This convinced me on the linotte kit. Other videos on UA-cam recorded with their cellphone on badly tuned nerdy had me worried at first

finally a demo video that is not recorded on a cheap phone mic and you can actually hear the low strings 😄
Thanks a lot for the video, great build and play!!

Can you tell me what kind of strings you used and what kinds of mutes? I want mine to sound like this.

Hey, I used the strings supplied in the kit I ordered from Jaap and Fay on their website. I dont't know which brand etc. they are, but there is a spreadsheet with different string options available in the NG Builders Facebook Group: facebook.com/groups/nerdygurdybuilders/permalink/7407053322743213

Awesome! Thank you for posting this, I was wondering how this instrument would sound once I order it! Any tips for building it? I'm a little bit nervous to get started with it.
Also, how difficult was it to prepare the wheel and strings (with cotton and rosin)?
Ive never done any sort of woodworking before!

Hey, I also have no significant woodworking experience, and while would consider myself handy, this was the first project that involved mainly woodglue. So this was the biggest challenge for me, keeping the pieces lined up and pressing them together at the same time. Use a lot of clamps, I at first got only 10 small clamps and two larger ones, but especially for the sides a lot of large clamps holding in different directionscan be helpful. So in the end i had 6 large and 14 small ones, but if I had to do it again I would probably use even more.
Regarding the cotton: if you have the amount of a small down feather or even less, you have enough, especially for the smaller strings. I like to use a bit of Isopropyl Alcohol on a small rag to pick up some rosin and apply it onto the wheel. Don't use too much, it will sound scratchy, but you have to apply it regularly as it rubs off after some time and the sound becomes thin and weak.

Be careful with the way you hold the crank; you will hurt your wrist

Thanks, this was within the first few days of playing, I have changed my cranking technique since then.
