Great video! I watched just to see if the little taco truck is still there on the molding behind the instrument cluster and it is! You can see it at 2:19 to the left of the middle and to the right is KMX indicating the instrument panel molding was made at a facility in Mexico.
I literally bought a 2016 tacoma with 16,000 miles…. And the whole bottom of the dash glass was scratched 🤣 I have NO idea how this happens I would have figured the old owner for some reason put his keys on the glass when he wasn’t using it (as the truck was almost 6 years old and only 20k miles) but you made a great point about the chemicals.. great video and when I do this I will definitely use only alcohol whipes and hopefully that’s not too strong to make this happen lol !!
Tacoma's are known for soft plastic in the dash. Use a screen protector. not only do they prevent scratches, but they hide them as well. Some even add a HD effect which enhances the look over stock
Had dealer change mine and it didn`t last a month before it cracked. Now it`s out of warranty now. Ordered a new one. If you look at where it cracks you will see a bow out from the 3 tabs. The lens is preloaded straight from the factory and when sun heats it up it causes it to crack. I got a lighter heated the plastic edge up to relax the plastic. The bow relaxed is gone now. If you have scratches install a screensaver it makes them disappear. Khloe on UA-cam got a video on it
Thanks for this.. I removed my front passenger seat and built a platform there for a Dometic fridge. Its just me and my dog and I can't count on more than one hand that I've had a person in the passenger seat so we gutted all of the seats for overlanding purposes. After disconnecting the front seat belt and airbag sensors, I have permanent warnings in the dash about these things being disconnected. The seat belt warning is distracting because it constantly blinks. I tried using a Carista OBD2 to clear the airbag warning, but it immediately comes back. Far as I'm aware, there is no aftermarket harness to trick these sensors into thinking they are connected. Toyota wouldn't help, obviously. What I'm going to do is, put black stickers over the seat belt and airbag warning lights so I don't have to look at them and watching this video, it looks rather easy to remove/re-add.
You should definitely get a protective film now man, watxh kloe kuo put it on her dash, looks amazing and gets rid of all the scratches. Thanks for the video, i was hoping there was a way to do this so i can clean some dust trapped inside my dash
Great instructions and simple. My 2017 Tacoma is hella clean, and I’ve gone as far as switching to leather interior recently, but inside of my cluster is full of dust. Is there anyway to take the plastic cover off to clean out the dust?
Yes, around minute 4 when the cluster is separated from the front cover that is the perfect time to clean it out before reinstalling it. I hope that helps.
How is it when you film you look like your sitting like normal in driver seat in the left side of the car, when you start to install the impunity back in you are reversed and now n the passenger side and everything is transverse? Is it camera trickery?
Must be a common issue, now that I've seen a few videos on this. I thought maybe the previous owner of my 2016, might have neglected it. But apparently not the case.
You didn't show disconnecting the wiring from the back ? How hard is it to remove the white harness holder without breaking the prongs off and do the wires have clips on them ? Thank You !
Sorry there wasn’t enough slack on the wiring harness to turn it around. But it is very easy. You can use some plastic trim remover tools to help you pop the clicks out. Does not take too much force.
Hey man - do you know what the name is of that white clip you used a panel popper for? Mine unfortunately snapped while doing the swap. I need to buy a new one but can't find it online.
@@duran944 you probably can’t get the exact clip because it probably is sold with the wire harness but if you go to eBay and type it wire harness clips you can get something similar or something that will definitely get the job done. Hope this helps.
I purchased it from eBay. I show the part number in the video, just search there. If you don’t find it then you would have to get it from the Toyota dealership.
@@Mr_Fix_It I did take the part number and looked all over Ebay with no success ? I also contacted Toyota and they only have a single glass replacement with no bezels attached? I wanted the one like you have with the bezels attached as it will be difficult to install just the glass with out getting finger marks and dust on the temperamental glass? Thank You for getting back to me and if you have any ideas for getting one for a 2023 Tacoma Pro please let me know ? EJ
Is it possible to get a replacement for just the clear plastic that covers it? My truck is not old at all... Practically brand new, but I recently noticed a crack in it, and some pretty bad scratches. I'd love to get just the plastic/plexiglass replaced so it doesn't looks so shitty.
@@Mr_Fix_It Oh ok I never knew that can be done with phone, I tried doing everything as you described in your video wasnt too bad but getting that piece back on left side that goes around the piece you replaced was a trick, what I am intending to do is to try buff out my plastic piece with product called "Novus" had much success in using the stuff through the years on all sorts of plastics if it doesnt take out the fine scratches in it I will just replace it out I can not believe how many scratches that I had recently gotten on mine all I did was used bit of water on some paper towels then after wards couldnt believe the scratches it left behind I wasnt even rubbing hard with the towels either so where can I find that same piece you bought on ebay? @@BurtBowers Yes the plastics on cars today are extremely cheap. Any dirty will scratch it when you wipe it down. I use a foam glass cleaner with a microfiber towel. But if yours is just scratched a good polish and buff should do the trick. Yes I bought mine from ebay for $50 with tax and shipping. The seller was Toyota dealership in Arizona. Good luck!
You’d have to put a scanner on and see what the code is, it could just be a coincidence. You can go to a Autozone and they can read the code for you for free if you do not have a car scanner.
where do I purchase this item ? Please let me know, I can't find it anywhere ? The only one I find is the thin peice of glass that looks like it glue on
I don’t understand how Toyota delivers new Toyota Tacomas with cluster cover that looks like it is 20 years old. Maybe someone at the dealership swapped mine out for their old one.
Toyota dealership...get ready to dip in ya savings with yota on it..$426 for the cluster panel....mite wanna leave it alone and just armor all the scratchs....ain't worth it..their plastic is brittle anyways
