  • In this video I show how we bring salmon aboard a tender boat for commercial fishing in Bristol Bay Alaska. Then we look at how the salmon are delivered to the processing plant. I cook up some salmon for dinner and talk about what it's like to work this job as a deckhand on the boat.
    Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

It's hard to believe that the fish for an entire year is caught in less than 2 months. Of course we know it's true but astounding nonetheless. Hard work for a short time but you're always such a hard worker that whoever you choose to work for is lucky to get you. Happy Summer!

Your summer job is a keeper. So much of that job relates to my time on the Great Lakes. One difference though, we had a head chef and he had a pastry chef working with him. I put on 20lbs in 2.5 months, all muscle. The job was pretty physical and like yours was around the clock when the job required it. Had no problem working off the daily fresh bread and Danish pastries. 😋 . Oh how I'd like to go back 50 years and do it all again.
