Camper Stabilizer - Stop That Shake Rattle and Roll

- #camperstabilizer #rvstabilizer #trailerstablizer Stabilizing your 5th wheel need not be a chore. We've found two devices that makes it super easy to stop the bouncing that can occur in the front of the 5th wheel as well as that forward movement from around the camper's tires and axles.
We have been using a Fastjack King Pin Stabilizer for several years. You'll see in the video, the unit still looks brand new. There are several different types of king pin stabilizers available. We found the FastJack lives up to its name. Regardless, if you've parked on a surface that's not level or has large gravel, the FastJack is simple to adjust in minutes to match the surface and stabilize the front of the 5th wheel.
Even with the 5th wheel king pin stabilizer and along with the front jacks and rear stabilizer, there can still be some forward and backward movement that results from the camper wheels and axle. Our solution was the Equal-i-zer Wheel Chocks. One note, you must have dual or triple axles under your camper for this system to work. Also, this is not for 5th wheels only. Any camper with multiple axles can benefit from the Equal-i-zer Wheel Chocks. After a one time configuration to set the length of the unit, these wheel chocks can be set in place in minutes. We found adding pressure to the tires and axles can reduce that forward movement often felt when there's brisk activity inside the camper.

This guy knows his stuff. Thank you sir!
Thanks a bunch. Glad you found the video helpful.
Thank you! We’ve been living in our 5th wheel for 4 years and I just thought that movement was something you had to live with!
Glad to help. We bought new levelers and had to change the chocks. We purchased X Chocks recently. These add stability to remove the rocking. ua-cam.com/video/ifTC1T9t_f0/v-deo.html. Between the chocks and the front stabilizer, both make a big difference.
Have a Jayco 5th wheel on order and because of your excellent video I will be buying one of these! Thank you!
Thanks Bud. Using ours now. Makes a big difference.
Jerry Thank You for the video, I have been following you as I am a new RVing and I know nothing. I have learned a lot from your videos. Again thank you
Hi Penny. Thanks and glad you found our channel. We recently made a change to our wheel chocks since this video was made. You may find this one helpful. ua-cam.com/video/ifTC1T9t_f0/v-deo.html
I have the same king pin stabilizer and love it and no problems in over 3 years.
Same here. Good stuff.
Even though I’ve got a 40ft motorhome, I sure love all of your videos!
Thanks so much Bill. We'll be adding some travel and places to go later this month. Jerry...
Great idea on the wheel chocks! Have not seen those and will put that on my list if we do go the fifth wheel route. Decisions, decisions! Thanks for the informative video on those two items.
Thanks Joe. And yes, the decisions never end :)
Thanks for the video. Have the same king ping stabilizer myself. Definitely a makes a difference. Glad you did the detail on the mechanism. I didn't get the easy extraction at first.
Thanks Norman. It's a good system and makes a difference.
Great ideas and very informative video. Thanks for moving the camera around to get the close up shots so we could actually see how the devices work. We have the screw type king pin stabilizer, but not the inside wheel chocks. The king pin stabilizer helps a lot, but we may need to try something for the wheels to improve it even further. I really enjoy all your videos.
Thanks Rick. Glad you found the video informative. I was really surprised how well the wheel chocks worked.
Greetings from Germany. Great video. Thank u.👍🏼
Great to hear from you. So glad you enjoyed the video.
Very clarifying 👍🏽 thanks
Thanks for watching.
Man... The wheel stabilizers where awesome. We just sold our house to move into a 5'er. I bought some screw type wheel chocks. When I saw you set yours, I immediately told the wife we are getting some. Those things look easy to set. I have also been looking at the king pin stand. Sounds like it really does the job intended.
Hi Ben. They have worked like a champ for us. Big difference taking a good amount of the shake out of the 5th wheel, especially when one of us runs up or down the steps to the bedroom.
Thanks for the video! Such helpful information. We just bought a fifth wheel and was wondering how to stabilizer it better. I will be buying the products you mentioned in the video.
Thanks. Safe travels.
Great video. Thank you Sir.
Thanks
Great video.
Thanks
I’ve had JT Strong Arms on a 40’ 5th wheel that will take all the sway and bounce out of your camper and they stay right on your camper going down the road so you don’t sacrifice any storage space! As far as the wheel chocks I don’t think they help with stability but would help from rolling as long as you not on 2 different height blocks. Great video run down
Thanks much. The Strong Arms are nice units. The chocks put positive pressure and work. But, I would have an issue occasionally if I put pads under the tires on one side to level. I found these X Chocks ua-cam.com/video/ifTC1T9t_f0/v-deo.html. These things are the trick.
Great video
Thanks Jose
Just subscribed thanks for the video
Thanks Marco. Glad you found the video helpful.
than you. your so clear ✌
Thanks Robert.
Thank you sir, I do have some Amazon gift card money so I will be ordering this one.
Just bought our cougar first fifth wheel. Can’t wait to try both these products. To not feel the Rv move would be great
They work. You can find the links for these on our accessories page at iLoveRVlife.com/rv-accessories
Nice video sir, however, if one wants to permanently stabilize your 5th wheel, you need to buy a Steadyfast system. It will take 95% of the shake/wobble,etc. out of your trailer. I installed one on my 5er and the difference is amazing. Once installed, it takes 45 seconds to set up, no hauling wheel chocks, king pins out, etc. Also, no need the store those extra pieces either. Check it out, you will not be disappointed.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll look into the system. Maybe a video I. The near future.
Thank you sir for another great video, I have wonder about the king pin stabilizer because I have heard that they work and some say that they don't work I guess that it all depend. I bought my first 5th wheel and have the auto leveler I also have the x-chock for the tires so if I get the king pin stabilizer it will take some more movement out.
Still getting views ... awesome! Just purchased my first 5th wheel, mid-life crisis time LOL, so thank you for the tips and the links to products!!
Thanks for watching. Great to hear this was helpful. Safe travels.
I would think that the smaller the RV the more it will shake and the more you would need that kingpin stabilizer. I’m getting one for my 5th wheel when it arrives.
Could be. There’s little to know support up front. Does a good job keeping the movement in check.
WOW!! Very good kept wondern about tht/Rv shakn? I asked a tech about this gadget...pretty much said don't worry about, don't really need it! Hhm..thnks really helped me alot. I'm very new @ this.🤪😉
Norma, most of the techs don’t travel in an RV. Our 5th wheel pin stabilizer makes a big difference. They’re not expensive or difficult to set up. Nice eliminating that vibration when going up the steps and walking around the bedroom.
I just watched another review who used voltmeter app on his phone and it showed the difference of side to side and front to back movement. I’m sold.
Maybe a level app?
Is there an attachment to convert the king pin to a gooseneck ball? I need the height of this tripod but I have an Anderson aluminum hitch that has a ball connection.
Love your videos.
Dennis. You may be better served with this hitch amzn.to/2oX876W
Thank you for your video. Do you think that this would help with the shaking that happens when our washer is spinning? The whole trailer shakes when we are doing laundry.
Maybe some. With the washer, you'll feel the vibration in the frame.
We have an Anderson Gooseneck hitch that uses a ball funnel on the 5th wheel. do you know if this company makes a stabilizer that would have a ball on the top or some sort of adapter that would work with the funnel?
Hi Larry. Check out this type amzn.to/33XQSDc This should give that extra stability.
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a tripod, so who make your what kind is it? Thank you for your reply.
I've had very good success using the FastJack King Pin Stabilizer. You can find at amzn.to/2uzY3Tp. Have been using for several years and even the 5th wheel next to me is using the same model. Jerry....
Jerry it has been 4 years do you still use the king pin tripod on you new camper?
I did on the Gateway. That midsized 5th wheel moved a bunch. The Montana has 6 point hydraulic leveling and the heavy duty I-frame and has almost zero movement.
What is the difference other than a little time on the wheel stabilizer in this video and the x chock video? Which is better in your opinion?
Really depends on the stabilizer and frame in your 5th wheel. If you don’t have a I-frame or hydraulic stabilizers, suggest a kingpin tripod. It will take out the bounce.
Hello, RV newbie here. How much of a “no no” is it to leave your 5th wheel hooked to the tow vehicle while camping? While using front and rear stabilizing jacks that are OEM to the 5th wheel camper? Does this add to stability if you don’t intend to use your tow vehicle to go anywhere?
Hi Lucas. It doesn’t hurt. We do this often for overnights to make a quick exit the next day. Just remember to unplug from the truck so you don’t run the truck battery down.
@@iLoveRVlife I've heard that having your RV plugged into the truck while on shore power can damage the truck charging system. I always unplug the truck before plugging into shore power, or turning on the generator.
Hi Terry. There is some 12V DC back feed that can come from the the 7 point plug. I’ve never done this. May depend more on the vehicle and the potential of over charging. On the other hand, don’t pull in for an overnight where’s there’s no shore power and leave the 7 point plug attached. You may wake up the next morning with a dead truck battery.
How do they compare to the xchocks for stability? Xchocks are a pain to get in
I use both the xchocks and pin stabilizer if we’re going to be somewhere for a couple weeks or more. Usually add the xchocks before we run the slides out. Saves the knees. We don’t have hydraulic stablilizers, just electric jack in front and back. Using both stops all the wiggle especially when someone is running up and down the steps to the bed or bathroom.
Those use the same mechanism as truck bed dividers. Interesting.
Very similar. Makes it easy to set up when the ground is uneven.
Unfortunately the wheel chocks won’t work if you’re using leveling blocks under the tires.
True Mike. They come with a chock to stabilize the levelers. I also use a set of the Harbor Freight large rubber chocks on the other side for an extra safety measure. I'll also have a video this Saturday on chocks you may find interesting.
He has another video out with the X-chock. They will work with leveling blocks. Good video. Check it out.
do you use them on both sides?
I do. Each wheel is free and needs to locked in to stop the shake.
Jerry! We love your videos!
Only problem I can find with the wheel chocks... If your wheels aren't on the ground they won't work.
Thanks Thomas. So true. But, if the wheels are in the air hopefully it's a bit more stable.
@@iLoveRVlife like with a travel trailer, might be up on blocks, or leveling chocks. On another note... My girlfriend always says "we need some Jerry". We really love your videos. We are going to eastbank this year. After watching your video. Keep up the good work!
Thanks a bunch. Eastbank is really something. Have fun.
Hello, how tall are your boxes under your front legs??
The 5th wheel in this video is on a forward slope. These pads are 10”.
Thank you,
What brand trip pod is that?
Hi Jeremy. It’s a FastJack amzn.to/3zy1dng. This thing has been used and abused for the past 6 years and still works great. Once or twice a year a little spray lube on the legs and gears and it just keeps working.
@@iLoveRVlife we just got our 1st 5th wheel and am so on the fence about installing a steadyfast system or tripod. Always spending money haha. I stopped using my xchocks with my TT but will have to try on 5th wheel.
If I was to purchase on item to add stability, it would be a pin jack. Makes a difference on the longer 5th wheels.
My wife tells me that if I don't sell my motorcycle, there will no longer be any monkey business going on in our 5th wheel bedroom, so shaking and rolling issues will be gone. Hmmm. I dunno :(
The purpose of the lock is to keep someone from stealing your trailer. It acts like a king pin lock.
Enough with the product reviews. Your costing me a fortune. LOL
Oh no!!! Thanks for viewing and so glad you found the reviews useful. And then, there's wine tours :)
no way your 200 lbs
