    I had the same problem after replacing a new set of brake pads, rotors and wear sensor. I drove the car to outside for a few minutes, and then manage to reset it again, and this time it was successful.

    Same thing happened to me on 2018 mini Cooper S… New pads and new wear sensor… It was driving me nuts getting the unsuccessful reset message… I kept hyper focusing on the new plug clipping it in and clipping it over and over… Finally pulled it all back apart, and pulled the new sensor off of the new brake pad and realized that the wear sensor has Brass surrounding that is obviously meant to make contact with the brake pad… New brake pad is glossy and painted… I scraped a little paint out of the valley where the brake sensor plugs into so it will make a solid connection. Put it all back together and success in resetting…that’s why even a new sensor is not working for some of you. It was a good effort in this video but it’s probably led people to destroy perfectly good sensors just to make the light go out.

    That’s because you did not release the handbrake. Release it then you do the reset.

      Easy, if you know how...

    I've just checked my outer pad, and it's nice and meaty! I'll need to wait until next weekend to have a thorough look now 🤦 200 mile commute and it's my only car in rainy England lol.
    Thank you for the insight bro.

      Release your handbrake before doing it. I've just had same problem, found another video that said you've gotta release handbrake and take your foot off the brake pedal (so car is sitting on the gearbox parking pin only so do it on flat) and then it'll reset.

    Easiest instructions. 1) splice sensor wires together 2) enter car 3) shut doors/hoods fully 4) turn off parking brake 5) hit start button three times 6) hold trip button until see service menu 7) hit trip for each item and locate one with red lighting 8) hold trip until reset? 9) hold trip to say Yes… voila. Done. I did not have to hold down my trip button as it was resetting in progress once it began I let off of the trip and it still reset it…. You don’t even have to take your wheels off to do this. You don’t have to jack the car up. It’s very easy hopefully this helps simplify things because I went to the same process trying to find Information and wasn’t all accurate. I had a 2019 BMW X1 S Drive M series

    Good job on the video. I'm having a similar issue, only problem is for me I actually installed a new wear sensor and I still get this message. I'm wondering if the sensor is defective or maybe I damaged it some how ... ?

    • @newfinishautospa
      @newfinishautospa  Рік тому +1

      I’ve heard that it needs to be reset with or without the parking brake being set. Have you tried both ways? Also, are you positive that the tip of the new sensor is installed fully and not contacting the rotor? Basically, yes, they can be sensitive and you may have damaged it. If you want to narrow it down a bit you can splice the wires together on the old sensor and see if it resets. If it does, you know the new one is also bad.

      I changed pads, rotes and sensor. Tried multiple times, was unable to reset. But without parking brake being set, reset was successful. So make sure the parking brake is off.

    Hi just had the same problem on my X7 2019 but I think it's better to disconnect brake pads sensor and reconnect it again, the car electrical system will know it was replaced , you dot need to cut wiring for still working sensors . This save time and money

      I have to add.. none of the BMW forums had that key piece of info about the brake pedal... my car is MT and parking brakes have been removed for nearly 2 years so foot on brake pedal when car is on and parked is habit.. Thanks for saving me taking off the rear tire and liner again.

    Much easier to perform resetting is if you just release parking brake and switch off the auto hold system... Then you don't need to disconnect anything...

    • @newfinishautospa

      Yeah it’s really just one wire that runs through that little sensor. When the sensor wears through it breaks the circuit so you just need to tie the wire back together after cutting off the sensor on the end.
