To this day this is one of my favourite episodes in the series. It shows not only that KITT is like a person when he's hurt, but his friendship with Michael has become so close.
It's at that point I knew as a kids that K.I.T.T. was more than a machine that his computer program developped a soul. It was at that moment I knew K.I.T.T. was no more but Kitt rose to became his own thing a living being in a shape of Trans-Am ♥
The moment they realize KITT was, in simple terms, scared and afraid but trying to act brave to hide it, was very heartbreaking. Not so much for their realization, but for KITT himself to be under such condition. Even though he's basically just a machine with a built-in highly advanced computer onboard. That AI has far more personality and emotions than most human beings, so it is really easy to sympathize with him.
that was one thing (well, one of many things) I didnt like in the 2008 sequel series. KI3T was very emotionless, which was weird since the 3000 was supposed to be more advanced than KITT
@@cernstormrunner7263 I fully agree. K3K was also a lot more frail than K2K. His body was sturdy on its own due to the special coat on on his paintjob while K3K relied exclusively on nanotechnology, which in turn was completely reliant on the AI to work. If the AI was turned off or removed, the body would become no stronger than any ordinary Mustang or other normal car, becoming completely vulnerable to everything. K2K on the other hand, if turned off or removed from the car (as it did happen on multiple occasions throughout the show), would still remain nearly indestructible and so long as the driver could manage the controls, could still perform almost all of its special functions, which is something the car on the reboot could not do. That was another one of the many things that bothered me. The special coat the original KITT had should have been used on the new KITT in unison with the nanotech. _That_ would have been an actual advancement. Though honestly, the coat itself was already too advanced on its own, even on its time.
I saw a 82 trans am once at used car lot. 3 years ago I went to check it out, and the lady who handed me the keys said the car may not start since they've had battery trouble for 2 days. But as i sat in it and put the key in it started without a stutter. Not one it just roared. It was probably the most beautiful sound I ever heard. Sadly I didn't have enough money to buy it (since I'm a high schooler) so it just disappeared one day. But ever since then i seen firebirds almost everywhere. I later brought a 04 Pontiac grand am GT.
To see KITT face his vulnerable side, it shows he has failings and weaknesses as a human being to deal with a serious injury or adversity for you to rise up and conquer your limits.
Michael: "KITT, back before we met. Back when I was Michael Long...(scoffs) what am I telling you this for huh, you already know the story. But maybe you don't know all of it. When I was shot, for weeks after that.. everytime headlights went by or someone lit a match, I'd flinch." KITT: "How did you overcome it?" Michael: "I didn't. It overcame itself. All I did was refuse to give into it and do what I knew had to be done."
The shot just after that with KITT's dark voice display show's a lot. Like he's thinking of what Michael went through in his previous life and how Michael is now.
no one ever seems to have their mind blown by the fact KITT is basically a fully sentient very intelligent entity with a fully formed personality of like and dislikes. He's basically a human with cars body and a computers computaional speed and in real life some 30 odd years later we're just barely beginning to create AI and it's not one fraction as devoloped as KITT.
The fact that they were able to repair him to this point from almost nothing left but an empty shell and a few memory bank chips tells me they shouldn’t have given up on KITT so easily.
I'm actually going to it. A computer to run many different functions, a modern engine of 600HP plus, proper suspension and diff, engine shielding and body reinforcements so it can jump. It won't be able to ram through buildings, but it will be the hell of a car. It is possible.

1:26 You know, while "Junk Yard Dog" and "Knight of the Drones" are both great episodes, I often feel KITT sinking in acid could've happened at the start of Season 3, leading to his dashboard upgrade. KITT sinking with his old dash disintegrating would've felt like a tragic loss after being associated with it in Seasons 1 & 2. Then of course introduce his new dash when he's being recreated and restored. Sometimes feel that would've been a better cause for KITT's dash upgrade than a missile fired up his exhaust in "Drones". But hey, I still enjoy these episodes as they are. Was just merely thinking 'what if' :)

They made the mistake of using what would later become Tesla self-driving technology. Luckily they switched back to Knight Industries tech and KITT was back to his old self.
This deserved to be a 2-hour episode. Also, I read somewhere, this particular car was the car they used to become the Super Pursuit Mode car. Not sure how true that is.
Actually, I think that's the Seasons 1-2 car, which they continued using after KITT's dashboard upgrade in "Knight of the Drones" for these blind driving scenes. Cuz if you look closely during this scene, there's a couple shots where you can just see those little twin monitors of the Seasons 1-2 dash instead of the big single monitor of the Seasons 3-4 dash. For this scene, they put white padding or something on the car to make it appear white. And yes I agree, this should've been a 2-hour episode.
@@AndrewChapman yes, it was definitely a season 1-2 car. You might be right about the covering, I always thought it was just a bad primer job. Will have to wait and see what the Knight Rider Historians say when they break this episode down. Also, if memory serves me, in KITT v KARR, at the end, when Michael tells John that he owns the marina, I believe that too is a season 1-2 car as it has a two tv dash.
They used 2 cars for these scenes. The one pulled out of the pit and shown in the repair bay was originally a season 3 stunt car and later used as the static super pursuit vehicle. It was only used for the close up shots of the various fins and vents extending. it had the engine and interior pulled out to make room for the hydraulics that worked it. It was a train wreck auto so had to be crushed when the series ended. The car seen driving round the course was most likely the season 1 & 2 backup hero car (hence the 2 screen dash visible) and modified to be a blind drive car. By the time the episode was filmed, the main, season 1 & 2 hero car had been destroyed during filming and pretty sure none of the stunt cars had the full dash in them. If it was the backup hero car then it was one Universal owned outright so wouldn't have been crushed and probably survived. Not sure where it ended up though.
I love that KITT asked Michael to be at his test run. It was nice Michael said he wouldn't miss it for the world, after all he let KITT die in a vat of acid.
the Relationship with Michael and Kitt is special it goes beyond a man and a computer.....they are true friends. I like how Michael tells Kitt what they are going to do and get him in shape and run the test perfectly. it's straight out no BS. Michael is helping Kitt restore his convidence. he is not going to let Kitt just sit around and be depressed so to speak. as the Head Teach guy pointed out Kitt was in layman's terms "Hurt" and he doesn't want to be hurt again.. this was a great show.
In this episode, Kit teaches history to a young kid skipping class. This reminded me of Bill and Ted and also back to the future when Kit calls the kid chicken.
i did too. its amazing how this show touched us all as little children. we felt sad and hurt seeing this. actually i stopped this at 2 minutes in because i still dont want to see him hit those cones, which shows us hes still not 100%...
Except season one. Season 2 on yes. Goliath. The rocket from the drone in season 3 the acid pit in junkyard dog and the juggernaut in 4. Poor Kitt was probably like really Michael how much more of this do I have to take?
Ahhhh the good ol 80s proud to say I was born that decade n can't say the same for most cars or shows from the 80s but the trans am and Knightrider were some of the best ones out there
You can forgive kITT this one big time because he was hurt like nothing else that had happened to him. Considering all the incredible things kITT was able to do. Really wish the series didn't finish.
@@kathrynannwattsfabofkitt I thought it ended due to the show's groping for new episode ideas and David had other ventures going on (singing, etc.) and he'd lost interest in continuing the role. After 1983 I stopped watching it...I only watched it for KITT.
I remember going to Universal Studios when they featured KITT after watching these episodes. Seeing the many versions of the car and videos of their special effects, I remember watching it all and thinking, that's not my KITT. My KITT is somewhere, but not here. The cars there had no soul.
Random fact. William Daniels (the voice of KITT, 94 and still going btw) only agreed to the show if the mechanic who worked on him could be named after his wife. That's why she is called Bonnie after Bonnie Bartlett.
@@develynseether4426 oh wow I didn't know that. I didn't know that Mr Daniels voiced Kitt till he starred in Boy Meets World and I heard him and im like.. wait a minute is that Kitt? Sure enough lol
At this point it's more of a psychological issue than any computer or mechanical one. Though it's funny seeing KITT blowing out fire like he just drive-thru ordered Taco Bell, lol
Michael in this episode: *"you should never fear KITT, that's not a life worth living"* Michael in the Scent of Roses: *"yeah bye I'm scared of being killed everything I told KITT IS bogus I'm a hypocrite I know bye lol"*
I love kitt but at the last part his in pain when his fire came on and that was so bad i can feel kitt pain how bad that hurts but thank god Michael was there to fix that problem with kitt❤
I love this show, and seeing it as a kid it was sooo awesome but let me say mind out: for an (supposedly) indestructible car KITT sure got destroyed and damaged easily. When i saw him being dipped to the acid I thought - surely he has some turboboosters or some microjam to prevent him from beind dipped. But he got dipped and I was sad and pissed at the same time. It was kind of a let down, i felt he could have escaped somehow. Rocket boosters, harpoon and winch maybe? And that's not the only episode, where i felt that. He had been tampered with and whatever multiple times. For an top secret project he had surprisingly bad security for one- like not noticing "Bonnie" doing harmful things or whatever it might have been in a particular episodes. And molecular shell composition being stolen... list goes on and on. I realize those were plot requirements. Obviously if KITT had been indestructible, then there would have been no danger of him destroyed in many episodes. He would have TuboBoosted straight through Goliath and others just like that. But that for one would't have worked well now wouldn't it.
Michael weakly says "Yeaaaaaaaaah..ya look great out there buddy...."...Michael was obviously lying to KITT by the tone of is voice! He Didn't want to upset KITT by telling him "not so good" which was the truth....
Not gonna lie, this episode confused me. For a number of reasons... After his acid dip, there was NOTHING left but a shell. Nothing at all. There was nothing to start over with. Nothing left inside of the car even resembled KITT. It also happened in the middle of a season. Typically, when something this catastrophic would happen to KITT, it was a season opener. A better budget could have been used had it been a season opener. But, regardless, Junk Yard Dog was still a great episode and one of my Top 10 favorite episodes of KR.
Love how they handled Dr. Von Vorman here, instead of making a stereotypical, coldhearted and uncaring scientist. They made him into caring and empathetic character. He may say some harsh things about KITT and being strict, but not to be mean but to be honest and convey the gravity of the situation and acts out of compassion, despite his stoic, clinical, and professional demeanor would suggest.

They made the mistake of using what would later become Tesla self-driving technology. Luckily they switched back to Knight Industries tech and KITT was back to his old self.
Total missed opportunity for Tesla to resurrect a KITT Trans Am.
It seems like when i see this i get a depressed feeling until Michael turns it around and saves his best pal KITT then a good feeling arouses .
The moment Michael took command and Bonnie joined him was highly underrated!!!!
Check out knight rider historians they have a bunch of information
this is not only an episode of knight rider, thia is also to show how hard the process of change can be for a person, kitt is that person.
When i first saw when I was a young I saw kITT like this my heart went out to him.
Season 3 .... Knightrider! Love it. 😍👍
I was correct with "16" and "Helena." KITT lost me after that. LOL
I love that KITT asked Michael to be at his test run. It was nice Michael said he wouldn't miss it for the world, after all he let KITT die in a vat of acid.
I remember this episode. I likes the KITT TV Show when I was a kid very much. 😃🙏👍
the Relationship with Michael and Kitt is special it goes beyond a man and a computer.....they are true friends.
KITT is a LIFETIME FRIEND and one of the Cutest
In this episode, Kit teaches history to a young kid skipping class. This reminded me of Bill and Ted and also back to the future when Kit calls the kid chicken.
One of my childhood hero .
I felt really sorry for KITT.
Same Mr. Knight. Same
i did too. its amazing how this show touched us all as little children. we felt sad and hurt seeing this. actually i stopped this at 2 minutes in because i still dont want to see him hit those cones, which shows us hes still not 100%...
Hey Mr Knight why you here?
@@madmaxxxthen30-rwofficialm23 yeah
I have all four seasons on Blu-Ray. Watching it now it seems like every season someone tries to destroy KITT.
I had read somewhere that it was actually the case, but it was a "running joke" or something to that effect.
Then he's back better then ever.
Except season one. Season 2 on yes. Goliath. The rocket from the drone in season 3 the acid pit in junkyard dog and the juggernaut in 4. Poor Kitt was probably like really Michael how much more of this do I have to take?
Ahhhh the good ol 80s proud to say I was born that decade n can't say the same for most cars or shows from the 80s but the trans am and Knightrider were some of the best ones out there
KITT: Maybe they should tow me back to...
You can forgive kITT this one big time because he was hurt like nothing else that had happened to him. Considering all the incredible things kITT was able to do. Really wish the series didn't finish.
Well, you can thank NBC for that because they kept moving the series from timeslot to timeslot and that's what killed the ratings for Knight Rider.
@@kathrynannwattsfabofkitt I thought it ended due to the show's groping for new episode ideas and David had other ventures going on (singing, etc.) and he'd lost interest in continuing the role. After 1983 I stopped watching it...I only watched it for KITT.
How many great lessons that series taught us back in the '80s regarding AI!
KITT: Can Michael Jackson moonwalk?
Lucas Martínez Parra ok that’s just funny 😂😂
Can you hear in 1:03 is say michael jackson
@@keairalynmolson8396 😂😂😂
That was a good comeback, KITT!
I remember that, "TARAAAH" phrase when he uttered it on his first test run, this episode is such a memory in my head.
"I have been poked, prodded and violated" It sounds like KITT would have been in jail or something.
Michael and KITT are my heroes ❤️
Therapist: "White KITT doesn't exist, he can't hurt you"
White KITT:
Now that's interesting....if Kitt is black with a red scanner, why shouldn't Karr be white with a green scanner?🤔
Kitt is married to Mrs Isiah Edwards?
@@justina249 yes indeedy. Daniels and Bartlett also played on-screen husband and wife in St. Elsewhere.
My favourite episode of all four seasons without a doubt.
This is in the top 5 episodes easily.
Great stuff
" Acording to my calculations". My first intellectual phrase. The first time I consider college.
Michael mentions to KITT his experience he had before they met shot in the face to help KITT before going after Byrock
i have always loved the night rider theme song
Michael in this episode: *"you should never fear KITT, that's not a life worth living"*
Michael in the Scent of Roses: *"yeah bye I'm scared of being killed everything I told KITT IS bogus I'm a hypocrite I know bye lol"*
KITT looks like a ghost with the white paint.
I love kitt but at the last part his in pain when his fire came on and that was so bad i can feel kitt pain how bad that hurts but thank god Michael was there to fix that problem with kitt❤
I like how an obviously serious mechanical issue causing a fireball is pooh-poohed by Michael as KITT just needing to get in shape.
Yes, a fire right by the fuel tank is usually an issue, lol. Could be a tad dangerous.
The driver in the car had a little too much to drink. Its not KITT's fault. He wan in manuel mode.
Kitt's explosive fart there at the end 🤣👌
"KITT is not just a machine, he's family! You don't give up on family!"
KITT: A little rusty, but not bad. Eh, Michael?
Michael weakly says "Yeaaaaaaaaah..ya look great out there buddy...."...Michael was obviously lying to KITT by the tone of is voice! He Didn't want to upset KITT by telling him "not so good" which was the truth....
Damm Bonnie is 10/10 especially by today's standards of fake everything
Amen brotha!
Or a cliffhanger
This is good character development for kitt and Micheal..
Sorry buddy its Michael not Micheal 😂
"Maybe they should tow me"
A tow truck would have been a huge insult to the old KITT
Michael knew kitt better than the guys that built him if Wilton knight had been alive he would have told them get kitt right
Alexa should have had kitt's voice.
Chilly day, you can see vapor coming out of their mouths.
Those rope lights show just how serious this repair was
2:44 Good thing we replaced the school children with cones.
I brought the knightrider boxset a few years ago......i only just watched it all this year! 2022. 😉👍
So… nobody’s going to talk about how sick Kitt actually looks in all white..?
Sick sick? Or wicked sick?
@@Jude300c wicked lmao
@NightRaven 630 I’ve seen a few, they look really nice ngl. Just hard to find. You’ll mostly find them with white being the dominant color and black or not on the side
Between the General Lee and KITT, I learned to humanize cars and see them other than machines. lol
