I'm stuck with this too! Not enough space for the socket. I read somewhere about removing gearbox dog-bone bolt to allow some movement, but it's not helped.
4:46 I have a 2013 Golf Wagon, the stock control arm looks like the one on the right. Can I just buy the new one looks like on the left? Are they interchangeable? Thanks.
I note that the new control arm cam with new nuts for the Ball Joints section. However, I wish to know (because you video does not show) whether you used the old original bolts to install the new control arm sections? In other words is it okay to reuse the old bolts or must one order new bolts. (I assume that if the bolts are not deemed one time use, then it should be okay to reuse the bolts unless they are damaged)
I have a golf r with cast iron, and I'm having trouble lining up the 3 bolt aluminum bushing. I was able to force it in but felt like it was stripping... It was in an accident
i noticed that the one you have on the video is a stamped steel version, what's the difference between the cast iron version?? Is it stronger than cast iron??
I have an '06 VW GTI that needs two lower control arms with ball joints assembly. Is this control arm installation video what I would need for the first part of the assembly, or is the control arm in the video different from a lower control arm?
Stretch bolts (as well as locknuts) should always be replaced not reused (but if no choice use thread-lock); full weight should be on wheels in normal ground position before final tightening; subframe locating pins (e.g T10096) should be used (then re-alignment should not be necessary)?
I believe this only works for manual transmissions. On mine, the inner bolts are blocked by the transmission and oil pan. Have to lift engine or lower subframe.
I used my floor Jack with 2 blocks of wood and un did the trans mount for the passenger side and then when I did the drivers side I un did the motor mount.
yea i saw this and realize this it too easy and forgot about the transmission, I saw a video where the transmission oil pan is blocking a bolt entirely, a vid showed that you can unlink the transmission from the frame to pry the transmission forward just enough to unbolt it. Granted I need to do more research
@@austincrooks7385 driver side is easy with a manual shift. Passenger side is another Story... going in now. Wish me luck. I used a jack to lift and position the other control arm in place rather muscling it. Then torqued to specs.
+jose96397 We recommend soaking the bolts in some PB blaster or if that doesn't work, give them a little heat so they come out easier. Thanks for watching.
16 Nm is like using your fingers to tighten the bolts. It's 60 Nm with steel casting control arm and 100 Nm if you have sheet metal version of the control arm (as the older one here)

You guys did the easiest one...right is harder to remove
Why is that? I'm planning on replacing both my front control arms next week
All the videos I have seen have been the easiest side... driver side.
@@thecrittergitter7576 funny because my drivers side has a transmission in the way
I need to do this job too but opposite side bolt seems too go into transmission
How do you perform this job on the drivers side when you have a DSG automatic transmission?
I'm stuck with this too! Not enough space for the socket. I read somewhere about removing gearbox dog-bone bolt to allow some movement, but it's not helped.
Buy a manual
You have to Jack up the transmission side to remove the front bolt
Easiest way I've found, support the trans, undo the trans mount, raise it the amount needed to remove bolt..

Stamped steal is always stronger then cast
Your reusing stretch bolts torque wrench and specific torque settings is futile.

+pmbarcia This will be the correct how-to video for that application. 1aauto.com

Full weight should be on before final tightening of what
He torques once car is on ground

There is another video on here showing how to do it using a crow bar
I used my floor Jack with 2 blocks of wood and un did the trans mount for the passenger side and then when I did the drivers side I un did the motor mount.
great info.. can you replace the 2002 GTI the same way?
Thanks for the feedback! It may be a similar procedure, but at this time we do not have an installation video for your vehicle. +zanick2
Way to go bud you did the easy side haha wait till you realize the transmission is in the way of the bolt

If I’m not mistaken he did the transmission side in the video. You can see the trans drain plug. So I’m confused the engine side is harder?

get a manual 👌🏽
Those three bolts are very hard to separate from the arm. Any adeas???????

how about the passenger side? the oil pan is in the way.
Front bushing just 70Nm? Not 70Nm+90 or 180 degrees?
All the videos I’ve see. On this skip the removal of the wiring harness .
How do I get that off?
60 or 16 Newton Meters??? Can't tell what you're saying & CC says 16, but that seems little low. thanks
he said 16 MILLImetres haha

for the 3 nuts int ball joint, 16 Nm or 60 Nm..... excuse me.
Why do all the videos on this particular project always the left side the easiest one to do?
I have a 2016 R line the left won’t come off cause the damn Bolt is to damn long WTH VOLKSWAGEN
Oh hell yea, I thought I was gonna have to drop the subframe

You give no reason as to why this item needed to be replaced !!!!!!!! could you kindly let us know why this item replaced
They replaced it to give a reason to make a video, normally a control arm would need replaced when the rubber bushings are worn/torn/too loose
