      I wonder if just by adding a 71 series supercharger to this engine you could easily move a 45' motorcoach down the road.... Albeit a few engine software and exhaust mods...... Without any forced induction this V10 already can move an RV or small bus so it should not be that hard to conceive....

      @@freedomlawnservice1987 I don't know why you say they are terrible,I own a 2002 F-450 with the 6.8L V10 and it has nearly 390,000 Miles on it,and no issues at all.The 2 Valve V10 with 325 HP/425 TQ is bulletproof and very durable,you sure as shit get nailed on how much gas they eat,but that's a no brain to figure out.The problem with the Vortec and even Hemi is that they get their peak starting at 3,000 RPM,with the Triton,it takes a good 2,500 RPM and then it takes off.I have gone as high as 4,000 RPM on a hill,but on a normal road I'm doing 2,500-2,700 RPM with any heavy cargo behind me.And then the 3 Valve V10 has even more at 362 HP/457 TQ.

    I had a 2000 excursion 2wd. I put 4.30s and a banks tuner/cold air intake and jdm y pipe, it really woke it up. Ive since sold it and bought a 6.0 excursion and have been regretting it ever since. I've spent more on repairs on the 6.0 than I did on the entire v10 excursion, and the v10 pulled as good with less drama. A lot more gas though lol

    Nice, I highly doubt my 94 250 with the 351 would do that, Ive had a little more then 15k behind it on relatively flat roads for about 15 miles. Way past the old workhorses rating haha. My only gripe with the video is that we never saw the trailer!

      Matt Pike I had a 95 F350 with the Windsor, and it would pull 15k with a little struggle at take off, but 70 mph was not hard to get to or hold. I used it pulling campers for FEMA, A 30ft double slide out was no problem, it would pull just as good as the7.3. I sold it with 250.000 miles on it and it pulled its whole life. was a damn good truck and very strong motor. I feel like the trans was better geared then the truck in this vid.

    3.73 and 4.10 were standard on the super duty trucks back then. Only way to get 3.55 was to put them in yourself. 10.50" rear end. The only thing this truck needs is the ZF6 manual. Would've done better on towing.

    Is your F250 a 3 speed or 4 speed? My friend who has one says his 2000 V10 is a 3 speed, but literally every website says it's a 4 speed until 2003 when they started using 5 speeds (even Ford's website). I wanna hear it from you if it's a 3 speed or 4 speed.

    • @TomB9685
      @TomB9685  5 років тому +1

      It’s definitely a four-speed, Ford hasn’t produced a three speed transmission since 1996. The V-10 was exclusively paired to the 4R100 from 1999-2004.

      Ended up picking up a 7.3 flatbed drw, loaded a 36' gooseneck trailer until the 12k rated tires went bulgey and the bed dropped about 3 inches when I rested the gooseneck on it.. I blew the front main seal on the auto trans on i40 through arizona, had it rebuilt and proceeded to lose 3rd gear in Tennessee.. couldn't find a truck with a manual, and I ended up paying for it. Now I'm pulling the parts together to swap the auto to 6 speed. Love that 7.3! Only running a programmer. Nothing else aftermarket that I'm aware of. Had no problems cruising 80 mph with that load on rolling hills passing everyone and everything.. Motor had no issues with the climb to 7000 ft elevation through az.. That trans though..

      they started in 1st gear, but eventually got moving fast enough for the next one. Thats just the way it is with a heavy load like that on somthing so small. Its a pickup not a semi. Imagine the diff this truck would do with an 18speed trans. You dont move as fast but everything is working much easier with an engine speed and road speed to match the load and grade.

  • @eldridge201
    @eldridge201 4 роки тому +3

    I know we could assume that the steering is bad but I think that the vehicle was overloaded at the tongue weight of the trailer. My guess is they just have quite a bit too much towards the front of the trailer which in turn is lifting up the front of the pick up so there is a loss of control over the steering which makes it pretty unsafe to be honest.
    Either way, whether it is the overloading of the trailer tongue weight or there is a steering issue, I don't think they should be pulling this much weight if the steering issue is as bad as we can evidently see in the video.
    That's not safe.

      It's definitely in 1st. The 4R100 has a relatively tall 2.71:1 first gear, compared to 3.9:1 for the modern 6-speed in use in the '11-present trucks. Less torque multiplication means it can run faster in first gear.

    • @isaachousley325
      @isaachousley325 6 років тому

      2idiot4u yeah, alot of 1 to 2 shifts in 4 and 5 speed autos create a huge rpm difference. The 4 and 5 speed autos the put in pickups were much better suited for the lower rpm diesels. Imo the gearing on them is just to far apart for the higher rpm of gassers. Finally though, they are starting to make trannys with close enough gears with the newer 8 and 10 speed autos.

The truck in the video should be rated at ~300 hp and a little over 400 lb ft. The only downside is some of the early ones would shoot spark plugs through the hood, but its not a major problem. They use insane amounts of gas aswell, dont expect more then 12 mpg city 15 highway

      For pulling power, id take a v10 6.8 over a stock 6bt cummins any day. The 6bt, or 1st gen cummins as poorly stated, didnt reach very far over 200 hp, where as the 6.8 is in the neighborhood of 300 hp. Simply saying that an engine makes 400 lb ft of torque with no regard to rpm means nothing, as torque is multiplied through gearing.

It’s not good to climb hills with that much weight on a 250 in 2 wheel drive. 4 wheel it wastes a lot more fuel especially with the v10 but it saves a huge mechanical issue waiting to happen. Not trying to sound arrogant, but it's always painful when I tow or watch a towing video of a gas truck. I only have diesels and even my 1988 7.3 idi is way faster than this with the same load. I actually like V10's though. Way more torque and as long as you don't drive them so hard you need a pyrometer and actually melt valve seals and guides they're really good.

      You're underestimating how steep the hill was. Here's one we did three years prior with only 10,000 lbs and a 7.3L truck.

      Where I live we have 25-30% grades. I've just highly modified the trucks I have. And my 7.3 idi actually way out pulls my 7.3 Powerstroke I've modified it so much.

      It seems like they were holding the truck back at the bottom. Put it in drive and put the pedal to the floor before you hit the hill. The truck will never get going if trying to accelerate up hil

    Well this is comical. This is why you don't get a gas engine in a 3/4 ton pickup. Should of got the 7.3.

      Have you watched the 7.3 do the same trailer up the same hill?
      Not much better. If even better at all.

      Watch the video of the 6.2L V8 F-350...It handled this hill in stride.

      The 8.1 Chevy/GMC is the best big block gas motor for pulling, it will pull that hill as good as the 7.3 Ford if not better.

      @@camoskill I've personally driven the v10 and 7.3 both towing thousands of pounds of windows and doors. I could care less what a UA-cam videos says. They're is a substantial difference in towing capabilities. Especially on hills. Who said the 6.2? I've also towed with the 6.2 it's trash all noise no power.
