Great video! Appreciate this very particular info. At first, I thought you’d elude to the Asylum staff being competitive with the Maelstorm staff. Thanks!
As with all changes like this status effect buff, the simplest way to make it more useful for everyone without being abused is to CAP the # of buffs per second then tweak the value. For instance, instead of ALL first ticks of status gets 500 extra damage (where as you say Xy people will just massively stack into that) what about only the 4 status effect per second can get 1000 extra damage. That way stacking more than 4 won't give anything but even doing one or 2 will be a nice little bonus. Or even diminishing returns, first status effect gets 3K, second 2K, 3rd 1K, 4th zero per second.
I feel like this setup could work great with scathing mage, as so many direct damage procs are going off. It will finally make the set one of the better choices for spell damage
@@Business101HQ it seemed like a buff to unoptimized builds and a nerf to optimized ones but even then it looks so bad i'm starting to think i'm getting it wrong so let's say you do 30k DPS with single target skills, that would require proccing 6 status effects per second to even out or am i missing something? edit : oh well i play magden anyway and frost staff got some small buffs with the added pen so i can't complain, not sure if it will be worth to run a backbar lightning/fire now for the HA dot or the buff to DoTs (do you know if you only need to cast the skill while wielding the staff or you need to have it equipped to benefit from the 12% dmg increase?)

Flame staffs now have essentially the same effect as the sunderflame set….. and you’ll be able to stack them potentially? That actually sounds interesting maybe? Gonna have to try that I think :D Edit: since they’ve made them essentially sunderflame in a staff, maybe making it more like Valkyn skoria would be better so the heavy attack would do like a little meteor that does splash damage? That would be way cooler honestly imo.
I think they're attempting to give weapons certain niches. The maelstrom set and this change push it even further toward being useful for cleaving multiple targets. Bow will likely retake its spot as backbar single target, and now two hander is kinda its own playstyle it seems
Flame staff shouldve been given the increased DoT bonus that lightning staff got and lightning staff shouldve gotten a DIRECT damage bonus instead because the most DoT heavy classes are dks and nbs who use flame/poison and get buffs for those types of damage now we are forced to use lightning staff if we want to increase our mag DoT damage and not use melee weapons.....it sucks...i hate that. As a DK main this just sucks. Yes i know other classes have access to DoT damage and abilities but cmon almost every skill the DK has is DoT. Why would you take the flamestaff from us like that? Just....why...
That's exactly what I said when I first saw these changes. I face palmed super hard. Despite the heavy attack passive nerf, lightning staff is ridiculously strong with those buffs it's getting. Which is fine. But it's doing exactly what they're trying to fix. It's pigeon holing classes such as dk and nb into using a weapon that doesn't benefit them at all beyond a passive. It's not fire, so my fire passive doesn't apply to it. But in order to get the most out of my DoTs, I am forced to run it... Well done ZoS. You literally made the issue worse by trying to fix it...
I don't see new ancient knowledge as a good change. It's taking an already focused specification and pigeon holing it even more. If you want to get the highest of high damage with flame staff you need to min max into status effects. This in turn limits what sets, classes, and skills you can run with flame staff optimally, inadvertently shrinking build diversity. Opposite of what the goal is. It's also contrary to the lightning staff 12% dot and channeled change as it will be buffing more than what live does now. Builds will be more standardized or monophonic if a change like or similar to this is finalized.
quite frankly, after this change, if I had to choose between lightning and fire, I always just go with lightning. It's just better despite fire creating more damage. I don't mind the slow decrease in stats during PvE but a lightning staff is easier to handle. My back up hand is a restoration staff...I did think about having the fire staff to use for back up but after trying it out several times...especially when I enter public dungeons (I do solo), I just get so annoyed with the fire staff most of the time and just switch to restoration. The new lightning staff mods aren't great but meh.
For PvE anything works. For PvP this change is questionable at best. More people use dual wield already. With this change, destro stuff will get even less usable. A dot? Boohoo, a simple cleanse will remove it. However, destro lost its % penetration and increase of single target damage which was crucial to certain builds in PvP. With lightning staff nerf, I suppose only ice staff will be used in PvP and only for flat passives for armour bonus. As always, ZOS do not really care about PvP balance. Not like PvP community is surprised after all these years, but it just confirms that each patch iteration is not going to fix anything in the PvP aspect. Not returning for this patch for sure.
Its really dumb that magicka characters are pigeonholed into melee weapons in PVP. This update will be a final nail to the coffin for build diversity and I say this as someone who exclusively plays stam/melee, more as a personal style preferance, that is meta by coincidence.
