15:48 - so glad to hear someone other than me call Rapidash "Rabadash". Since I was learning how to read when I first played pokemon, I mispronounced so many names. Now I just need to hear someone call Magikarp "Mantikarp" and my life will be complete.
Something cool that I think is underrated about you and your channel is the tier list you’re building from the experience of making these videos. Once complete it should become a very good reference point for the community.
I coined a few borelei, o-relei, hagatha. I could probably come up with more if I had a think. Should start a thread on this see how creative people can be 😆 And I was naming some Pokémon after 80s singers and called my geodude g.odowd 😆 Boy George's real name.
I like how the series is "How Fast can you Beat", and not just "Can You Beat". If Struggle didn't count as Normal type in Gen 1, then Magikarp could have beaten the game. That shows that any Pokémon that can learn more than just Normal type moves can eventually win. It is a matter of efficiency.
@@Krazymaddog Well the Brock fight should be even easier and the Gyrados less scary. Water is generally a strong type. But it'll likely have similar problems with Agatha due to lacking speed. And it'll have to rely more on special moves than Flareon.
@@Rork310 I agree with you on brock and gyrados. But squirtle had a lot of problems mid game, especially with kogan, erika, and sabrina, as well as lorelai and Agatha. I dont even think bruno was a one hot sweep, due to weak stats. I'm predicting slightly better performance because I think vaporeon has greater special and speed than squirtle, due to it being evolved.
@@Krazymaddog Well yes but the only stat Squirtle has over Vaporeon is Defence by 5 points. Considering it's massive HP and strong special I don't see them being that big of a deal except for maybe Erika. I do think some time will be lost in the mid game compared to Flareon but I think the end game will be a lot easier. I think Acid Armor is going to be a big help. It's a reliable way of setting up badge boosts and the defence gained plus Vaporeon's natural bulk should make it really resilient.
I'm binge watching everything man! I love your channel! I'd be curious to see another original serie's trio competing for the fastest run: - Electabuzz - Magmar - Jinx I think it could be a fun challenge between them!
idk jrose ya always say you wanna make these runs consistent, but that lance run you finally won on, the luck was just unrealistically fortunate, and the result of just throwing yourself at the battle over and over. Winning off a battle like that IMO almost feels like you're essentially just saving at lance and trying over and over just to pass him. Banking on all that stuff happening isnt consistent at all, and that's the thing I truly love about your videos. You try your best to eliminate luck and think your way out of the situations, and you didnt seem to do that here.
That’s been true for a while. At some point the priority became “not leveling up past my problems”, instead of consistency. I do sympathize, as grinding is *not* much fun. But I agree with you- we went from videos where Jrose went out of his way to do fights multiple times to test the strategy, to any win counting, so long as you win. This approach is probably better for getting videos out, though.
That Lance battle was so inconsistent though... realistically, you’d probably have needed to level up a few more times. It feels unfair to let Flareon get by on so much luck when you demand (at least some) consistency on other Pokémon
I agree, while Agatha requires one shots to be consistent really, Lance is not the case and getting so many crits, misses and everything else that happened in this battle... he could have used that luck to win the lottery instead
@@qgame4941 I just remembered that a Pkmn who is underground using Dig takes double dmg from Earthquake in later generations. So even bigger oof for Flareon. Iron Tail is inaccurate as heck and Superpower has an obvious drawback of fricking up Flareon's Atk stat.

15:48 - so glad to hear someone other than me call Rapidash "Rabadash".
Since I was learning how to read when I first played pokemon, I mispronounced so many names.
Now I just need to hear someone call Magikarp "Mantikarp" and my life will be complete.
"i dont want to regarde on luck"
laughts in Lance
Something cool that I think is underrated about you and your channel is the tier list you’re building from the experience of making these videos. Once complete it should become a very good reference point for the community.
17:32 - Jrose's "MLP reference" giving me flashbacks.
same, couldn't go two seconds in TF2 without seeing a pony spray at the height of the Great Pony Plague of the 2010's
Dear God in Heaven you were so patient playing this. I think if this was me I would have just walked away from the whole thing.
Clicked stronger than a Flareon with a Choice Band.
That Elite 4 run was actually amazing
Thanks for all your work with these videos, always entertaining
These puns need to be stopped!

Na, for real, I love em
I coined a few borelei, o-relei, hagatha. I could probably come up with more if I had a think. Should start a thread on this see how creative people can be 😆
And I was naming some Pokémon after 80s singers and called my geodude g.odowd 😆 Boy George's real name.
It's so interesting how significantly type impacts the early/late game. Also you're getting so close to 200k! Awesome vid as usual, jrose.
"Raticate was.... ERADICATED!!"
Good thing I had water close by, otherwise I might have not made it in time...
Because you're a fish?
I like how the series is "How Fast can you Beat", and not just "Can You Beat". If Struggle didn't count as Normal type in Gen 1, then Magikarp could have beaten the game. That shows that any Pokémon that can learn more than just Normal type moves can eventually win. It is a matter of efficiency.
Weedle can in theory but in practice might need perfect attack and speed DV’S and a lot of Stat XP.
We're all so early Seth Everman hasn't commented yet
Oh wow didn't realise how close you've been getting towards to 200K - that's awesome, great work! Cannot wait for the Vaporeon run!!! :D
I feel like vaporeon will go pretty good. In my opinion the best eveelution in gen 1 lets see how it fares.
I think it will have the same problems squirtle had. Its stats are more defensive, so longer fights will bleed him slowly
@@Rork310 nice prediction
I love the genuine excitement in your voice in the Champion battle
I feel like flareon was poisoned half the playthrough lol
I'm binge watching everything man! I love your channel!
I'd be curious to see another original serie's trio competing for the fastest run:
- Electabuzz
- Magmar
- Jinx
I think it could be a fun challenge between them!
I wish you'd do a full playthrough of Red or Blue, with a normal balanced team, or whatever you wanted to do. It would be good.
I wish so, too. I'd love to see which pokémon he'd choose (besides Kadabra, of course).
@@marystone1526 I'm guessing kadabra, kadabra, kadabra, kadabra, farfetched, and lapras
@@Krazymaddog Possible, but might be too few Kadabras. ;)
flareon is still the best out of the three in my heart and thats what matters. im proud of you flareon, and thank you for another great video jrose ♡
Next time do a run with a Metapod
Can't hit ghosts.
@@bitemytail struggle
@@EndlessMahogany Struggle is Normal type in Gen 1, see Jrose's original Red/Blue Magikarp video.
@@OmegaTyrant I know its normal type in gen 1. No one said it had to be a gen 1 run. He has done gen 2 runs.
Also Struggle hits everything and ignores typing
Best timing, was just looking for a video before bed - cheers from Australia!
This Lance battle felt far too lucky, definitely needed more levels and time to be consistent.
Yes ! But I find that not saving between the Elite 4 members evens out the luck.
I think jrose agrees thats why flareon is below gastly. It would need to waste time leveling some more.
I guess tradebacking growth would reduce the grind a lot, obviously Jolten would be able to do that too.
idk jrose ya always say you wanna make these runs consistent, but that lance run you finally won on, the luck was just unrealistically fortunate, and the result of just throwing yourself at the battle over and over.
Lance has generally been allowed to be somewhat lucky in the past
*coughcoughAgathalotteryoneveryruncoughcough*
I agree, while Agatha requires one shots to be consistent really, Lance is not the case and getting so many crits, misses and everything else that happened in this battle... he could have used that luck to win the lottery instead
Seeing a new video from you instantly makes my day better! Thanks, jrose!
however Flareon is the only fully evolved Fire-type Pokémon that cannot learn SolarBeam
Apparently Game Frak decided the Eeveelutions shouldn't be allowed to have type coverage and then gave Vaporeon Ice type moves to cover Grass types.
@@gotekeeper9519 And Pin missile to Jolteon for fighting PLants
@@qgame4941 I just remembered that a Pkmn who is underground using Dig takes double dmg from Earthquake in later generations. So even bigger oof for Flareon. Iron Tail is inaccurate as heck and Superpower has an obvious drawback of fricking up Flareon's Atk stat.
@@gotekeeper9519 yep poor flare on :(
@@rurihime8964...and Solar Beam.
JRose: "it's all about the consistency"
5 Minutes later: "OMG THIS IS INSANELY LUCKY!" xD
