    I know there will be lot of fans out there who will not agree with me. For me, importance of having a perpetual calendar is knowing any day I look at it, it shows the correct date. So I will trust it more than anything else in this world. But for a mechanical watch that will stop running any day after the power reserve runs out, having a perpetual calendar is not as helpful as having perpetual calendar on a quartz, which will only stop once for couple of years. I'm not trying to prove anything here. But it's just the way I see it.

      I just watched this video, (4 years later), and have been looking at my next purchase for around £350. I love perpetual calendar watches but wouldn't be able to afford the service or repair costs let alone the cost of buying one. I didn't want to buy a mechanical watch just for the sake of it as I have a titanium Ciga Design Z series which is accurate and good value. For someone who is interested in this type of watch but has little cash to spend I looked at quartz and after sifting through lots of Japanese toy looking watches I found the Tissot traditional perpetual. A quality Swiss manufacturer and looks good if you like a dress watch design.

    Seriously, if you're a new subscriber or looking for a fantastic pre-owned watch, check out del ray watch supply. Just ignore the cartier pasha gmt day night -- she's mine! Anywho, ive been eyeing that britling for some time now. Glad it made the list. Cheers, Federico

    Hey Fed, sorry but that Montbrillant Olympus by Breitling that you spoke about in the end of your video is an annual calendar, not a perpetual calendar. Maybe there was a mistake in Chrono24, but I've checked several sources and all of them say it's a semi-perpetual ie needs to be adjusted on leap year.

    • @FedericoTalksWatches
      @FedericoTalksWatches  6 років тому +11

      DAMN IT! new it was too good to be true. It is an annual... Thanks for the correction!

    • @redzuan6425
      @redzuan6425 5 років тому +1

      A little late to the game but I think the Olympus is not an annual calendar. It is a 4 year calendar. It takes care of 28 days February (annual calendars require an adjustment every February). The Olympus only requires a manual adjustment at the leap year where February has 29 days.

    Never heard of the IWC Novecento and I love it for its simplicity. A second hand would be nice though. As for the Breitling, I'd still go for 1461 Transocean. Having to set a calendar once every 1461 days is not really a problem, and its black dial has a little of Patek feel to it (I think) - at 1/20th of the price of a typical Patek perpetual chrono.

    Sadly I can't afford the service or repair costs of a mechanical perpetual calendar watch let alone the purchase price. Tissot have a quartz traditional watch which ticks all the boxes and that is where my money will be going next unless my numbers come up and then it is a trip to patek

    New to watches...I am not understanding what makes two watches different value if they both have ETA movements? It seems like we are paying a premium for the dial design and name. Is that correct?
    Thanks

    • @FatSamEIE
      @FatSamEIE 6 років тому +4

      John Hoffman a watch is more than movement. The finishing on a watch, the dial, materials, prestige/branding etc
      There are also different grades of the same movement. The eta2824 is one of the most popular work horse movements and can be found in a Hamilton for a few hundred or a Tudor for a few thousand or a Jeanrichard with an Rrp of a few thousand but easily available for under a grand.
      The finishing of the Jeanrichard and Tudor will be significantly better than the Hamilton. The Hamilton and Tudor have more heritage yet the Hamilton and Jeanrichard will be a lot cheaper.

    Good video! I was searching for perpetual calendars under 10K and i settled on the Breitling Navitimer Perpetual calendar for about 5K (REF:A38022) . No moonphase, 4 sub dial/tri compax layout ,classic navitimer slide bezel make it an insane deal for that price.

      you know, they have perpetual autos that just have the date window. It means you never have to worry about changing the date. Although, in an automatic, that's very unlikely unless you never take it off or always use a winder.

    When I think Perpetual calendar I think dress watch... For that reason the Breitling Perpetual or i believe it's a semi-perpetual calendar is off the table (although I feel it will be the popular choice because of it's size and the Navitimer's popularity)
    I would have to go with the Da Vinci ... The Omega looks "Cheap" for some reason and the IWC tank is just not that attractive to me.. The Frederique Constant just doesn't have street cred! They're a victim of their own actions...Over producing watches then dumping them onto the grey market ( I think I heard this from Fed(?) but it's true anyway..
