Skechers Performance is back with another cushioned road shoe utilizing their HyperBurst midsole material. Also, it's name is entirely too long. The Skechers GoRUN Max Road 4 Hyper does a lot right for a shoe designed to go long with tons of well designed responsive cushioning. But, the upper will take some getting used to and is the shoe's weakest link. What are YOUR thoughts on this and Skechers' other road offerings? Let me know in the comments below.

Train Hard. Race Harder. Party Hardest.
Just “ran” a marathon in these today. Pretty comfortable. I was happy and my legs don’t hurt as much as they did in my last marathon I ran in the Nike Pegasus, and I was way undertrained for this one. I say if you are a heavy, slow, plodder like myself, this is a great shoe. If you are very fast I would only use it on recovery days.
Dear Shoe Designers,
Please invite Ethan to a design collaboration for a Ginger Running Shoe.
he'd still have likes and dislikes about his own designed shoe.

Absolutely. But wouldn't it be fun to see what he came up with?
I bought the Razor 3 shoe to try out and I really like them. My running buddies do not believe me when I try to tell them these are great shoes, they are Sketcherfobic.
The Razor 3 is one of the few Skecher's shoes on the market that I think is actually, legitimately cool looking. It looks like it's a lab prototype and it's neat.
Razor 3 is one of my all time favorite shoes.
I have to admit, I never took Skechers seriously as a brand. But here I am ordering some, after I've seen so many people rave about them.
I have a couple 10 mile runs in mine. I also have the previous version of maxroad and the Ultra road before that. I had some trepidation about the MXRD4 because of reviewers talking about the upper. I must be lucky, because they fit me just fine. They are definitely more snug than the MXRD3, and I don't find the upper all that stretchy, my foot was not moving around at all. I like a bit of toebox width, and these are noticeably tighter than the MXRD3, Ride7, Ultra-R2, etc. Feels tight putting them on, but I don't notice so much when running. My main complaint is that the stiffness of the heel pull-tab on the inside of the shoe grinds into my heel, and it felt like a blister was going to form on my Left foot. I'll probably do some surgery and remove the offending parts, because I don't use the pull-tab anyway. But that midsole! How can something be "responsive" and cushioned at the same time?! It's magic! Or Science. Walking in them, they feel a bit hard ("responsive"), but once running in them they have all the absorption you could want, as well as feeling firm when pushing off. Even heel-striking downhill they were cushioned to the point of not having to pussy-foot to reduce impact. But there was no mush on push-off, in fact they kind of felt like they were "popping" my foot off the ground like a race shoe with an internal plate. Weird. Would love for them to have an upper like the Ride7, though. One-piece knit uppers are horrible for faster paces and secure , adjustable fit. BRING BACK THE TONGUE!
Ethan, you're wrong.... my wife walked by while I was watching this vid and she exclaimed that she liked the looks of the shoe. It looks cool!!!
I’ve run in several models of Skechers and frankly have really done well with the brand. I’m a heavier dude with a narrow foot. I’m a fan of the brand.
I bought the Go run trail max 5 on your recommendation and absolutely love them! No one can believe they are Skechers! Gonna use for my upcoming 50k.
personally, It's a good shoe, but it's not as comfortable as it's previous version, you can really feel the hyper burst when you walk as oppose to a run. Ethan is definitely spot on with the mesh and the upper fit.
I have the GoRun hyper 7 and the speed one... I enjoy them both. I am in Arizona and I did find the hyper 7 did get a bit hot at times but nice ride
I bought the sketcher max road 2? Love them. Seems like I’m the only guy in NYC with them
I am Skechers brand man from the word go! However, the naming system has GOT to change! If you can remember a Skecher name shoe from start to finish, you gotta say Boom Shakalaka!
With the recent announcement of the "+" version of the GoRun 7, which is meant to address the problems with the upper, the original version has hit the sale aisles of Amazon and picked a pair up for nearly half price. Used them for an easy 5 miler with strides at the end yesterday and can say that I get the criticism that you and other had of the upper. But for a steady daily trainer they're great, although will probably be too warm for August runs here in the mid-Atlantic region.
Hello Ginger Runner , I tried Skecher Ultra Road on your recommendation. I am more than happy with those shoes. My running surface is mostly concrete road. Wear and tear on Ultra R shoes are comparatively less.
Definitely , I will try Max road on your recommendation, but will wait for discount season in India.

The sketchers max road 4 is my favorite shoes in 2019. Fast and very comfortable.
Okay, I am going to give these shoes a try 1st because I love Skechers and 2nd but very important these are now on clearance for $89.88!!! I don't think I can go wrong on that!
Excellent review. I always check in here before buying. Keep up the good work👍
Nathan - just ran the Chicago marathon in my Ride 7s. Was comfy throughout, note to get a new discounted pair. Maybe I’ll even get a razor 3 too
Go Run Razor 3 is a smooth ride and long last material.
UPDATE: As for the sizing and the snug fit on me, I discovered that the Euro and Merikun sizing in the MaxRoad4 are disparate! My USA10 are labeled EURO43.5 (which is usually USA 9.5). Over the years I've found that the EURO sizing is more consistent, and often a USA10 will have various Euro sizing on the label from 43-45. 44 fits me.
Keep the stack height !
I'm desperate for a long distance shoe with stack and drop like that, but even if a have a very broad fore-foot, I hate the uppers lack of stability and the outsole rubber pods (hot spots).
Hi I have one pair and love the comfortability but I also found the upper a bit tight and uncomfortable, anyways my question is that this shoes light up but no idea how to replace or charge the batteries etc can you please tell me how? Thanks
if Skechers Performance were to rebrand, what would you suggest in title or logo? Should they rebrand?
Skechers Performance IS the brand. No need to change, just continue educating.
totally agree with this review
Hey can I ask which is the softest squishy marshmallow like under foot the max road 4 or the nb 1080 v10...for an older retired fighter who's on his feet all day holding pads for people
Thanks so much love I found your page
I’d love to see a review of the LA Sportiva Bushido 2.
How does the upper compare to the original escalante? I have a wide foot and haven't found anything that fit me as well as the OG escalante. Minus zero, drop how does this compare?
I picked up a pair of Go Run Ride 7s last year. Really enjoyed running in them and cheaper than my previous Cliftons at £60 at the time, a bargain! Not sure if you reviewed them? Can’t find a review. I went on the recommendation of Jameson Michael.
Interresting, since my feet do not in any way fit inside those ekstremist narrow Hoka's.
Since the Sketcher is a road-shoe, I'm actually happy about what you call "narrow platform".
What about the tounge (of the shoe 😁) ?
I always get problems with flat tonges like on Nike's.
not all hokas are narrow. I have very wide feet and fit in bondi 6 wide, challeneger 5 wide, gaviota 2 wide, stinson, clifton 5 wide . However the clifton 6 is narrower, and speedgoat is crazy narrow.
@@melindajones304 thank you for the answer.
What is the heel like then, in the wide-models?
Besides having wide feet, I also have a very narrow heel (and high arc).
Ib Erik Söderblom
Heel can be a bit loose sometimes, hasn’t been a problem for me. I have no idea how the heel compares in wide vs regular. I also have a smallish heel. My current 2 favorite road shoes are Altra Torin 4.0 plush, and Hoka gaviota 2 wide. I do have to size up though, my feet in length are 12-12.5 and I pretty much wear 13/13wide in everything.
I'm a big guy and walk on side of my feet. Are these shoes good for me ?
as soon as you talked about the fit I knew this was not for my narrow foot. I've tried Hoka and been disappointed, and if this shoe is similar, that's a pass.If Hoka runs too wide for me, and most people say its too narrow, then my foot will likely swim in this, that said, you have made me curious about trying the brand.
How does this compare the the on cloud swift? They both kinda want to do the same shoe in theory. I am interested in what you think?
Almost seems like, by your description, that this shoe is like a "one size fits all/most" kind of shoe. Not a huge selling point.
Are you planning to review the Ride 8?
Hasn’t Hoka proven the higher the stack height is the wider the platform needs to be?
Hey Ethan, when are you gonna get your hands (feet?) on a pair of the Nike AlphaFlys that Eliud Kipchoge wore for INEOS 159?
“Just like internet trolls.” 🔥☠️
I can’t find the max road 4 anywhere in the uk??????
Hey dude what would u recommend as a decent pair of trail running shoes?
I'm not liking the Hyperburst. Nothing like Ultraboost. I have the Go Run 7 with the Hyperburst. And the the Go Run Horizon Vanish, with the Ultraflight midsole. The Ultraflight is way more comfortable and longer lasting. Hyperburst is rock hard and loud when running, like a horse. and because it is so hard and inflexible it becomes very slippery on the slightest of moist surfaces.... I am a heel striker and using the shoes daily with my heel pounding on the rear part of the Hyperburst, the inner portion of the hyperburst right about down to the midfoot, has actually compressed and cracked..... and now causes severe inward pronation in that area, making the shoes ride out of proportion and essentially useless after only 6 weeks. And I'm not a heavy person as I only weigh about 74 kilos. I much prefer the ultraflight on the Vanquish as it is more responsive with more cushion, but also moulds beneath your foot to whatever surface you are travelling on.... whether it be rocks, a curve in the road, an uneven surface, you name it..... where is hyperburst remains virtually inflexible. And is hard. And much less durable. It's so funny that those go run Sevens have the upper completely intact and the sole has hardly any wear, but because of this hyperburst midsole literally prematurely failing, I have to now throw them out.... I have a second pair of go run 7 and after 3 weeks the same thing is beginning to happen so it is not a one off..... personally I wish they would go back to ultraflight.
On sale for 50 bucks
Razor 3 is the King!
Got my Max Road 4 today in bright yellow with black underlay. Is this the flagship Bumble bee? Yup, this is one ugly looking shoe but the clearance price was beautiful. (Skips down the road laughing crazily!)
.”just like internet trolls”....btw, I am running in the skechers hyper speed 3s.. they are dope
huh, skechers site says 6 mm drop, not 4

Hello Ethan
Can I buy that tigerclaw hat?
Edwin chattellon for next years event, yup!
Jamison Michael has entered the chat
Edwin chattellon 😆
“They’ll never be able to shake the shape ups...” lol
Tim Evans I love how some can't open their minds to a new brand. The Performance group is doing some cool things. I bought the original Go Run and have continued to buy. I love the Go Trail series too.
Unfortunately shoe snobs and bike snobs are closed mind people from my experience . They are usually wankers too
Maybe you need a... PROLOCK in these! XD
Is anyone else getting a under toe rub in these shoes?
Very interesting brand.....sort of cousins of Hoka….original Sketchers ---underrated brand-comfy but I have a couple pairs of I think they are called Go
How are they cousins?
First
Dang it.
