Yes, it really is a tragic story all round. What good did fame do Marilyn? We all took a piece of her, and her cruel neglect through childhood meant she had nothing left for herself. God bless her and her poor mother Gladys. I have no doubt they both suffered terribly.
1:12 the resemblance is there. But Norma Jean really looked like her father, Stanley Gifford. Her mother always looks pinched and can't smile. Though he treated her cruelly, Gifford had the facial structure and big warm smile that we know in MM. There are at least two photos of him online. His genes happened to mix beautifully with Gladys Monroe's. Their kid, whom we all know and love, did great things. And all by herself.
This is like wiping the dust off an old photo album and stepping into history. So very sad given the relationship with her Mother. Moving Slideshow thankyou
I think her mom was heart broken. Because men left her and she needed them. she felt betrayed and abandoned and worthless defeated bye life. She wasnt a mean person just crushed. This wears on you when you need help. Poor lady.
2:26 Haunting to see this, Marilyn has her mother's bone structure and is so like her but this picture reveals she has her mother's exact same ears. I notice it from the terrible autopsy photo that was taken of Marilyn's face in profile, her skin mottled, her hair swept back from her face and her ear exposed. It is identical to her mother's ear in this picture. Quite uncanny - and brings home the tragedy that unlike her mother, Marilyn would never see old age. I wonder how often the media tried to get pictures and interviews with Gladys? She died in 1984, and interest in her daughter was fierce from her death in 1962 to her mother's death. I wonder how bad her mother's mental illness was - did she even realise her late daughter was a legendary movie star? No doubt she was protected from press attention and prying eyes as a vulnerable old lady. If only she could have loved Marilyn unconditionally and given her the secure home life she missed out on. Her cruelty and neglect - regardless that it was unintentional - scarred Marilyn for life, and is no doubt the reason she lived only half of her life.
Her skin looks beautiful.. I heard she told someone her daughter was Marilyn Monroe they laughed at her and she was told she was crazy! I'm glad she knew the truth. Bless them. 💕🙏💕
wow! I did not know many of those pics! great! she seemed to be a very sensitive and beautiful woman. That's where MM got her artistic talent from.. probably.
Something about Princess Diana always reminded me of Marilyn. Both died tragically at the same age full of conspiracy theories. Marilyn’s Mum also reminds me a bit of Diana’s Mum.so sad.
They were also both raised without their mother. Princess Diana's mother left during her divorce and Marilyn Monroe's mom was being treated in a mental facility.
I wonder if the drugs today could have made Her stable mentally.? The poor dear really suffered, and must have been really hard for Marilyn to see her in such a state.
marilyn tried several times to connect with her mom but she wasn't all there, there was a history of mental illness in the family. and after a while marilyn gave up as her mother became more distant, marilyn did financially take care of her.
That's totally wrong.. She spent time with her Mother throughout her childhood and even after she became famous she would visit Her Mother.. But due to Her Mothers illness Her Mother couldn't give her the care she really needed so she was bounced from foster care and homes.. But saying she never saw her mother is a lie
@@barbarawebb7185 I can’t imagine the pain. Poor woman. I bet she suffered horrible in his life and could help herself of the worst mental illness out there: squizophrenia.
Incredible photos. Gladys did not get a fair shake. It makes me tremendously sad. I wish Marilyn had reached out to her mother. Gladys and her life is such a tragedy.
On acoustic guitar in River of No Return---Marilyn Monroe's percussives, suggest the beating heart in the lyrics. It is around a minute into the song: Down in the Meadow.
You can see the resemblance here but if you look up her real father you definitely can see a very good likeness. The same shaped face and baby features.
No one is sure who he was. The guy she thought it could possibly be refused to talk to her when she did some looking ,in her 20's. His name was Stanley Gifford & he was a married man when Marilyn was born.
Fascinating to see these family photos, some of which I've seen before. One or two seem to show Gladys's sister, they are so alike; Marilyn's aunt therefore. MM always feared she too would end her days in an asylum. She never got there and did not even reach 40.
It is odd or telling that Gladys had her arms liked in one of the pictures with her girlfriend but is not showing affection to baby Norma Jeane standing in front of her with the friend’s child.
Born Gladys Pearl Monroe, daughter of a mother Della Hogan and a father of Scots ancestry, Gladys was mostly Anglo American, but also Irish Scots and Welsh, with an Owen forebearer. While she listed her first husband, Norwegian American Edward Martin Mortenson, on Marilyn's birth certificate as the father, she told Marilyn as an adult that Marilyn's real biological father was Charles Stanley Gifford. While Gifford's ancestry includes Irish and French genes, his pedigree goes back to the 1620 Mayflower passenger John Alden (a near great grandfather of second US President John Adams), and 1630s Great Migration English settlers in Massachusetts such as John Peabody and Isabella Harper (also my ancestors), whose descendants include the Peabody sisters of Salem, Endicott Peabody, Orson Welles and Peter Lawford~~but apparently Marilyn and Peter were not aware of their 8th or so cousinship). ethnicelebs.com/marilyn-monroe. A pity that Marilyn, not knowing her patrilineage, supposed herself just an illegitimate foster and orphanage child.
The best surmise is Charles Stanley Gifford, Gladys's supervisor at the Hollywood studio where she worked. He did look like Clark Gable, whom Marilyn as a young adult thought might be her father.
0:47 is that the whole family? mother, father and sister? (not sure of the 3rd person) BTW !!! what ever happend to her after Norma Jean became Marilyn Monroe?
Her mother had schizophrenia spent 90% of adult life in a mental health facility that Marilyn paid for . No one was sure who her father was. The married man it could possibly have been refused to speak to Marilyn when she looked him up in her 20's. He was called Gifford. (Can't remember first name).
The family group photo at 0:43 looks about 1929 to 1930, so the little girl may be Norma Jeane at age 3 to 4. My guess is that the hatted lady on the right is Gladys. In the 1940s, Gladys was institutionalized.
It 's the softness and fragility of mum and daughter which is so recognizable...
Poor Gladys and poor Norma. :(
Sad, wistful eyes....
This whole thing is pitiful. This woman couldn’t help how she was. She couldn’t help being sick. At least she did try
Yes, it really is a tragic story all round. What good did fame do Marilyn? We all took a piece of her, and her cruel neglect through childhood meant she had nothing left for herself. God bless her and her poor mother Gladys. I have no doubt they both suffered terribly.
She was very pretty...Marilyn clearly took her looks from her beautiful mom....you can see the resemblence.

Both Marilyn and her sister Bernice looked like her.
No mistaking that she was Norma Jean/Marilyn's mother!
I think her mom was heart broken. Because men left her and she needed them. she felt betrayed and abandoned and worthless defeated bye life. She wasnt a mean person just crushed. This wears on you when you need help. Poor lady.

Your observations, commentary, are truly CREEPY. Gladys gave birth to her for fuck sake, of course, there would likely be some physical resemblance.
Mom very attractive. Norma Jean did good taking care of her mom.thank you great video.
Her mum was pretty, you can see the resemblance.
Her story is a sad one.
OMG I never knew there was a half brother. I just looked him up. Died at 15 from tuberculosis of the bone or kidney. UGH...what a horrible life!..
she really had her mothers eyes
Especially at 0:20 my favorite photo of her
Oh..My..God....Thank you so much.
Gladys at 13 years old! OMG!
Patricia Ann Holbert you can see Marilyn's shy smile in that pose.
I love old photos and the history attached to them
Her mom was just as beautiful ...looks so kind
You can definitely see the resemblance. The young Gladys. Same cheeks, lips, and face structure
Her skin looks beautiful.. I heard she told someone her daughter was Marilyn Monroe they laughed at her and she was told she was crazy! I'm glad she knew the truth. Bless them. 💕🙏💕
The photographs at .26 And .31 Her Mom Looks Like Marlene Dietrich.
she was such a beautiful woman, so soft and delicate...
see the resemblance between Gladys & Marilyn/thanks for uploading these👍👍
wow! I did not know many of those pics! great! she seemed to be a very sensitive and beautiful woman. That's where MM got her artistic talent from.. probably.
Gladys worked for a Hollywood film studio editing department as a filmstrip cutter.

Yes I've noted the similarities between the two women; the same age of death (36) for instance.
I wonder if the drugs today could have made Her stable mentally.? The poor dear really suffered, and must have been really hard for Marilyn to see her in such a state.
She was beautiful and elegant looking somehow like a gazelle ❤️
Mother was mentally ill, causing Marilyn much harm in childhood and throughout her life. Very sad ❤️
You can see Marilyn in her face.
A big resemblance of her mom in so many ways.
marilyn tried several times to connect with her mom but she wasn't all there, there was a history of mental illness in the family. and after a while marilyn gave up as her mother became more distant, marilyn did financially take care of her.

Gladys’ first husband took her older two kids away from her and fled back East. Very heartbreaking for her.
@@CathyD1976 tomitstube did not, in her comment, say that Marilyn "never saw her mother."

Marilyn had a lovely, softly melodious singing voice.
"Hope they"ve reunited @ Higher Consciousness & are enveloped in Love Everlasting w/family/friends so deserved."♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
she born in my city! in México
I can see the resemblance but put Stanley Gifford into Google or on UA-cam and you can see her in him too.
A little bit but not as much as with Gladys.
Marilyn has her eyes. Nice to see how women dressed modestly back then. And not like harlots like today. ..well except for the S T A r s .
She was beautiful ans Deeply Human as marilyn
Gladys was very pretty. I’ve always wondered why she was so ill.
You can see the resemblance here but if you look up her real father you definitely can see a very good likeness. The same shaped face and baby features.
No one knows who her father is though. Everything is speculation
Stanley Gifford
Her daughter Berniece is still alive, just turned 100 y.o........
Que triste es la vida😢
She looked so sad
Wow I believe this is how Marilyn would have looked if she had lived long enough to age.
I think maybe Marilyn looked more like her father...would be interesting to see a picture of him.
No one is sure who he was. The guy she thought it could possibly be refused to talk to her when she did some looking ,in her 20's. His name was Stanley Gifford & he was a married man when Marilyn was born.
Someone said there are 2 pictures of him on UA-cam xx
The 3rd picture she really looks like Marilyn
She was an elegant lady ....

She looked so like her mum .
UA-cam is incredible ! how did you get this photos? thank you
The eyes and mouth look like Norma Jean/ Marilyn Monroe
Bless her, she was poisoned by the chemicals in film cutting. She most likely had acute porphyria and so did Norma Jean.
It is odd or telling that Gladys had her arms liked in one of the pictures with her girlfriend but is not showing affection to baby Norma Jeane standing in front of her with the friend’s child.
Barbara Hock - that doesn’t mean anything, what a silly comment
Please write down the name of each of all, so we can understand who is this!! Thanks to uploader.

Gladys Pearl "Monroe" Baker Mortenson Ely
Beautiful lady
She outlived her daughter? Talk about destiny children.
As did Marilyn's biological father Charles Stanley Gifford, who died in 1965, three years after she.
thank you
❤
Im from the same hometown
Did they ever know who marilyn monroes father was.
C. Stanley Gifford. There is only one photo of him that I have seen.
It was thought to be a married man, last name Gifford. He refused to talk to Marilyn when she tracked him down, in her 20's.
The best surmise is Charles Stanley Gifford, Gladys's supervisor at the Hollywood studio where she worked. He did look like Clark Gable, whom Marilyn as a young adult thought might be her father.
