    I had done lots of research and finally decided to build a homemade swamp cooler for the 2017 VVA ACTON Maine car show. As air is forced through a cylindrical filter inside the cooler it, it looses energy as it evaporates water. To remoisten the filter just pull the strap rotating the filter through the approximate 1 inch of water in the bottom of the can. Vintage air conditioner for my volkswagen!

      Ugh frigging YT, I fixed it like a year ago, I thought anyway. I’ve fixed it it’s reprocessing. It’s ridiculous they don’t give me a volume slider for the levels or anything. Thank for pointing out it was still messed up

    Have you ever considered making the center housing free spinning and adding a propellor blade so the air coming through turns the inside? Even if it spun it a little bit it would at least keep from needing to reach over and pull a lever

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  4 роки тому +3

      yes, my only reservation if it get going theres nothing to limit its speed so if youre doing 45 down the street id bet that basket get spinning fast enough to start slinging water out the vent. especially with 45 mph wind whipping through the vent trying to pull water out. I have a few suggestions like that I may try this summer. Im most excited for the ideal of freezing the tray that my new filters sit in. I think i could get half an hour to full hour of double or triple cooler efficiency. Make sure youre subscribed for updates and check out my newest cooler lil' swampy!

      ecophage yea I was thinking that could be an issue but if it spun pretty slowly at highway speeds

      @@ecophage dude you should build a sting controlled vent so when your going fast you can close it 3/4 of the way to reduce the airflow and when your going slow you open it all the way

    Could this be built with PVC? Also could it be insulated by adding a bigger cylinder over the "air intake" cylinder and adding spray foam?

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  2 роки тому

      Yeah I don’t see why not. I’d probably just slide a sleeve of 1/2” foam inside the can to keep the bulk down and get an insulated layer.

    How did you make the wheel in the center retract?

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  5 років тому

      CaptanW in the center of the vent there’s a metal tab with an elastic band attached to it wrapped around the basket and preloaded like a engine recoil pull start set up. My second swamp cooler video may show it better.

      Thanks! Do these work ok? Im thinking about making one for my elcamino for the 2019 hot rod power tour in the summer. Temps will be 95 degrees.

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  5 років тому

      CaptanW well I have another video where I test them and get a few degrees drop at fair humidity and 80 degrees. So I would say five degree drop is possible maybe more with cooler water dryer climate. I’m in the north east so it’s tough to really test them. I have plans for a cheaper version then the ones I sell with out a moving basket. I’ll be doing another video on that one and doing some more testing so make sure you’re subscribed for any updates.
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@ecophage I managed to find it! It’s just empty inside correct? I can build internals for it myself if needed

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  3 роки тому +1

      @@thetigertard well no, watch the UA-cam video. It has a stationary filter in a tray. In the build video I test it wet and you can compare it to my coolers with moving internals. Just remember I’m in humid New England so these aren’t very efficient here. You’re welcome to make moving internals for them. I’d even discount it if you wanted no tray or filter. It’s just in my experience it wasn’t worth the extra cost for me to make the internals when the lil swampy style tested similarly and has no moving internals.

    • @thetigertard
      @thetigertard 3 роки тому +2

      @@ecophage an empty one would be perfect, the weather here in South Carolina can be all over the place so I think I may get more use out of the old style rolling sponge like this design and the old thermador coolers

    • @ecophage
      @ecophage  3 роки тому

      @@thetigertard so if you order a lil swampy and just put in the notes no filter or tray, I’ll kick you back %10 immediately. I won’t rivot the ends on so you can pop them out to work inside.
