fr. there are wayyyy more commercially pushed Hollywood films that deserve the kind of cynicism that this film is getting. It's just Fun with a glittering glossy capital F, done with affection and gusto
One of the more positive reviews I've seen. Not sure what to think as there are those who claim it's just one giant nostalgia-pudding. Maybe I should go see for myself? Nah, that would be way too radical.
TheHitherto - The movie is nothing but references at every corner and tries to bank off your nostalgia (in which, many are letting happen to them, including Mark himself to my disappointment. Look what he spends the *majority* of his review talking about lol). I am no book reader but those fans are pissed for a reason and I am very sure the book is miles better than this style over substance movie.
Mark is someone i admire very much. He's someone who understands what the best cinema can do, or should do. He is a fountain of knowledge, specifically when it comes to the genre of Horror...he's the guy you wanna listen to, also it helps that Mark has a PHD in Horror fiction. He is incredibly intelligent, very genuine, and from what I've heard from people who have met him, he is a very nice person, and wants to engage with young people as well.
A bit late but... please read the book. As 42 year old (as of January 2021) gamer/geek, this is the best suggestion I can make. If you liked the film...
" ...this was my Tron" :O WOW Tron is a classic ( Clunky... but still a classic). Great review, have seen it and u have to be a rock not to come out of this movie with a big stupid grin on your face. Spielberg back to his best.... go see it!!! :)
Really wonderful and highly ebjoyable movie! This is the Spielberg that I've missed since the 90's. Sure, he has made some really good (more serious) movies... but I'm a bigger fan of his blockbuster stuff! Loved it!
This was a good review. The key word for me was fun. That is what my son & I had when we watched it. I think that was the intent though. I'm in the process of listening to the audio book & noticed that the omission of how in-depth the OASIS plays into society & the extensive explanation of particular moments was a big difference. It didn't take away how much I enjoyed it. No mentions that this script was crafted by 2 people, one of them the author of the book. There was probably a meeting between them of what direction to take to make this story filmable without alienating core fans of the book, but to appeal to general movie audience.
I watched this in a packed theatre of all ages and enjoyed it thoroughly as did the young kids next to me. They were scared, laughing and were totally engrossed by it. It reminded me of watching such films as a youngster and getting that feeling of pure enjoyment. Just enjoy it for the fun film it is and my one word review is "Enchanting"
Did not enjoy having read the book. Stripped 80’s references to make it appeal to a younger audience. Took away the world building. Made sorento into a casual “dude” no longer the cold calculating ceo Made Daito, Shoto and og into background characters Took away the magic of art3mis appearance ( which was revealed at the end of the book) Gave wade waaaayyyy to much money at the start Forgot he was a high school student Made the movie a flat, 2d, shallow action flick Not loyal to book No depth to the puzzles, that seem kinda random and not explained properly No gritty reality check No wade locking him self away or shady business acts No tragedy to events, solutions quick simple, no real danger But ..... Good character design Nice mini refs to some video games Good cgi and sets Creative fights and action Good for the casual HORRIBLE IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK.
Totally agree. The movie lacks the aspects that made the book so good. (Basically every movie adaptation ever tho) And i didn't remever I-R0K being a massive antagonist.
Overwatch I guess Needed to be a 2 part movie if it was gonna fit everything in it.A lot of things were rushed and poignant moments weren't there when they perhaps should of been, but I can look past it because it was so fun and the positives heavily outweighed the negatives.
I loved RPO too Mark! Like you, I was smiling with glee with this latest Spielberg joint when the credits started to roll. RPO was classico Spielberg blockbuster entertainment - a pure sci-fantasy action adventure (with heart) that any film buff, hardcore gamer, music lover, Baby Boomer, (my Gen X folks like "Halliday"), Millennial, and Gen Z can find something to enjoy thematically, and 'member berries reference wise... I was surprised how much I dug the Oasis and the main casts cgi avatars in said Oasis as much as I did, I gave a crap about the High 5 Clan and their quest. - THAT one particular sequence was fantastic! - Random: "Anal nathrach, orth bhais's bethad, do chel denmha!" - Merlin's Charm of Making (Excalibur) the Glaive weapon (from Krull), and early '80s style Gundam were the references I really dug.
I'm a 54 year old gamer, I went with my son 30, and. My grandson, we saw the 3d version, adsolutly loved it, your going to need to watch it a few times to see all the gadgets in there, amazing .
Its a stunning achievement on it own that they've managed to turn out a film that actually works. I remember hearing that they were making this a couple of years ago, and just wondered how the hell could anyone pull it off.
What makes this film great is it’s rewatchability factor - it’s very well made with a decent story and tons of pop culture references and stunning visuals - surprise hit for me!!
Honestly the most surprising thing I ever heard around this film was "the film was bad and the book was amazing." No. Ready player one film- great film, has problems, but good. Ready player one book- ITS #%@&!$% TERRIBLE! The book is written in three different ways- 1. Bad story description. "They be calling themselves the sixors, nowdays, most guntors refer to them as the 'suxors' because they suck" 2.boring wikipedia article "I studied monty python, and not just holy grail either- every one of their movies, albums and books, and every episode of the original bbc series, what about the simpsons, I knew more about springfeild than I did about my own city!" 3. 17 year old rants about random stuff "That story you've heard, about how we were all created by some super powerful dude named god who just lived up in the sky, total bull!£, god is just a story that people have been telling each other for thousands of years, like santa claus or the easter bunny- also there is no santa claus or the easter bunny, also bull!£, sorry kid- deal with Wade is this awkward, misogynistic, troll, and the only thing you seem to get out of it is pride for that kind of person. Not once does wade mention the nature of the hunt, or who halliday was, or anything, he wins because he- honest to god- recites war games line by line. And after all this halliday shows up and he is like "kid, maybe dont play video games as much as I did, the real world is pretty important too or something" Ernest, dont pretend thats the theme of the book. Thats not the theme of the book.
Not surprised to read the negative reviews from book readers below so... I loved the movie. I listened to the book in 3 days last week so the story was still very fresh. There are changes from the book I don't like. They are mentioned below but overall I went with it. Adapting Ready Player One the book is impossible. Ernest Cline created such a level of detail that you would need a 4 or 5 hour film at least. But for the 140 mins we get, Spielberg is having so much fun. And so was I.
The book has always been special to me and the screenwriters have done a good job transplanting what is a reference heavy and geek masterpiece to the silver screen. It's not perfect but Spielberg has done a great job. I'd have liked to have seen more of the dystopian world (2045) and the last acts are rushed along at such a pace that I'd have rather sat through a longer film. It succeeded in making me feel like I was watching flight of the navigator and BTTF all over again. The golden age of only two genders and 8 bit.
Enjoyed the review but I'm happy i saw the film first. The Shining is a MASSIVE spoiler. Not in the book and one of my fav sequences of the film - primarily because it was so unexpected.
Mark has really nailed this review. Absolutely terrific movie. A 2hr 20 min movie that felt much shorter as you get so engrossed in it. Really worth watching.
I loved the book and really enjoyed the film. Not without flaws (read things from the book I'd like to have seen) but for a family friendly, fun adventure I thought it nailed it.
I'm honestly surprised because as someone who absolutely loves the book to bits, I was unsure about this film from all the promotional material - it just looked kinda unpromising and clunky. But I might actually give this film a look now since people seem to be genuinely enjoying it 🤔❤️
I too adored the book ... and I’ve just got back from watching the film. It’s good. It’s not the book, it never could be, but the film tells the story in an abbreviated, simplified and coherent way. It achieved all a film of Ready Player One ever could ... it captured the book’s soul and played it out in a fun, engaging and faithful way.
Just watched Ready Player One for the n't time. I love this movie. But all the reviews are always a bit meh. This one, I love. His enthusiasm, his joy. I felt it. Thank you. I know this is an old review, but I don't care. I just wanted to share my RPO feelings with someone who also love the movie. Lots of hugs ❤
Dear Mr kermode, I love movies and I love computer games. One thing a game like 'Dead Space 1, 2 & 3' gives me is PURE scifi interactive shock horror! Alien is one of my favorite scifi horror movies, but the game 'Dead Space' makes me jump harder and scream louder! Being a scifi fan you should at least consider a weekend bash of 'Dead Space' on the ps3. Or at least watch some review videos. If you do decide to play remember lights off, headphones on. All the best.
It was a fun movie, but honestly i think spielberg could do better for movie, i dont wanna see him be a michael bay and start making action movies, where he couldve been given the script for the shape of water to direct, wouldve been more of a movie i'd expect for him to direct.
SPOILERS SPOILERS Did anyone else think the aunt being blown up was so out of place. The bad guy kills her and the kids act like it's nothing. It's only brought up again once. To compere when the brother died in big hero six it's treated as a turning point. But here you could delete the aunts death and it make no difference.
The movie was absolutely brilliant. From start to finish. It is now placed in my top 10 movies of all time. And being a movie buff with over 2000 blu rays and nearly 100 4Ks, it's not easy to land in the top ten anymore. I can not wait for the 4K release. I will be buying ALL editions, Absolutely LOVED the movie. Have never been a book person and this is literally the ONLY movie that has made me want to buy the book.
Very mixed on the film itself but ons thing I’m definitely not mixed on is it’s use of 3D. Some of the visuals are absolutely spectacular but this is one of the very few films (along with Avatar and the original How To Train Your Dragon that where use of 3D actively enhances and complements the film. I’m that weirdo that actually likes 3D but believe you me I’ve seen a lot of mediocre to bad 3D presentations over the last 10 years. It’s rare to see it used well let alone THIS well (perticulerly at a time when the modern form of 3D is on its way out.) I’m seriously considering seeing the film again in the cinema just for the 3D
The colour scheme on the posters actually put me off for the longest time. But then Mark, plus the folks at film 2018 have rarely steered me wrong so I took a gamble. I was completely absorbed by it. Well worry getting an IMAX ticket
Really enjoyed this film, however ( I’m not being negative in any way here) but folks read the book as it gives an even greater kaleidoscope of 80’s music ,films and early video games. The ending of the book is far more funnier than the film and I’m not sure as to why the didn’t use that ending. But I will probably go and see it again as you are bombarded with all sorts of ......everything.
Ah well, it's one of those movies where I liked the story and the world more than I liked the characters (who were not bad but just serviceable), I was still entertained.
If you have a VR headset today and go online to social spaces, there are Darth Vaders, Marty Mcflys, Kemits, pop culture characters are being mashed up and used as avatars already. There is the hint of some prophetic about this film. Anything is an improvement on Crystal Skull....
6/10 for me. I think that there wasn’t enough emphasis on the fact that Wade plays video games all the time, and has mastered all of those that Halliday loved. To me, it was just disappointing. I read the book recently, and while I didn’t think it could be topped, they should’ve included more from the book.
It’s a Spielberg blockbuster through and through. Massive fun, exciting action and references galore for moviegoers to enjoy. Of course, as a Spielberg blockbuster, it’s also so saccharin that it hurts your teeth, it’s dumbed down to the point of pure stupidity and it’s had all of the real darkness of the book removed - and replaced with silly one-liners from one of the villains. I enjoyed this movie to a point, as an entity in itself, but even as a child of the 80s, a gamer and a lover of stuff like The Shining and Iron Giant, I really didn’t feel that I was in it’s demographic. One thing that disappointed the most was that it absolutely fails to deliver the emotions of the relationships. H is all but ignored, Wade and Samantha meet pretty much straight away, and there is a whole act of Wade meeting Morrow just removed wholesale. It’s ok as a movie in of itself, but as an adaptation of the book, it fails on every level. Although, maybe it’s unfair to say it fails, as they clearly weren’t trying to adapt the book. It’s a complete re-write.
It is a brilliant film. This film will be one of Spielberg's best and...perhaps....may be a new Star Wars. I had the same hit I got from watching Star Wars as a kid in about 1983 when it was screened on the BBC. No exaggeration, the best film i've seen at the cinema.
The film maybe long in parts, however the film’s well acted, well directed, cultural, stylish & is A well crafted sci-fi film. (79%) (4/5 stars) (positive)
British critics seem to like the film more than American ones. They loved it on Film 2018 so I think I'll go by the Brits. I think some US critics are too toffee nosed nowadays and tend to dismiss Spielberg.
Most great books with great stories work at book level and patience. A film cannot afford that kind of time the book has, it has to play to its strengths and not follow the book to the letter.
One of the most all round entertaining films I’ve watched in a while. Most negativity seems to come from people who have read the book before hand. But if you haven’t read the book then it is a very good film .
Visual Nerdgasm But a clunky book adaptation. Too many characters, Finale, random red head who works for IOI, two Japanese ninjas that are wafer thin, Simon Peggs character the twist about him means nothing, Skull man is great wish they cut out other stuff so we could've had more of him. There's allot of characters telling us things rather then just showing them, the opening and end monologue are particularly egregious. The worst is when Artemis looks directly at the camera and explains her backstory, I can't even remember what she said other then homeless :( But an outstanding film overall 8/10
Kermode loved it? Wow, I'd been really down on it pre-release considering the abomination that is the source material but I'm going to have to check it out now.
It is a smirk inducing sandbox of pop culture references but lacks the real heart & depth usually synonymous with Spielberg movies. I struggled to get onboard with the aesthetic of the Oasis and avatars residing inside. Some fun moments but this is a rare occasion when I’d say you’re better off reading the book. 2/5
Just back from this movie. I actually went to see Isle of Dogs but got the time slightly wrong and would have had to wait a bit so went to see Ready Player One instead. Way too many pop culture references for me a few are ok but there must have been one ever two minutes. It all got a little grating. Mind you the two guys beside me were nearly jumping out of their seats with ever reference they got so each to there own i guess. For me I probably should have had a cup of coffee or something, waited and gone to see Isle of Dogs.
haven't watched the film yet. Having read the book, and enjoyed it [...insert backlash here] this film could have been one hell of a mess. Could easily have seen Mark hate this film even if i had liked it, interesting that Mark likes the film considering some of the reviews out there
Personally went to go see this in moving chairs and in 3D and for the most part it was enjoyable, but looking back at it , the movie itself had sooo many plot holes and well...was kind of bad, I think what made me enjoy is was the 3D/chairs and not the actual film itself I’d give a 6/10
I was surprised with how much fun this film was.
I know I'm kind of randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to watch new movies online?
@Antonio Dominik I use Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Trey Magnus Yea, been using flixzone for since march myself :D
@Trey Magnus thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) Appreciate it !!
@Antonio Dominik glad I could help xD
I love Mark! I love his enthusiasm! Watching his reviews for so many years. My trustworthy constant. Cant wait to see this movie now!
Some people are taking this film a little too seriously. It's a really fun film. Spielberg knows how to make a damn fun action movie
fr. there are wayyyy more commercially pushed Hollywood films that deserve the kind of cynicism that this film is getting. It's just Fun with a glittering glossy capital F, done with affection and gusto
One of the more positive reviews I've seen. Not sure what to think as there are those who claim it's just one giant nostalgia-pudding. Maybe I should go see for myself? Nah, that would be way too radical.
TheHitherto Nostalgia pudding? Sounds wonderful. :)
I mean, the book was one giant nostaliga pudding, but pudding can be tasty.
The nostalgia is just a bonus, main plot is its own original thing. The references/easter eggs make no impact on the actual story.
Read the book first.
50 year old Gamer and Movie geek, just back from the cinema and had a hoot and a holler :)
Stephen Kelly 41yr old and wow wasn't that a treat for us !
Yeah it was awesome
Loved it!
Well said Mr Kermode, well said...

Completely agree Mark, I was doubtful from the trailer but I’m so glad I saw the film, uplifting and so much fun
I liked it walking out of it. Took a few days to process, but I think I love it. Only Spielberg makes me feel this way.
Did not enjoy having read the book.
Stripped 80’s references to make it appeal to a younger audience.
Took away the world building.
Made sorento into a casual “dude” no longer the cold calculating ceo
Made Daito, Shoto and og into background characters
Took away the magic of art3mis appearance ( which was revealed at the end of the book)
Gave wade waaaayyyy to much money at the start
Forgot he was a high school student
Made the movie a flat, 2d, shallow action flick
Not loyal to book
No depth to the puzzles, that seem kinda random and not explained properly
No gritty reality check
No wade locking him self away or shady business acts
No tragedy to events, solutions quick simple, no real danger
But .....
Good character design
Nice mini refs to some video games
Good cgi and sets
Creative fights and action
Good for the casual
HORRIBLE IF YOU HAVE READ THE BOOK.
Overwatch I guess I pretty much agree with most of that
It must be awful having a book ruin a film for you.
Totally agree. The movie lacks the aspects that made the book so good. (Basically every movie adaptation ever tho)
And i didn't remever I-R0K being a massive antagonist.
Overwatch I guess
But it had Tracer in it
Surely that makes up for all the problems XD
Overwatch I guess Needed to be a 2 part movie if it was gonna fit everything in it.A lot of things were rushed and poignant moments weren't there when they perhaps should of been, but I can look past it because it was so fun and the positives heavily outweighed the negatives.

Saw it yesterday. I recognised they dystopian city scenes of despair where people lived in cramped filth. They went and filmed in Birmingham.
What does the reference to the valley forge mean ?
I'm a 54 year old gamer, I went with my son 30, and. My grandson, we saw the 3d version, adsolutly loved it, your going to need to watch it a few times to see all the gadgets in there, amazing .

Having read the book I was nervous but the changes they made made sense and I loved the movie.
Ready Player One has the same villain as the LEGO-movie. As such, I am deeply disappointed Will Farrell did not reprise the role.
I didn't think I was gonna watch it because other movie critics hated it but Mark has convinced me tbh..I'm totally hooked now.
Bruce Wayne I always have to choose because I can't see every single film in the cinema, don't have the money for it ^^
Honestly the most surprising thing I ever heard around this film was "the film was bad and the book was amazing." No.
Ready player one film- great film, has problems, but good.
Ready player one book- ITS #%@&!$% TERRIBLE!
The book is written in three different ways-
1. Bad story description.

3. 17 year old rants about random stuff
"That story you've heard, about how we were all created by some super powerful dude named god who just lived up in the sky, total bull!£, god is just a story that people have been telling each other for thousands of years, like santa claus or the easter bunny- also there is no santa claus or the easter bunny, also bull!£, sorry kid- deal with

Just watched this last night - and - like Mark - was surprised how much I enjoyed it and made an emotional connection. God, Spielberg - you're good !
I'M A BIG FAN OF THE READY PLAYER TWO BOOK FROM ROBLOX!
They had me at the Monty Python Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, reference
Whoa, did not expect this response from Kermode haha
Enjoyed the review but I'm happy i saw the film first. The Shining is a MASSIVE spoiler. Not in the book and one of my fav sequences of the film - primarily because it was so unexpected.
Having read the book I found the film really jarring, too much has been changed.
Will need to see it again.
grown up watching this director since boxing day 1975 seeing Jaws and can't wait to see Ready Player One.
few years later Mark Zuckerberg tend to do something like this...
Mark has really nailed this review. Absolutely terrific movie. A 2hr 20 min movie that felt much shorter as you get so engrossed in it. Really worth watching.
Soooooooo many references
why are these vidoes at 480p? what year is it again?
It is radio. With a picture. Listen to the words.
I loved the book and really enjoyed the film. Not without flaws (read things from the book I'd like to have seen) but for a family friendly, fun adventure I thought it nailed it.
Why are these cameras so out of focus? They’re static and neither Mark nor Simon are moving (barring Mark’s hands!)
This is a radio show - the technicians don't know how to do TV
It really doesn’t matter.
ghostly606 except it’s the BBC; there must be someone there who knows how to focus a camera.
I'm honestly surprised because as someone who absolutely loves the book to bits, I was unsure about this film from all the promotional material - it just looked kinda unpromising and clunky. But I might actually give this film a look now since people seem to be genuinely enjoying it 🤔❤️
Lara Anderson You've got nothing to lose by watching it, not like it's gonna be exruciating pain. Just watch it.
It is fantastic and there are so many hidden messages. It is a must see.
Think you need to watch it as itself, a separate entity rather than wanting the film of the book
It's sad you would only consider seeing something after other people say they like it. Judge things for yourself.
Loved it. Halliday was the best cast character I've seen since Red in Shawshank.
Thank you Mark, you’re the best ❤️🌹
To those who doubted this film: ALWAYS BET ON SPIELBERG.
hmmm... haven't you seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
Bfg
he's been making dull and bad movies for many years now. Just check imdb. 2005 was his last good year.
This is his best classico style Spielberg blockbuster sci-fantasy adventure film since Jurassic Park for me.
Ersatz Person the book the film was based on had the potential for cinematic GOLD , Spielberg held back
Just watched Ready Player One for the n't time. I love this movie. But all the reviews are always a bit meh. This one, I love. His enthusiasm, his joy. I felt it. Thank you. I know this is an old review, but I don't care. I just wanted to share my RPO feelings with someone who also love the movie. Lots of hugs ❤
What was the 'Shining' reference??
bonnie43uk Go see the film, don't be spoiled by pre-knowledge of a great sequence from The 'Berg.
kenchun24 can't afford I my friend, might have to wait a couple of years until it comes on the telly.
Dear Mr kermode, I love movies and I love computer games. One thing a game like 'Dead Space 1, 2 & 3' gives me is PURE scifi interactive shock horror! Well done for getting on trending
that's it - i'm gonna see this film now.
This guy is a brilliant film critic! bang on with what he says and one of the best..excellent film 9.5/10 for everyone young or old it's a must
Wonder how those goggles would feel while doing fpv freestyle
It was a fun movie, but honestly i think spielberg could do better for movie, i dont wanna see him be a michael bay and start making action movies, where he couldve been given the script for the shape of water to direct, wouldve been more of a movie i'd expect for him to direct.
Stewart Lee has let himself go.
C M Large stolen
@Chris Large. No he hasn't. Stewart Lee is still an unfunny lefty spunk trumpet.
SPOILERS SPOILERS
Did anyone else think the aunt being blown up was so out of place.
And being a movie buff with over 2000 blu rays and nearly 100 4Ks,
it's not easy to land in the top ten anymore.
I can not wait for the 4K release.
I will be buying ALL editions,
Absolutely LOVED the movie.
Have never been a book person and this is literally the ONLY movie that has made me want to buy the book.
Follow that instinct and buy the book, bro. It's the ultimate trip.
if this is in your top 10 what are the other 9
You should read some books pal
Wow really? Of all time?
did u watch it in 3d?
my heart skipped a beat when mark said "i loved it"
Very mixed on the film itself but ons thing I’m definitely not mixed on is it’s use of 3D.
Way better than i was expecting , seems reviewers get it wrong from time to time ( not Mr Kermode of course).
The film started off good but lost its spark towards the end. I think it had potential but the story wasn’t executed very well.
Is it better to see this one in 2D or 3D ??
I don't normally do 3D.
But given the subject matter - where he goes into VR for most of the movie .. it makes sense to do 3D on this one.
want to see it again too!
5:53 YOU TELL HIM, MAYO!
Dagnabbit!
Ah well, it's one of those movies where I liked the story and the world more than I liked the characters (who were not bad but just serviceable), I was still entertained.
As a gamer it was like Where's Wally, you know "oh, a starcraft avatar", etc. I enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this, silly fun but entertaining and in imax 3d at Leicester Square it really wowed
Book readers of RPO will fell disappointed with the form by how all the magical parts were taken away and replaced with a quick fix
Charlie and the Chocolate factory for the 21st century. Worked for me.
I think some US critics are too toffee nosed nowadays and tend to dismiss Spielberg.
looks like kino is back on the menu boys
I have not seen it. Take me
Most great books with great stories work at book level and patience. A film cannot afford that kind of time the book has, it has to play to its strengths and not follow the book to the letter.
Aw maan! Now i am so pumped to watch this !
Hmmmm. I was sitting on the fence on this one. Other reviews not so positive. But might go and watch now.
i went expecting nothing, left amazed.
I think this movie is still enjoyable even if you don't understand most of the reference.
Wow kemode actually liked it... Is he feeling ok? Normally not that sort of film he would praise
Finaly a critic that realy loved this film
Odd he mentioned he doesn't like Avatar now - he gave it a fairly positive review originally?
The most enjoyable film I've seen this year, Spielberg magic as I remember it in the 80/90s
this movie was a fu%$in RIOT!! Loved it! Spielberg STILL at the top of his fu%$in game
Great movie, saw it in IMAX 3D last night, definitely recommend it. Seeing the infinity war trailer in 3D was good as well.
One of the most all round entertaining films I’ve watched in a while.
Most negativity seems to come from people who have read the book before hand. But if you haven’t read the book then it is a very good film .
Im dissapointed they didn't include Aech backstory which i thought was quite emotional so to me the character felt flat without it.
Visual Nerdgasm
But a clunky book adaptation.
The worst is when Artemis looks directly at the camera and explains her backstory, I can't even remember what she said other then homeless :(
But an outstanding film overall 8/10
It's not a masterpiece or anything, I thought The Post and Bridge of Spies were better but it's still a fun film and visually astonishing
Very surprised at how much kermode liked this
Kermode loved it? Wow, I'd been really down on it pre-release considering the abomination that is the source material but I'm going to have to check it out now.
Spielberg has a knack for turning unpleasant and uncinematic books into really good blockbusters
Terrific book!
Could easily have seen Mark hate this film even if i had liked it, interesting that Mark likes the film considering some of the reviews out there
Really liked the book so pleased to hear the film has worked out.
It really didn't. Loved the book also, the film was a huge let down for me
Personally went to go see this in moving chairs and in 3D and for the most part it was enjoyable, but looking back at it , the movie itself had sooo many plot holes and well...was kind of bad, I think what made me enjoy is was the 3D/chairs and not the actual film itself I’d give a 6/10
Nostalgia overload
So is Steven Spielberg still blackmailing Mark about not "liking A.I. enough" ? ;)
