People hear mistakes when he doesn't hit all the notes, but, as a musician, it's pure ecstasy hearing raw vocals even if it's a struggling voice, the emotion and vigor that you hear is what it's about. Not the superficial epitome of perfection that people always wanna see.

Since all you guys are talking about how Patrick didn't hit some notes, and got tired, I actually researched. Patrick once said in a interview that it's hard to go with the set list all the time because he needs to go at certain paces, and set up the order of the songs correctly. Patrick doesn't always have a powerful voice. (Jk ya he does but he needs to pace him self) So for all of you saying he sucked, let's see you try and hit all of those notes perfectly and breathe perfectly fine and have enough energy to sing a bunch of songs.
i wish people would stop complaining about how patrick sings in this performance. sure, he missed a couple of notes but do you realise how hard this song would be to sing live? theres all the high notes and overlaps and thatd be really hard. when artists record their songs, they have as many tries as they need to get it perfect, they dont have to worry about moving around, being hot, or playing an instrument, and they record sections of the song bit by bit and then pick out the good tries and splice them all together. its pretty rare for artists to be able to record their whole song in one go, especially with songs like the pheonix, where one line starts before the previous one finishes, or theres a long high note that could take heaps of tries to get right. artists dont have those any of those privileges when singing live. and besides, patrick actually did pretty well after the first chorus.
Estoy completamente de acuerdo contigo, es muy fácil criticar cuando no han estado en un escenario saltando sudando y con la garganta destrozada por todo el repertorio.
Hiba Stump I'm not too sure, but maybe its because some people might see it as maybe too violent? Not the happy, innocent and all-light that some other artists are known to portray
***** I'm trying to explain the majority of where hate and dislike is coming from , it's not opinion. It's an objective statement. Especially during this concert presented on this video , his voice breaks common and runs out of breathe. Patrick himself knows he has asthma , he shouldn't try to push himself to the brink of breaking. I'll clarify myself , Patrick sounds like shit in comparison to his god-like Album version self.
- this is an EXTREMELY difficult song to sing live - he is wearing that mask which is probably making it harder for him to breathe properly - he's hot, wearing the mask, and dancing/jumping around - he's playing guitar - he honestly sounds a little sick - literally who cares he's doing fine lmao
For all of ya'll complaining about Patrick not hitting certain notes and that the "song doesn't sound as good", have you not heard Selena Gomez live!?! This is 1000x better ;)
I just wished he could work on his usage of air a little bit more since he takes breaths a lot and most of the time it's at really at bad places too. But this still sounds great considering how hard of a song like the phoenix would be to perform live
Geann Gabriel Actually I checked the setlist, this was their first song to play which was both brave....but not that smart to do. If they're going to play their first song in a concert it shouldn't be a really freaking hard song like the pheonix. It's just my opinion though :-/
Guys chill the fuck out. Patrick is one of the best singers out there. So what he missed a few notes? He's still incredible. Everything he does in his rock band with a r&b voice? Who else does that? The answer is no one (or very very very very few). Quite expecting him to be perfect. Nobody is. No one ever will be. So just enjoy the awesomeness that is FOB and quit being mean plz.
I just think he needs to find more places to take a breath. A lot of rock songs don't do that, but we can't blame him for making good music, but he should try to look for areas in the song where he can take a deep breath for the next line.
JMM Productions Well not only that, he is wearing a bacalava on his face, and he's always been kinda chubby. As a chubby guy myself I can confirm we don't have the BEST lung capacity for singing.
+ANIMEADDICT238 also, it was the opening song, which means his voice had not been fully warmed up yet. Later on in the concert his voice is absoulutely magnificent though, and it was for all of this song except the higher notes as well. I enjoy singing and I can confirm that singing is difficult without a warmup, and high notes are an absolute bitch to get out.
+Prompto Argentum He is. Maybe not you. But to all of us, he is the best. And I think that extends to the rest of the world too. Someone shouldn't have to be able to say things really faster and more pronounced to be labeled someone less than they actually are. Every artist is different, and to compare a rapper to Patrick is not logical or fair.
I love the live recordings (sometime more than the originals) because there's something beautiful about getting to hear all the deviations from the music video's "standard". Just that in the moment lead vocal chorus, makes me so happy there's so much passion in the music.
Personally, I'm amazed that he can make the song sound this good live--not everyone can do that. His voice sounds amazing! This song is pretty hard to sing NORMALLY, because there are little breath-breaks in between the notes. I applaud Patrick for the wonderful performance!
As badass as this is, making the singer use a thick black fully closed jacket and a freaking mask in a show is just cruel. You can see he was struggling to breathe D: Still, they managed to make an amazing performance. Awesome!
No one makes anyone do anything they don't want to do. Its part of the performance. When I saw them live Patrick he was doing the same thing. All singers voices get tired and strained from time to time. Its hard to do that as your everyday job.
Tiffany Webb Ok, sorry, saying "making" was a bit harsh. And, I know, I wasn't complaining or anything, I really liked the performance and it IS really hard-- which is exactly why most singers go for lighter clothing, and some still end up exhausted and covered in sweat. I know it's part of the performance, but you can still get a nice thematic design with lighter clothing, sorry if I came out as too harsh. xD
A few things: 1. This sounds so awesome live (other than a few of Patrick's vocal mistakes, but that's normal when you've got fluff stuck in your throat), and this looks like it was so much fun! 2. All your songs make me want to keep working on fulfilling my own dream. Music is really everything to me, and by the quality of your songs, I can tell it is the same for you too!
This band means so much to me, seriously when I've had no family or friends to support me, no hope at all, I've had this band. I'm seeing them live in Manchester in March for the first time, and I know it's going to be the happiest moment of my life so far. Thank you Fall Out Boy :)
To the ppl saying he ain't hittin the notes: Isn't he singing like the whole album in one performance here, or at LEAST a whole bunch of songs? This is a concert. He can't hit all crazy notes he does on the album song after song, he's fucking human. The recorded ones were sessions not an entire concert. Ya'll want him to fuck his voice up?
The improvisation on this is beautiful. Those who say he can't breathe so he's not saying the words you're partially right but this just makes a reason for people doing covers to improv on it as well
I have teared up and cried at their songs tonight for some reason. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by how much I love them and how happy they make me. I'm actually shaking atm
I took part in music because of these men and I can never seem to thank them. I wish they knew what they did for every fan but as for me. I will never explain enough that they have twisted my life in so many ways and gave me a realisation from what I can dream of to, what I can be. And I will try to pursue both.

Singing live is hard, have you ever tried playing a guitar, singing and dancing? It’s so hard!! Plus, it shows that they’re human and they’re not auto tuned, I really enjoy hearing them live, even with the struggle
I dont fucking care if patrick didnt hit some notes he's got a soul voice and he's fucking hot and perfect. and whatever haters say Patrick IS a singer or what the fuck u think he doing in that video? huh?
TO PEOPLE WHO HEARD THE VOCAL BREAKS, when a singer first gets on stage, even after he or she has warmed up, they need to build up to the high notes in their songs still. THIS is the reason why Patrick puts the songs like Thriller, I Slept With Someone.., and Sixteen Candles in the beginning of their live sets because they are middle octaves, and he can build up to Phoenix and My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark. not everyone can hit that note..."I'm on Fireeeee" in that song. FOB started out with Phoenix to represent the opening song of the album I'm guessing? and that shit has some high ass notes. If you can hit those notes with more accuracy and originality than Patrick....my bad bro this doesn't apply to you
Patrick isn't a bad singer in this. Neither is he not being able to hit some notes. He simply just needs to work on his breathing. He takes many breaths amd it makes it sound a bit off. Also, the breaths are at really bad places like when he says Phoenix. A lot of words are cut off because of him breathing during them. Besides it doesn't sound auto tuned and fake. It sound natural. Patrick is a good singer with a perfect voice and he has a great band.
I love it when it seems like he's catching his breath yet still delivers that smooth style and vibratto... I've been practicing to someday i could get my voice similar to his!!!
They were singing "wave the white flag" this whole time? I thought it was "break away, break, break away, break, huh!". Well, that explains the "surrender love" lyric then. The more you know *shrugs*
Marta Koltowska sadly I do not, I started listening to them on Spotify after My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark came out. Since then, I fell in love with the Save Rock and Roll album and listened to all their old stuff too. I plan on buying the AB/AP album eventually though :D and I know they have lyrics in there for their songs too.
sammiecutie1 I don't think they always use the same lyrics in live perfomance, I saw an vide with "immortals" and they were singing a whole different lyrics.
Amazing! At least you can tell Patrick is singing and not lip syncing like so many artists do today. I'd rather hear an artist sing live and sound tired than a perfect lip sync!
No lol, when the lights went out at the end of the song he took off the mask and put his fedora on, but it would have been cool if he had his fedora on over the mask.
Ahhhh! I can't get over Patrick's pronunciations and I love how he sounds so different when he speaks and when he sings. And those few consonants that he sorta slurs or whatever, I love those so much. Great performance
I dont know what people are talking about, Patrick's voice sounds awesome here, but of course it's not going to sound as perfect and crystal clear as the recorded version. When he's singing in the studio he puts all his energy into his voice, because that''s all he really has to concentrate on. It's completely different on stage where he has to move around and make sure he's in sync with everyone, and probably especially difficult with that mask. besides, when they're recording they do several takes and pick out the ones that sound the best. he's not going to be able to sing the same every time.
to those who hate on Patrick just because he missed a few notes: try to sing this song live playing a guitar while remembering every other song's chords and lyrics and wearing a ski mask
To those saying he missed some notes. So fucking what ? Try singing this song with asthma and a mask covering your nose, meaning you can only breathe through your mouth. This performance of his is still better than 98% of other artists'.
Julian Comeau Do they have other songs this ridiculous? 'cause it's very different to have an occasional high note than to sit up there for an entire song.
My favorite part of every video is watching people complain in the comments, then instantly getting shot down by thousands of the Fall Out Boy fans. BTW I'M A BIG ASS FALL OUT BOY FAN SO STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY SHORT BITCHES.
So what he missed a few notes? No ones perfect Big deal he's an excellent musician and this is a really hard song to sing live I think he sounded amazing loads of musicians sometimes miss or shorten words when live to keep ahead for the next verse and he also had fluff in his throat from the balaclava but still 10/10 performance
I get they look cooler with the masks, but to be honest, Patrick was pushing himself way too much with that! He sounds even more out of breath than in other live performances, I bet he was lightheaded too.
He was just limit testing. Also the first time I watched this performance I didn't even notice he's running out of breathe until 90% of the comment section bitches about it. Yall are just looking to it too much I still loves this version since it's also a concert
Why are people saying he did a bad job? Even if he didn’t hit some of the notes (because he was wearing a mask and he was tired) he still sounded awesome and this is probably one of the best live versions of this song
Cant wait to go see them in manchester, not only do i get to see the FOB but i getta see thousands of other people as obsessed with them as i am :) Arghh cant wait

shouldve tuned down the tone to match the vocal.. but eeh..

No. I want to hear perfection. I don't care if it's autotune or playback as long as it sounds good. That's what real music is about, not emotion

Put on your war paint, the war is won, before its begun, release the doves, surrender love, the war is won, before its begun, release the doves, surrender love, the war is won, before its begun, release the doves, surrender love, the war is won, before its begun, release the doves, surrender love

Put on your war paint
Sassy girl thanks for this
The sheer effort these guys put into each performance deserves an award. Fall Out Boy, Patrick, Pete, Joe and Andy I salute you!
Singing live is hard, have you ever tried playing a guitar, singing and dancing? It’s so hard!! Plus, it shows that they’re human and they’re not auto tuned, I really enjoy hearing them live, even with the struggle
listening their songs for thousands of times....still fresh to hear
seeing them in august!!!! so excited!!!
im going to see them in july im exited to :)
Young.. FOB.. LET'S GO!
oh I love them and the fact that they're back, stronger than ever
I dont fucking care if patrick didnt hit some notes he's got a soul voice and he's fucking hot and perfect. and whatever haters say Patrick IS a singer or what the fuck u think he doing in that video? huh?
i'd do EVERYTHING to experience such incredible 4:20 minutes like these!!!! 🙏
Patrick..can you breathe?..
***** Lmao i feel sorry for Joe, Andy, Pete, & Patrick that have to wear that. :3 D:
Lol doesn't sound like it in the beginning! XD
Haha probably he can't
Probably not
hypnotic spells Lol Twenty One Pilots always have ski masks on.... I just noticed I was 4 years late
some talented bandits performing my favorite song. great, they stole my heart.
If you can hit those notes with more accuracy and originality than Patrick....my bad bro this doesn't apply to you
In addition, they took this down an entire step from the original studio recording to help keep it in opening of show range
Check out live footage of "The Phoenix" during the recent tour. Second song of the set. ua-cam.com/video/Q3cS3K3wjdc/v-deo.html
This is one of the sickest songs I've ever heard.
Wtf
Kat Willis so.many versions.? He.does.w ell
sammiecutie1 I did too
always gives me the chills and I love it
Fall out boy, the only band that can make you dance in you're bed room
yeah,..even in dreams XD
Fucking right
I was living in Phoenix when this came out... not significant to anyone else probably, but MAJORLY significant to me
かっこよすぎ、、、大好き!
love the crowds! feels like im in there jumping and singing along
Can't wait to seen them in HMH :)
Me too :) Yaaay soo excited :)
I WILL NEVER GET ENOUGH OF THIS
Amazing! At least you can tell Patrick is singing and not lip syncing like so many artists do today. I'd rather hear an artist sing live and sound tired than a perfect lip sync!
Whenever he sings ~your heart~ it makes mine twinge in my chest
did he really have his fucking fedora underneath the mask the whole time? 😂
No lol, when the lights went out at the end of the song he took off the mask and put his fedora on, but it would have been cool if he had his fedora on over the mask.
0:45 My heart just melted.
Poor Patrick sounds tired as hell. But he still gave a hell of a performance.
UGHH PATRICK'S VOICE IS AMAZING!!!!
How did Joe fit his hair in that mask
the ultimate question same
It's completely different on stage where he has to move around and make sure he's in sync with everyone, and probably especially difficult with that mask. besides, when they're recording they do several takes and pick out the ones that sound the best. he's not going to be able to sing the same every time.
magic!
WHY CAN'T I BE THERE ;-;
bro i really miss this come back. brings back so many memories from my first fall out boy show. i miss the old days. :(
to those who hate on Patrick just because he missed a few notes:
try to sing this song live playing a guitar while remembering every other song's chords and lyrics and wearing a ski mask
one of the best fall out boy eras was the saving rock and roll, honestly JESUS THEY ARE SO AWESOME
To those saying he missed some notes. So fucking what ? Try singing this song with asthma and a mask covering your nose, meaning you can only breathe through your mouth. This performance of his is still better than 98% of other artists'.
I effin LOVE FOB. ♥
Aww, poor Patrick, he sounds so nervous :( Want to give him a hug... I really really want to see them live if anyone wants to take me there
No, he's exhausted because the song is way too high, and it's even higher on the album.
Julian Comeau Do they have other songs this ridiculous? 'cause it's very different to have an occasional high note than to sit up there for an entire song.
I do realise all of that, thank you -.-
Fall Out Boy is love!!!!!! Fall Out Boy is life!!!!!!
Your profile picture
OMG LOL
+Dhay Alshalah Yass
+Maddie Rose MY SHORT BITCHES
+Maddie Rose yes my PATRICK AND PETE ARE SHORT AND SEXY
This makes me even more excited for the holiday show in Wisconsin!
I can't help but think andy looks absolutely hilarious half naked with a balaclava on ;) nevertheless damn this song!!!
Patrick's voice are fantastic
So what he missed a few notes? No ones perfect Big deal he's an excellent musician and this is a really hard song to sing live I think he sounded amazing loads of musicians sometimes miss or shorten words when live to keep ahead for the next verse and he also had fluff in his throat from the balaclava but still 10/10 performance
I want see u in POLAND ! love u guys xx
I still love this song, tho. And his voice. Always.ALWAYS
I though novocaine was a black ski mask song
leave 😂
No don't leave
GoldiPiez no for real, in Novocaines lyrics there was something with "this black ski mask song"
They both are... Also, the whole save rock and roll album are black ski mask songs
He sounds amazing!!
i went to a fob concert yesterday and actually was no one was jumping or singing to this song except me and my brother and i was so confused
Literally the definition of epicness.
I wonder how hard it must be for Joe to put on that mask!
FOB is love, FOB is life
This is NOT a black ski mask song
OH MY GOD
"The world is just a teller and we are wearing black masks"
That would be nolvicain
*novocaine reference*
"go make a career out of robbin banks“
So psyched I get I see them in a week!!!
One of the best experiences you will ever have!!!!!!!!!!
Why are people saying he did a bad job? Even if he didn’t hit some of the notes (because he was wearing a mask and he was tired) he still sounded awesome and this is probably one of the best live versions of this song
Honestly I would cry of happiness.
They never mix Pete's bass loud enough in their live performance videos in my opinion.
This is one of the most hard-core fall out boy performances I've ever seen
To people saying that Patrick sounds bad... HE HAS ATHMSA that he didn't choose to have
Cant wait to go see them in manchester, not only do i get to see the FOB but i getta see thousands of other people as obsessed with them as i am :) Arghh cant wait
people said he sounds bad.... WHERE? YOU DISLOYAL ORDER OF WATER BUFFALOS!
😂😂😂😂
holy crap I loved the album version where you can hear lots of violin and stuff but instrumentals here are soo awesome like wow
