Kiss the Salmon Goodbye - Back to VanLife

- In this video I wrap up the seasonal job in Alaska. I make it back to San Diego, CA to pickup my van from storage. I spent a few days with family before getting back on the road. I depart San Diego and head for highway 395. First stop is Fossil Falls in Olancha, CA. I immediately get hit with a heavy storm bringing flash flooding to the area. I navigate the storm and get treated to the falls flowing with chocolate milk looking water. I cook up some chicken tacos on the camp stove and feel grateful to be back on the road.
Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!
**Follow Your Dreams*
Yeah, I get that some people just come for the van life content, but most of us come here to see YOU! Personally, I just dig your vibe no matter what you film or where you go!
Boy did you ever say that well.
Brian is like a good friend that is always welcome,no matter how long between visits.
Brian's da man !!!
Doesn't cost them anything to

@@willsonmarcus1709 Hello
We’ve missed you terribly and would never leave you during your work season. So glad you’re back on the road again!!!!!
AMEN to THAT !!! Welcome back, Brian!
@@willsonmarcus1709 How do you know Sherry?
I enjoyed The Alaska Series as much as Van Travels. It’s about the Adventure! Thanks.
Did you like the work better this year or last?
Brian, glad to see another posting from you. It’s always nice to see what’s going on with you. Safe travels wherever you go and keep the videos coming. Myself and many others look forward to watching your adventures. I’ve been a subscriber of yours for a long time. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Stay safe and stay healthy!!!
It's crazy you lose subscribers when you do seasonal jobs when you have plenty of videos of you doing these jobs over the years. Keep doing what you're doing!
Yeah, I found that truly baffling.
Shallow people!!!
@@okcantbelieveit294 why? Everyone is entitled to do what they want without insults from people like you. Now that’s shallow!
@@carmenmartinez2882 Ah, returning subscriber perhaps? Of course everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, except it appears, me! If you consider, what I said, was an insult, then you’ve led a very sheltered existence! Are you sure your name isn’t really Karen? Democrat are we?
@@okcantbelieveit294 not Karen that’s Your name keyboard warrior. Not a returning subscriber but if I was it would be none of your business either.
Missed you, been looking forword your return. Look out for floods every where. Yellowstone had a real bad flood, Flagstaff and Phoenix and a lot of thoes areas. Also Kentucky got hit real hard. Utah also has flooding.Check the weather reports before you make any travel plans because a lot of things got washed away. If its not flooding its burning. Good luck and be safe.
Salmon and hard work make your lifestyle possible and we just follow along, let's get your subs to 100k. Thanks Brian.🤣🇦🇺🤟
Thanks for your Alaska series! Good to know that remote areas such as Naknek still exist!
Welcome back! These videos are about YOU and YOUR adventures. That's why we watch. We get to participate and see what happens as your life unfolds. At last, the video famine has ended. Thanks for taking us along!
Hey Brian..I could feel your excitement getting back to the van and on the road again ! You made the right choice leaving..better safe than sorry 😁👍 Don't sweat the subs that leave..it's a treat watching your videos no matter how infrequent ! This time of year (Aug) is gonna be hot East of the Cascades.. Oregon & Wash. Western Wash is much more temperate..tho we just finished a week of 90° weather. Looks like that is behind us.. nothing warmer than the lower 80° 👍 Take care & enjoy the journey my friend 😁✌️
Glad your back and all went well. When your away working, I consider it a blessing when your able to post a video. No, we have never met, but you feel like an old friend and it's good to see and hear your doing okay. It's refreshing to see your excitement to get back to van life. What a rainstorm!
Love the Kikkoman tee 👍
Yes, you mentioned Kelly. I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve been holding my breathe waiting to hear Kelly’s name. 👏
Thanks for this update. Fun to see you back in the van and traveling on!
Glad you are back in the van. I can't imagine people can't hang on with your channel for a seasonal job. I know that nervous feeling when you are in the van and the rain starts coming down. I always think I am going to wash away downstream, lol.
I just wanted to tell you that my husband was a huge fan from the beginning. He was One of your first subscribers. He followed your journey, celebrating all your successes and we would patiently await your next videos. You brought him many hours of joy, and inspired him to become a nomad., thank you for that.
Thank you for being such a good influence in his life. We were able to enjoy “vanlife” for 2 yrs in our converted shuttle bus. We were in the process of converting a cargo trailer when he sadly passed away suddenly on July 4th.
This is the first time I have been able to watch. I may have cried the whole video, not because it was sad but because it was something we always did together. We never watched one without being together.
I’m looking forward to seeing your continued adventures of you and Kelly. Thank you again for all great adventure!
Good to see you back in the van. That was crazy driving out of the flooded area. Smart move getting out while it was still low enough. Safe travels.
I'll echo the sentiments of others who have posted. I like ALL of your content and I'll stick around no matter the adventure! Stay safe and happy travels!
Glad to see you back, like the travel but love to see the seasonal jobs when you get a chance to film
Brian is the best nomad, he works for his money.
Some places here in Nevada Texas which is outside of Dallas we're at $3.49 for unleaded
Glad you’re back. Safe travels back with Kelly.😊
1Don’t feel embarrassed! It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Always go on the side of caution
I’m so happy to see you again. I missed you and I hope they let you bring back some of that yummy fish. Glad your home.
Should make a canopy seen people do it with tarps and pvc pipe etc .... jealous of the storm
Welcome back to the Lower 48 where it's been in the high 90's all across the country for weeks. Ugg! 🥵It's always nice to see your normal road life videos, but I also look forward to the Alaska work videos as well. No matter what you share with us, it's always entertaining. You are appreciated. Safe travels 🙂
We're with ya Brian. We like all your content. Thanks buddy !✌🏼
Good to have U back in the saddle Brian you thrive there my friend ☮️❤️to you and Kelly
Yum.... That Salmon & Spaghetti looked Delish....
Loved seeing the bear just strolling the river....
Even the Midwest is Hot - 95 today....
I will be dreaming of this next January during Winter....
Good to see you back....
Welcome back, and away we go!
Welcome back. I can't believe it's been two months.
Welcome back to your home. First video back and it was epic! Never second a move when it comes to safety. Plus the bike ride was fun to watch. Comment on the heat. You have seen my rig and this summer I cut a hole in the back door and installed a small cargo door. I then made a shelf and have a 2 by 2 on the outside and one on the inside to support the weight of my 5,000 BTU A.C. unit. I have 630 watts of solar and can run the A.C. with no issues if the sun is out. Battery just stays in float mode. I can also run it off my 1,000 watt generator if I would need to but haven't yet. Not sure how long it could run at night but with your battery set up I bet you would get a good run time. It would certainly cycle at night as the temps cool down. You probably already know all this but just wanted to throw it out there. Stay safe and look forward to your adventures.
👍 Better Safe Than Sorry! Glad you listened to your gut instinct, keep it up, someday it will save you! 🍀
I’m glad you listened to your intuition about that flash flood area of campground. People die every year being swept away by floods in campgrounds. Good to see you back. You have been missed!
Wow, that time went fast. Stay safe,
Really enjoy all your videos! Your part time jobs are interesting and really like your van adventures!
YAYYYYY! WELCOME BACK! I was just thinking "I wonder how VanMan is doing!" Maine summer has been BEAUTIFULLLLLL. Just got myself a little Kayak, started doing some fishing. It's been amazing soul food.
It is good to have you back safe and sound. I look forward to many more years of adventures with you. Thanks.
Oh heck, I know your routine. Always keep track when you get back. Be careful with getting flooded, the weather's something else this year. Very unreliable.
Good to see you back on the road. I've been following you for a few years now and always look forward to you getting back on the road. I enjoy watching the videos you do when you're working at your seasonal jobs, also. I think this seasonal Alaska fishing job might be my favorite of all of them. It's got bears. lol
HOLA MIJITO 👋
WELCOME BACK ❣
SAFE TRAVEL'S EVERYONE ,ONWARD BOUND ✌
Are y'all going to do some of the BDR routes ? Backcountry Discovery Routes, BDR is a 501c3 nonprofit group that has several pre-planned routes, on and off road. There are videos of them on UTube.
Have a good time.
The man is back!
Welcome back! We've missed you!!!
Missed hearing, "Away we go!" Welcome back.
Yay! So glad you are back!
Hey,just a note to say my xt250 does back fire a lot above 8000 ft elevation ,it don't effect anything but will scare the heck out of you if you're not familiar with it,it's couse of the fuel injection.
Brian good to see you back. Looking like you might be close to a 100k subscriber countdown.
Glad you're back, looking forward to your next adventure. Take care and safe travels.
Good to see you back on the road Brian. Safe travels.
Welcome back, Brian, and travel safely! On to new adventures...
Enjoy you and your content. Seasonal jobs is a real part of van life for most that doesn’t get seen. Most are here to just watch you and what you chose to share.
glad to see ya back. rather be safe than sorry out there. no sense in putting yourself in possible danger. be careful out there.
Welcome home. More adventures on the road ❤️☕
Very cool, glad you made it back, we missed ya. That trailer looks great with your rig. Please stay safe!
It's nice to see you back in your camper
I think you made a good move getting out of there
Welcome back Brian, and away we go.👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👍🏻
I don't mind pulling a trailer at all (being an ex-trucker) and like yourself being able to back in 'bout anywhere, I can put it about any place I aim for. When I get out on the road I'll probably have a 9x12 or something a tad larger with duel axles. Good to see ya off the water and on the ground (all safe) enjoyed your vid's from fishville, was really interesting.
I enjoy the seasonal job videos as well as the other…
We're here! I have the highest regards of respect 🙏 for the working man. You're determination and lifes values is who we come to watch.
You need to check out equal flows air conditioning system it would cool it would cool your camper off
Glad to see the seasonal job went well. That's all part of van life is sustaining your life. Flash floods are to be taken seriously. You did the right thing.
Always love living through you and your adventures. Seen every video. Thanks Brian, good luck and have fun.
Welcome back home!! I really enjoyed your Alaska videos!! We’ve been having terrible storms here in Alberta, Canada. Some places experiencing grapefruit size hail!! Have a great/safe summer!!
Your grapefruit must be small there then! 😯
@@lesleyhughes3174 The hail was larger than a baseball; caused total damage to over 70 cars on the highway; not to mention crop damage. Very ugly!

I didn't leave. Some people just have the personality for youtube, and you're one of them. I went wayyyy back in time and started watching you from the beginning. Very enjoyable!
welcome back. Looking forward to your vids.
Thanks as always, good to see you back in the van. Will miss the boat videos ain't gonna lie. Oh well there's always next season. 😎✌️
Welcome back. I wouldn’t eat fish ever again.

Very happy to have you back! Excited for all the future motovlogs.
Hey Brian! Welcome back to the lower 48! I am glad that all went well in Alaska, I always look forward to all of your videos. Thumbs UP!! 👍
Brian, Better safe than sorry. I kept thinking you shouldn't stay there and get stuck.
You did the right thing by me! :)
PS When you were chopping up that Chilantro my mouth was watering!
I love that stuff!
Crazy! I literally was wondering about y'all and texted her. Then next thing I know, your video popped up! It'll be interesting how you choose places now, towing a trailer. ✌️
YAY- you're back! Happy you got through another work season safely, & now you can be "home" on the road again, & meet up with Kelly; hope you have a good trip to WA~
I really enjoy watching the seasonal work that you do. Thanks so much for sharing!
Brian. We have towed a 7x4 trailer for 3 years & we couldn't have done the trip without it, period.🙏❤️ . Glad you made the season safe & back on the road.
Great to see you on the road again!
Funny, I think the seasonal job videos were perhaps the most interesting ones! Thanks!
I look forward to the Alaska adventure every year. That was a quick 2 months!
Been with you a long time..never seen you pour out the sweat like that..hot and humidity..welcome back ✌️👍
Greetings Brian!
1) Thanks for working SO hard in such a vital industry as fishing. Think of how many people you helped to feed!
2) This video was the best instructional video for newbies there could be. They all ask what would I do if… You SHOWED what one would do and why and weren’t a know-it-all about it. Seeing you handle the situation is mucho valuable.
3) Your personality and videos help me take a deep breath and continue on. Thanks for “being you”.
Glad your back, always enjoy your travels and cooking at end of video, safe travels.
Lol 😂, oh my goodness! I love your kissing the salmon goodbye pic 💋
Adventure around every bend in the road
Good to see you back. Looks like you just can't stay away from the water.
Hey Brian! Beautiful videos from your fishing excursion! Your videos are always so inspiring! The Cascades are incredible! Hope you and Kelly have a wonderful time together!
Hi Brian, nice to see you back safely! I always wanted to stop there on my way to sierras. I think you made the right decision! What a treat to see the falls run very cool!! Safe travels…🦅🙏🏼🪶
Glad your back missed you and Kelly
I don't get it - but I tune in for you and your work ethic is part of who you are. Its one of your core values that I admire. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the travel videos very much - haven't been to fossil falls for decades, so that was cool. It's fun to see you go to places I've been and to introduce us to places new to me. But my favorite part is how happy you are with a partner and all the adventures you two enjoy. The smiles on both your faces when you're together are a joy to see. Happy Travels - glad the campground turned out to be ok. That little trailer could be a game changer. Or a giant Pain - it will be a gas to watch you decide.
Welcome back Brian. Thanks for keeping us
Informed of the Salmon days. I could image the fresh taste. Looks like tuff work
Enjoy the motorcycle trip
You were missed! I tune in for All your adventures. Flash foods are no joke. I would rather be safe than sorry.
Wish you safe travels.
What a video! I was on the edge of my seat while you were going through those big puddles!! Glad you made it!!! Better safe than sorry, Especially when you have plans with Kelly 💕
You make it all look so easy!
✌️
I checked every week to see if you had a new video. You were missed! I really enjoy your positive outlook. I am very impressed by your work ethic! Way to go!
Welcome back! We are all happy to see you!
Glad to see you are back on the road again :) We are still getting our van repaired, it ended up needing a transmission rebuilt. So it's at the shop now getting worked on. So we've had the radiator replaced, the valve cover gaskets replaced, oil changed, spark plugs and wires changed, new alternator, breaks bled, new fuel line, and vacuum line, also the lines between the radiator and transmission replaced. They are telling me the engine is running strong now, and hopefully after the transmission is repaired, all will be good for a while and we can get back to finishing the build. In the meantime, I am refurbishing some of the old camper parts so we can reuse them. The guys at the garage keep assuring me we have a good van, it was just old and neglected, so it needed a lot of updating. I still want to get the AC working, but that will have to wait until we get all the essential systems working well. Next project to tackle will be repairing the holes in the fiberglass topper so it stops leaking, then we will continue the build. It would be great if you ever make it out to E TX to visit with you again, you could see the van. We probably won't be driving too far with it for a while, until we know it's stable, it's been towed 3 times now and that is adding up. I am excited that you are back at it, and getting to travel again. Hope you have some good times out there! :)
Can't wait to hear more about the trailer and motorcycle. Thanks for sharing the last of your Alaskan trip. So glad you're back. I look forward to seeing more.
Nice. Thanks for the fishing adventure. You got a free shower when you went out in the rain. You did the correct thing by driving out. Never underestimate the power of water. Love all your videos. Thank you. Brian!
Cool you saw more bears than any alaska cruise. It's been great to follow your summer salmon job. Thanks for sharing.
Brian. You are one of my all-time favorite channels. I can’t remember when I subscribed, but I love your cinematic touches and all of your content ~ whether it’s “van life” or seasonal work. I loved all the extra footage this year from the salmon harvest. Keep doing what you’re doing. Love it.
