It's the classic example of "Buy the coin ,not the holder"

Hi, thank you for watching. I definitely agree. Both of these were bought raw and I submitted to NGC. Again, great teaching moment, and yes, its about the coin not the holder. Bit, so many look at the grading services opinion. The one with better eye appeal is priced higher in my daughter's shop.
Thanks again, hope you watch and comment on other videos...

@@johnz-man4754hope the lesser eye appeal one is discounted if the other is marked at higher price that is one part of coin dealers thing I can’t stand they mark a coin up higher just because it looks the grade and if done correctly it’s fine it’s when dealers start the semi PL talk and ask more for a coins number grade because of its surface conditions but don’t mark down the same coin graded same with poor surfaces

Unattractive toning doesn’t affect grade. Back in the 1980s, ANACS used to give each coin three separate grades: for strike, luster and surface appearance. Might not be a bad idea to return to that but ultimately the buyer has to decide what a coin is worth to him.

I agree to a degree. Unfortunately the "human" factor plays a part in grading. On paper, no. But graders reward eye appeal and over look defects based on rarity. When my daughter was a grader at NGC, she said many graders played favorites on coins.
Oh well, with these two, my daughter priced them differently in her shop.
      Thank you for your comment...

@@rvnmedic1968, yes she does. She was a grader for NGC at 19 years old, worked for Heritage Auction's in Dallas. Told me some crazy stories and pics of some serious coins she dealt with. New ones almost every day...

I would have to see the coin in hand. Toning on peace dollars is VERY different than on Morgans. That dark mottled toning is WAY more common on Peace dollars. If the LUSTER is there and the coin isn't beat up... the grade could very well be accurate.
Just because you don't find mottled toned coins eye appealing, especially when comparing side-by-side to a bright white coin of the same grade, does NOT mean that the grades are not the same or may be inaccurate.
I say this without having seen the coins in hand, but based on what I could see, it looks like 58 could very well be accurate. I love those Peace dollars! V for VICTORY! When people hold up their index and pointer finger in a V shape (✌) and say "Peace"... that is where it came from... "V for VICTORY!" Victory WAS peace. It's been co-opted by people who understand its origin. Peace dollars are a great reminder.

Wow, thank you for an AWESOME comment. I definitely agree. Peace dollars are different and in hand is important. We believe that the "ugly " one is AU-58, we think the one with better eye appeal is slightly better. We base it on the surfaces and rub(ever so slight). Also, the one with eye appeal has a small scratch and they could have net graded it.
Anyway, thank you for your time and efforts to understand this situation...

Thank you for watching. Not exactly but I get it. One is toned(ugly) and the other is not. Both are tougher coins by date, so still nice.
      Appreciate your time and opinion...

As long as the dirty one isn't scratched up under the toning it's ok to be au58. The other ones just the best of the best of the au 58 I guess. Send the nice one to cacg maybe it will ms61!!

Thank you for an opinion. I definitely understand where your coming from. Unfortunately because we buy raw coins at a very fair price, sending to another service will add $40-$50 plus shipping to its cost. NGC is close enough where I drive to, so no shipping, plus I submit 20-40 or more coins each time. So sending it to CACG is not a economic option.
It is what it is. Thank you again...

I do think all the services do that. While the darker coin seems kinda ugly-ish to me the spot on the back was worse than the weirdness on the front but hard to say not seeing in hand.

Thank you, always appreciate others opinions. Alexandrea and I checked them both out, the one with less eye appeal is definitely a lower grade. Oh well, its the game, unfortunately this hurts the hobby and future collectors. They are more worried about holders with coin bag fragments and signed labels then getting the grade right.
      Thank you...

Thank you for watching my video. It's definitely ugly toning. But in hand, they both are different as far as condition. I think the ugly one is AU-58 but the nicer looking one is actually better. Unfortunately, the nicer looking one has a small scratch and my daughter believes they net graded it.
Either way, they are both for sale in her shop and both are priced different...
