. If we need to move one day, Germany is high on our short list of countries to live in.
I ask of anyone who still commemorates WW1 & WW2 on 11th November to emphasise reconciliation and appreciation for the sacrifices made, and play down the victory over our enemies thing. It would be nice if German & Japanese families were made to feel welcome at such commemorations.

A regulation I would hope we could all agree on is requiring a 4473 or state issued CHL (or equivalent) for private sales. I love going to gun shows but hate it when someone I don't feel good about for whatever reason asks me a price for what I brought in. I'm not in the business of "profiling" but I've seen many transactions at shows that made me uncomfortable. One would think prison tattoos would be an automatic disqualifier, but not for some people. I have also seen many overt straw purchases which are already illegal. If we don't find a way to accept even modest changes to limit criminals' access to weapons, or at least make it more difficult and costly for them, then eventual harsh regulations written by people who don't understand collectors are inevitable.

A lot of people who do private sales will ask to see a concealed carry permit. That's pretty good validation.
But I do object to background checks for private sales; that isn't a loophole, it was explicitly added to the Gun Control because it was a requirement to pass it.

@@williammccaslin8527 Guy picks out the gun, points it out, other guy takes his money and makes the purchase, handing the pistol back to the guy who picked it out. Not just one time and all in front of the dealer. This is not a just-one-time thing. Go to a gun show in a major city and watch for yourself.
One time I traded for a Tek-9 just to see if it was really that awful and whether my gunsmithing skills could make it reliable. Just curiosity really. It was truly irreparably awful. Took it with me to a gun show in Dallas to get rid of it. couldn't believe the number of gang looking thugs who came out of the woodwork offering to buy it. I did eventually sell it to one guy who at last spoke English. Had no fear he could do much harm with that useless thing.
We shouldn't be put in that situation. How are we to know if someone is a bad guy? It is a fact that people not allowed to posses weapons go to gun shows to get them. Adding a booth to gun shows to do transfers for $20 would be easy. If we don't agree to something like that we will have stricter regulations forced on us.

Tom, what an enjoyable, educational, envious viewing experience.
Two items, a correction and a "review:" 18:20 - 18:51 This Colt, as you describe and the Colt letter specifies, is indeed a Model 1878, DOUBLE action in caliber 44 WCF (.44-40). SO -- that is not the Sheriff's Model, which you term it. The Sheriff's Model is a traditional Single Action Army with a shorter barrel, 4" or 3", and manufactured without the ejector rod and its housing. In fact other designating monikers of the era were "ejectorless" Single Action Army and Storekeeper's Model. The trigger, occupying the middle position within the trigger guard lets us know it's a double action; whereas the single action model's trigger (of the Sheriff's Model) sits at the rear portion of the trigger guard. . . . The buyer will certainly appreciate the letter from Colt, authenticating the particulars.
00:41 - 00:46 Such a camera-pleasing, audience-grabbing, natural talent you're blessed to have with "the screamer" (?rehearsing for Halloween?) startling us and most definitely leading us to wonder 'just what IS inside?' at the moment and, for some of us, intermittently throughout your captivating presentation's 46 mins. Also 'is the young actress to make a return appearance at the 45:30 mark with "a big reveal" of the box's contents?' Ed. - "No." . . . We are relieved to see the child has the proximity, comfort and security of the dog -- obviously in on the gag. And all the lights on.
Thanks, Legacy Collectibles; I had fun throughout. And learned "a lot of neat stuff."

And I pretty much gave it away for the price and a collector out in the Midwest actually drove to Pennsylvania to pay me for it and he said it was 100% original signed by Hitler. I have a video of it on youtube right before i sold it under a differant name. If you want to look at it online I can let you know the link
