As a child growing up in the 80s and 90s, I am grateful to have experienced a simpler time where societal pressure and body image were not at the forefront of our concerns. Back then, people were not as obsessed with censoring or policing what was deemed acceptable in terms of body shape and size.
It was all about censorship of violence back then. They were worried vidya would turn kids into psychopathic killers. It's just the next phase of the radical left haters and radical right Xtians going off on another crusade against anything they don't like.

Since the discussions and nerfing regarding Tifa's chest, in all these years since FFVII remake's release, I haven't seen any tourists, woke feminists journos in their side mention a word about Scarlett of Shinra who has a rack equal to or greater than that of Tifa's. Her cleavage is exposed in the game. No articles about covering her up or the usual ''male gaze'' talking points. How has she gone under the radar so long? Did these people even play the game or the original?
Tourist he says, as it's not a gameplay issue that is driving discussion but how scantily clad or not the women are. You're the tourist, get the fuck out of my fandom.
The fact is that zero people - ZERO, paused the flashback scene to ogle 15 year old Tifa's cleavage. This is done solely because someone in SE's DIE department decided to mentally self-pleasure by "subverting the male gaze" where no gaze was being placed. During Rebirth someone told SE to cover her up more, then some other harpy remembered, "Hey! Check the old game, too! We can't have guys PAUSING A 3 SECOND FLASHBACK SO THEY CAN WHACK OFF". I'd stake my life on it.
The "she's 15!" argument is a bullshit double standards because the same people using that argument know damn well that if it was a male character he could be completely toppless and they wouldn't say a thing regardless of the character's age (and if SE genuinely cared they would've added that undershirt in the demo itself rather than leave it there and then patch it out once the full game is out). That isn't the real problem here, the real problem is that square enix willingly used bait and switch tactics, proving they can't be trusted. As soon as they feel it's convenient to them they'll just roll back to full censorship mode through updates and flip us the middle finger all over again. Hell, for all we know they'll censor the fuck out of Tifa's swimsuit in the near future once the game's hype dies down.
Tifa literally acts and looks like a full grown woman. Since shes fictional they can say she’s anywhere from 13-35. But the fact is she looks like an adult.
@@brancast116 it’s creepy to say that she looks like an adult? How exactly? I mean she looks older than most 25 year old women. Developers might as well just say she’s 18 so everybody can shut the hell up about it.
@@DrStabkill Just picking at you, don't take me too seriously. Your comment had me laughing inside because I was imagining someone telling a cop "she looked like an adult! I didn't know she was 15!"
So here’s the thing: people are upset because of the censorship/retroactive censorship because it was never a problem before. Some may observe that it was because Tifa was a minor, or because of Sweet Baby Inc trying to appeal to western sensibilities. The issue I’m having is this: why now? If this was just as inappropriate then, why are they just now addressing it? Or if this was an oversight during development, why was it ok then but not now?
This isn't wokeness, but rather conservative values and how the US, in particular, is VERY protective/sensitive towards nudity. I don't think Square Enix would've minded keeping tifa if there weren't SO much regulation in place in order to hit certain target age groups ratings in different parts in the world. Where the US in particular is EXTREMELY sensitive towards nudity. Germany on the other hand has always been extremely protective/sensitive towards violence, blood and gore. While in Sweden (where I live) legal consent age is 15. And it's common to go to the sauna nude, even with female friends... Being nude in itself isn't socially considered "sexual" like the US. And cleavage on a 16 year old girl is definitely not seen as something sexual.
@@PixelShade you do realize that Japan is way more Conservative than any Western Country including the US, and its not the American/Western Conservatives that are pushing for the censorship in games and Entertainment anymore, its people who claim to be Progressive Liberals. Also the more recent censorship laws and regulations introduced in the west were done by so called Liberal politicians, for instance Germanies government has been "liberal" since at least the 90s, also here in the UK the "Conservative Party" is more Centre Left than Right wing and has been like that since the mid 90s.
WTH are you talking about? It is literally funded by ESG, part of the leftist democrats agenda. There is nothing conservative about this, it is a methodical woke investment.
Told you guys. They just removed Sweet Baby Inc ir ESG whatever it was from their website. They still ESG-ed up either by another company or on the DL.
The fact that they're already going back to censor a game that they had already dumbed down a few years ago just shows how fast they're moving the goal post.
The whole argument isn’t about 15 year old , it’s about censorship that goes beyond this one scene. And them being able to censor a game after purchase.
I haté when people in the west use the "She's underage, so that's problematic." argument, the crazy part is I've only ever seen them use that for eastern female characters, meanwhile they go to town on underage western characters and male characters in general, it's very clearly a virtue signal, as if you go back to the early and mid 2000s all they did was séxualize teen age characters some of which were played by real people(usually adults playing them, but not all the time), but the moment the character comes from the east(and usually drawn) "That's a Child!", I think it's this kind of ideology that caused our entertainment to turn to crap, everyone's afraid to touch "controversial" subjects in fiction, when often times they provide the juiciest conflict.
do yourself a favor and google, "tifa crisis core". there's no bait and switch, just dumb people who dont realize that, this is how she looks in crisis core.
So there's this game called Bright Memory Infinite (PS5 and Steam) that's a bit similar to Stellar Blade but was made by a one person Indie developer. The MC has dozens of revealing outfits, but the game has never been censored and has been out for about three years now. Apparently it's the shareholders who determine what gets censored these days, not the devs or the publishers. Whoever "owns" the company makes the rules. All eyes on Tencent now...
In my opinion it's simple: If it's not a Live Service Game don't change design aspects of a game after release or opt to give refunds after the fact. Here is an analogy: If I buy a car with black seats and 4 years after my purchase the manufacturer comes and tells me they need to exchange them for red seats I would be unhappy as well, since maybe I wouldn't have bought that car in the first place. Maybe I liked black seats and this was the reason I bought this car and not a different one?
This is why it's so important to download and archive your games. Just relying on digital storefronts is like leaving all your game purchases at GameStop and having to go back every time you want to play something.

I've never had a problem with light localization. However it's getting really bad these days. It's not so light anymore. They are changing too much and adding modern slang, which means these games will age like milk.
Considering there was already precedence for this before, I am not shocked that this happened now with the Tifa censorship, and you know it can get worse down the road if left unchecked. The shirt is already one thing. The localization is another.

Can't wait to hear your take on the "Sweet Baby Inc" controversy with the steam curator group. Couldn't be happier a woke consulting firm is getting blowback like that.
So basically, they lost a PS5 sale and FF7 Rebirth sale, and accessories, so about $1,000 lost, since I was going to spend that. It was because of that patch, when the censored the old version of the game from 4 years ago. That change set a bad taste in my mouth of what they will later do to FF7 Rebirth. I don't think most people who bought the game realize, that later what's stop the devs to removing outright all the things they used to promote the game. And as for you, kind sir, you have dropped your crown, king! Subbed! Awesome points! Thank you!
I don't care about pixelated boobs, but I do care about censorship. And I bet if they started censoring attractive male characters Twitter would have a meltdown.
Other countries show nudity on late night tv on basic channels. Magazines, i remember werent covered up if the cover had a nude model. Its just different in other countries. This is possibly the lamest part of America, the condem-nation.
Yeah your right, the outfit isn't even sexual, it was cute. The censoring of Tifa is unnecessary. The black sports bra underneath but the cowgirl outfit as well. Square created unnecessary divisiveness. People that focus on TIfa's being underage are ignoring the precedence that this sets up. What if something even more tame gets censored later? It really makes no sense. Why do the swimsuit scene Square, if you're just gonna censor something? This is sending mixed messages. What do they want?
This is just like the Skullgirls censorship controversy where people have paid a game from 2012 and supported it by contributing thousands of dollars to the game's fundraiser to add more content to the game, and then in June 2023 it gets censored just to "appeal" to the mass market. That's what this is; attempting to appeal to people that never play video games, feminists, and modern wokeness. I've said this before; let us have a censorship option. If the entertainment industry is now supposed to be moral guardians, then objectively, anime should be banned. Look at Ryuko Matoi of Kill la Kill, her battle outfit is absolutely inappropriate given she's 17 years old, and yet she remains uncensored. Case in point: Games that people had already paid for should not suddenly get censored just to appeal to modern agenda. If the ESG continues with this unnecessary, then they should expect a collapse in the entertainment industry. We need to get Stellar Blade to sell at least a million and then some within six months of release. That should show both the ESG and any Japanese gaming company that bends the knee to modern wokeness.
If I were the gaming community who bought this game and they decided they had the right to alter already purchased content, I’d sue them. The companies like Bungie who decided to take out content that was purchased, or Electronic Arts taking full price for Anthem which was not a full game, they then promised they would make it right only to give the middle finger to the buyers two years later has to be stopped.
I totally agree with you, on the ending line my brotha. Usually I'm 100% against changes from original source. The "Steel Sky" line, though, is more poetic/artistic with more emotional weight within!
The age is just an excuse and we all know it. If they think the cleavage is sexualizing her, what about her stomach or legs? People claiming others are pedos for liking a clearly adult looking design, are highly likely to be hiding skeletons in their own closet. I have to disagree with your stance on the localization change however. It made it more accurate to the Japanese and is therefore a better representation of the original artist’s intent. They should have done this with a lot of the script (because most of it wasn’t accurately translated too), and then just made it an option in the menu to have a more literal translation instead. Also, the pirated version is uncensored 🏴☠️
Those are my Original Characters for an upcoming comic book series and the Universe I am building. The one behind me Is "Alter Squad X, " one of many different comic book series set in the same universe. My first comic book campaign will launch in September, so stay tuned.
from licensing issues to censorship either you try and play a physical copy of the game on your console or straight down depend on a pirated copy of the game on PC despite owning the game on Steam/EGS (GOG allows you to revert back) - its ironic those are the options these companies are enforcing as alternatives these days. as for the localization, I get you - I love learning subculture of Japan with Anime/Games as its medium so for the most part I prefer it as loyal as possible, but there will always be exceptions on it. Like the Metal Gear series with the US localization will always be the go to for me, Cowboy Bebop, or even PATLABOR Trilogy films where I prefer the Manga Entertainment dubs over the Bandai re-dub for accuracy which just have no soul.
It's the same issue with, "Oh, I can't keep my hands to myself, so that means you need to cover up more" when women are sexually harassed. This is a phrase I have heard many times, including when foreign men are handsy with women. Our freedoms become limited because someone else can't control themselves.
Great video Mugen. I think your next video should be about Sweetbaby's downfall. I'm sure you've seen what's going on with that company and the Steam curator where it has many followers over 100k. The sad part is that even if the company closes another one will take it's place. But I'm hopeful when every new company is formed with that specific goal more and more people will be aware about their purposes. I don't know about you but people had enough of wokeness in general and it's starting to decline.
One of my main problem with the whole Age argument that none of these people can ever give me a straight answer for is they are saying she is 15 but let's be honest she isn't real she is nothing but lines and pixels and in the Japanese and English Versions voice by women who are 18+. So why are we even giving agency to a fictional character because of (a fictional) age ? At the end of the day censoring in any form is lame as hell, especially a game rated 16 yr old and up. Censoring this game especially since its 4-year-old game shows the consumer base that Square can't be trusted to leave the games intact years down the road which is the main issue most people have with the Tifa shirt situation it has very little to do with her actual cleavage itself.
This is just teaching companies that release a game and then after sales are drying up release a patch to censor anything "problematic" later. Imo anyway. Also definitely agree with the localization point you made. Yes there are horrible localization where stuff gets put it that change the scene or add politics, those are bad. No argument there, but this change wasn't necessary and the old line is better imo.
People are mad because it's unnecessary censorship. Whether it's because they're attracted to Tifa or not, people generally don't like it when things that don't need to be changed are changed. There's no reason for this. Tifa wasn't anywhere close to nude. We weren't looking up her skirt. She's wearing a crop top. You know who else wears crop tops? Real 15 year olds. I said this on another video, but I don't mind saying it again. When I was 12, my swimsuit was a string bikini. Nobody said anything about it. My swimsuit is still a string bikini. Nobody is saying anything about it. Nobody is or was trying to throw a blanket or jacket over me and get me out of sight. These people need to go to a beach, or walk through a shopping mall after school hours/on the weekend. There is teen cleavage *everywhere*, and a lot of it much more revealing than Tifa's fairly modest cowboy outfit. The sky hasn't fallen in. It's *fine*. And then that's not even starting on the fact that 15/16 is legal in most of the world. It's mostly just the USA that clings to 18-21 for pretty much everything. A country ironically sandwiched between two countries where the legal ages are 15 and 16. Go figure. Will a black undershirt break Rebirth? Probably not. The game's going to be good, and bad for the same reasons regardless. But that doesn't change that this change wasn't necessary, helped no one, and is just quiet virtue signaling from Square Enix. I'm personally sick of it. I'm sick of overpaid safety and ethics departments meddling in game development. And I'm sick of entertainment companies, both foreign and domestic changing how they make games to placate a group of pearl clutching psychos who don't even buy or play them, and at the expense of the people who *do*.
Does anyone notice that Square enix is sexist. So far, we have three female main characters we have Terra, Yuna, and Lightning, and we only have one female main villain, Ultimecia.
The costume Tifa was wearing is a big deal also that line change, only means one thing they can take away your games anytime, they might have a patch that can ruin the game forever.
It's not about not seeing a young tifa cleavage, it's about if they can censored a four year old game, what's to stop them from changing future games on day one of released, that's the real problem, and please I wish people would stop bringing up age, tifa not a real person, plus if we are being real here the game is over 20 years old meaning everyone should be in their 40s, but we know that would never happen since fictional characters aren't real and don't age, flash back tifa will always be a 15/16 character and present tifa would always be 19/20 years old character, and also the age is literally just a place holder so we can know their age it means nothing.

I've been playing FVII since the original was released. I've always been "Team Tifa"...outrageously sexualized huge boobs and all. It wasn't until well after the 90's that the argument that "that's just how some women are shaped" came into play. In the 90's, it was just commonplace for female characters in video games to be sexually idealized. No biggie back then at all. Fast-forward several decades and the same people that argue that women shouldn't be portrayed as such have no problem with stereotypical, idealized-male physiques still being prevalent while making women look quite un-feminine... I can see the reasons for both sides of the argument and can also see the ridiculousness of each side of the argument. I came to the conclusion that imposing morality-based opinions on a fictional character whose own moral standpoint would be dependent on the standpoint of the development team that created that fictional character renders the whole argument irrelevant. The only argument for changing the outfit that seems to hold water is the fact that only recently has Japan changed it's age of consent from 15 to 18. Even then, it's not that strong of an argument. Go to the mall and you'll see females of all ages with cleavage of all different sizes wearing clothing that reveals it. Butt cheeks hanging out of incredibly short shorts that are acceptable today, ironically enough, would've been considered overly sexualized and slutty back in the 90's. Nobody goes around and holds a blanket up in front of them to cover it from the public view. That would be considered out of place and bizarre. Sort of like going back after 4 years and patching a character design. Nonetheless, if it were Square-Enix's attempt to distance themselves completely from sexualizing a 15 year old, that would be one thing. But the fact that it took four years for them to do so lends itself much more to the censorship argument. Unless of course they were doing so to keep up with that change in age of consent. I don't have enough details as to when Japan changed this age limit to see if it equals out to Square-Enix's decision to alter the outfit...nor do I care to find out. I'm just enjoying the debate for what it is and smiling from that part of me that will always understand that this is exactly why gaming was better before patches and incomplete games being released was ever a thing. It's too easy to piggyback politics and digital media-ownership dilemas onto technological advances for it to ever maintain honesty...let alone prioritize the paying consumer's best interest.
In all fairness, the change made to the costume most likely stems from the fact that the legal age went up in Japan in the middle of last year. We can hate it all we want or find it woke, but there's a good chance they were in fact forced to reflect this detail properly by their own authorities there. Not so much because Westerners suddenly were upset, as crazy as that is to believe in this day and age.
You are so right. All ill say is tho I dont support any of this shit, but at LEAST they made her right in costa del sol FOR NOW. I got to the area and oh man do they bounce and shift in cutscenes. Even 9 playing piano, square is so dumb as fuck for doing tifas cowgirl like that.
When it comes to translations, I view them as similar to headphones. Their purpose is to transfer to my senses what the artist intended for them to experience. Rather or not adding more bass to a song will result in a version of the song more in line with my preferences, or allowing more artistic license to create a line that, in this case I actually agree is the better line, is not relevant. The job of the translator, is make the waifu speak English. The end.
so ya'll still want to be nice to these people and let gaming be messed up even more, these people have no problem taking what you love screwing up right in front of your faces because they know you want do anything about it. at this point being professional doesn't work, if you want to get rid of a problem then remove it, if you want something that you desire real badly then you gotta take it, there's no in between.

As a child growing up in the 80s and 90s, I am grateful to have experienced a simpler time where societal pressure and body image were not at the forefront of our concerns. Back then, people were not as obsessed with censoring or policing what was deemed acceptable in terms of body shape and size.
People had thicker skin back then. Now they're offended by everything.

It was all about censorship of violence back then. They were worried vidya would turn kids into psychopathic killers. It's just the next phase of the radical left haters and radical right Xtians going off on another crusade against anything they don't like.

Censorship and tourists makes me hate video games
Facts, Same here.
Yup, if only gaming had remained as niche and unappealing to the general masses as it was once was we wouldn't be having most of these problems
Why tourists?
That's a pretty creepy take on it but ok😝
Or if this was an oversight during development, why was it ok then but not now?
the waited to last minute to get all pre-orders before they did it..i will never pre-order again...screw the company
Woke need to be illegal
It's literally state funded racketeering and tortious interference.
It's already illegal.
The law needs to be enforced.
@PixelShade nah, it's wokeness.
This makes you reminisce about the days when you didn't have to deal with or worry about this.
The people saying that its not an issue are adding to the problem. Once you give censorship an inch it'll take a mile.
Exactly! Their like, but look at the swimsuit. Yeah, that's great, but that doesn't mean we give them a pass on censoring a 4 year old game!
The fact that they're already going back to censor a game that they had already dumbed down a few years ago just shows how fast they're moving the goal post.
my question is: WHY NOW, SWEET BABY INC. & SQUARE ENIX ?🤔
......You waited YEARS to make this change! 😑
this WILL cost you Square.
Will there be more bait and switches from Square Enix in terms of censorship in the near future?
do yourself a favor and google, "tifa crisis core".
there's no bait and switch, just dumb people who dont realize that, this is how she looks in crisis core.
Yes.

What happened to Bright Memory Infinite? Did it get censor or not?
nah that company cant be trusted either, plus its blackrock and sweetbabyinc and vanguard who push woke on companies in shade of esrg
I am afraid the little brother of 50 cent will ruin From Software.
In my opinion it's simple: If it's not a Live Service Game don't change design aspects of a game after release or opt to give refunds after the fact.
Here is an analogy:
If I buy a car with black seats and 4 years after my purchase the manufacturer comes and tells me they need to exchange them for red seats I would be unhappy as well, since maybe I wouldn't have bought that car in the first place. Maybe I liked black seats and this was the reason I bought this car and not a different one?
This is why it's so important to download and archive your games. Just relying on digital storefronts is like leaving all your game purchases at GameStop and having to go back every time you want to play something.
Usually translators and localisers are different people. Giving options would be ideal.

Exactly! Just like they would have no problem with Eve in Stellar Blade if she was tr@ns. They are hypocrites. It's all about diverting what they perceive to be, the male gaze.
Your Translation Note is why I've never liked literal Japanese to English Translations. However the Current Censorship now changes things with an Agenda , whereas the Changes in localization I like were more to do with transferring things to flow better for Western audiences whilst keeping the core sentiment of the OG Japanese, unlike current censorship

Hopefully with all the backlash with sweet baby and stuff like that these Japanese devs will wise up and realize they need to stop listening to the western censors, and perhaps rebirth was caught just before this realization happens.
Can't wait to hear your take on the "Sweet Baby Inc" controversy with the steam curator group. Couldn't be happier a woke consulting firm is getting blowback like that.
Yea, ill be covering that soon.

Where'd you get the thumbnail? asking for a friend of course.
I impose an idea where you have the options to switch what kind of clothing your characters are allowed to wear.
This is where it starts. Next, cloud will be decorated in rainbows and they will give all the girls remakes like the new X-men show is getting.
I know right, sounds so much better.
I need that thumbnail please
Its why Im waiting for Rebirth on PC. They can censor, but with Mods I can uncensor it.
"Fluid experience" Anything but... Really!?
The age is just an excuse and we all know it. If they think the cleavage is sexualizing her, what about her stomach or legs? People claiming others are pedos for liking a clearly adult looking design, are highly likely to be hiding skeletons in their own closet.
I have to disagree with your stance on the localization change however. It made it more accurate to the Japanese and is therefore a better representation of the original artist’s intent. They should have done this with a lot of the script (because most of it wasn’t accurately translated too), and then just made it an option in the menu to have a more literal translation instead.
Also, the pirated version is uncensored 🏴☠️

from licensing issues to censorship either you try and play a physical copy of the game on your console or straight down depend on a pirated copy of the game on PC despite owning the game on Steam/EGS (GOG allows you to revert back) - its ironic those are the options these companies are enforcing as alternatives these days.
as for the localization, I get you - I love learning subculture of Japan with Anime/Games as its medium so for the most part I prefer it as loyal as possible, but there will always be exceptions on it.
That's next week video.
Why does it matter if it is sexual? Sex seles. Why do we have to except the sexual styles of cross dressers etc but not normal people 🤔
One of my main problem with the whole Age argument that none of these people can ever give me a straight answer for is they are saying she is 15 but let's be honest she isn't real she is nothing but lines and pixels and in the Japanese and English Versions voice by women who are 18+.
Thanks Squeenix! 😂
wait a moment, i thought the square enix fired their ethics department?
This needs to stop They're ruining our games We have to get rid Once and for all
Facts I agree with you 😎
Does anyone notice that Square enix is sexist.
I find it really strange that people have so much smoke over Japanese fictional characters but have 0 problems with characters like Stewie from Family Guy despite knowing the things that show puts him through.
@@Gameboynitro it's a American sitcom that allow it since it's comedy, meg a minor but she had sex with a grown man, Stewie had sex as a baby, worked a job, and did drugs too, but it ok, and let's not forget all the child abuse in the show, but it's ok since they're not real and it's a cartoon, simple American hypocrisy.

Good luck to those who still trust Square Enix after this nonsense
Of course... lol! I'm glad I stuck to my guns and I will definitely be avoiding Square for many more years to come. :)
Its okay when I play it on pc in a year she won’t have any clothes on at all
In all fairness, the change made to the costume most likely stems from the fact that the legal age went up in Japan in the middle of last year.

Btw, up in a tizzy is a perfect phrase. You’ll be saying things are scrumptious/scrummy next mate, then we’ll have to make you an honorary Brit 😂😂
I would hope people not support this. This was the most anticipated game. And it's launch barely feels felt.
If you buy these games you deserve what you get. Sail the high-seas, mod the woke out of it. Enjoy! Why? Because you're not paying for the artists work anymore. You're paying for the coercion of their work. And I for one am not going to support a gestapo with my money. Under any conditions. It's just that simple if you have a spine...
the fact that a literal pixilated character needs to be censored to not upset fake fans and fake gamers is just annoying. if a fictional character upsets you that much, don't buy/play the game! but don't ruin a game with useless censorship for other people just because you can't handle nice looking characters. it's such a simple logic and yet if you say this, people get up in arms. lovely video thank you for it!
