Als iemand die zeer graag een hurdy gurdy wil leren spelen is deze video ENORM gewaardeerd! Dank voor de tijd en moeite die hebt genomen om deze video te maken.
2:49 ... "... really bad...I'm not going to be covering them" Hear that, Bill Mehess?! You dodged a bullet! Huzzah for Nerdy Gurdy!! Huzzah for Robert Mandel!! It's too bad there really are no consistent builders in the USA since the Hackmans and Mel Dorries retired 😥 Nice roundup of current good builders!!!
They all look and more importantly sound amazing. I'd known of this instrument for years but I didn't realize it was so expressive. The sound is personal preference of course but I do like the Philippe Mousnier designs. I've got about as much musical ability total as most folk would have in their little finger but I'm tempted.
As someone who'd never even heard of a...Hurdy..Gurdy before BDGs video (Though I had definitely heard A hurdy gurdy before), this was extremely interesting and informative. Just a note, the audio was quite quiet on this one ;)
thank you!! And yeah, I am still figuring out the perfect audio settings. I have the audio edited for me for my music videos, so it is a learning process. Cheers!
I was recommended your channel because of your BDG video, but stayed because of the way you pronounce Hurdy Gurdy. 😄 And the excellent informative content of course.
Nice video! Btw, my gurdy is a Encanta by Geralf Grems. Its a rather small instrument but a very strong one. People are always impressed, that this little gurdy has such a power. I can recomment it.
Thank you! I posted this to my Facebook page as I often have people asking me about "beginner" hurdy gurdies and it never hurts to have another good opinion on the subject. :)
My furst gurdy is from a luthier in the US. Was not too expensive and allowed me to make sure that the gurdy is something I want to learn. Now have a Saphonia ($5000.00 +)on order from MM instruments and seriously looking foward to it.
I think it would be helpful to explain the various configurations and features to look for, for example: how many chanterelles, bourdons, dogs, etc and what they do! Also, the tunings, and added features such as sympathetic strings and key changers. Little demonstrations of what the sounds are with one, two or more chanterelles.
Great valuable video thank for making the efforts to get al the info in sight. I have had the Hurdy Gurdy on my scope for years and now feel more drawn to it then before. I am a multi instrumentalist and music educator for years now so i feel i will pick up the Gurdy playing feel quickly. Indeed the main question you just answered : where would a beginner buy a proper one. Thank you for the efforts made to creat this video i will be doing some home work for now :-) Kind healthy regards from the Dutch guy in Finland, Bastiaan Anthonie Baaij / aka Manupeo Now i
Here's an easy way to raise your audio levels, if you have already maxed out your audio volume in your video editor. Unlink the audio track from the image track, if they are linked. Then you can copy the audio track and create multiple vertical stacks of this audio track. Or else output an "audio only" track, then pull that track into your timeline, and stack vertically. Then you can ouput and re-load this so that it becomes a file that can be easily heard by all. I have the volume turned up all the way on two computers and can barely hear it. The fix is easy....
You are comparing apples to oranges. The price of €300 mentioned in the video is for the old Nerdy Gurdy V6 kit, that you'd have to build yourself. What you are talking about at €800 is the pre-build Linotte model, which is not only the newest model under the Nerdy Gurdy brand but obviously a pre-build, ready-to-play instrument is going to cost more than a kit. What you should be comparing the price to is the Nerdy Gurdy Basic Kit, currently priced at €320. An updated model from the one mentioned in the video, but the predecessor to the Linotte. I think a price increase of only €20 over 3 (very fiscally challenging) years AND you get a better model for it is very reasonable. Most others mentioned on this list got a lot pricier over the same time period.

Why is BDG's video exactly where I came from?
I was recommended your channel because of your BDG video, but stayed because of the way you pronounce Hurdy Gurdy. 😄 And the excellent informative content of course.
Thank you! 😃
Was very excited to find this video. I am very curious about buying my first one. Very, very helpful. Thank you from Maine, United States.

Well I'm subscribed for sure now. Still don't know what to do but the hurdy-gurdy seems awesome!

Thank you!! I am currently looking to obtain my first HG and it is overwhelming. Your advise is much appreciated!!!
I am in USA, i brought Altarwinds, from Oregon, George has been making gurdies for over 20 years... i just ordered my second gurdy- the full monty...
I would like to buy a quality Hurdy. Where would you recommend to buy in the USA?

Very nice, thanks for sharing your thoughts 👏
Just ordered from Marco, he's a great guy. Super looking forward to getting my gurdy 🖤

Thanks this was informative!
Thank you
This was super helpful thanks :)
Do you know what's up with Philippe Mousnier? His website is down and I can't find any info about a shop online
can confirm: my kerbouef is SUPER powerful and punchy LOL
Thank you very much for the info. I've fixed the volume in your video so if you can tell me where to send it I'd be happy to do so. Regards Pierre
lol, can you imagine ordering something and then having it arrive seven years later?
Yeah, that is... intense... But it is the most extreme waiting list I have heard of. Most are in the 18 months to 2 years area.
Does the website "Etsy" have any good sellers?!
Would the nerdy gurdy work for playing music similar to reverse dance by Andrey Vinogradov?
Ohhh, maybe i can get one 3D printed, i've wanted one for a while, but i can't let myself have hope, gahahaha
Do it! 😃
You should also show their top of the line, not just the cheapest model... to show the range.
I would like to add Slavik Osipov to the list and can second the great quality of Mousnier´s instruments, I play an Alto olive myself :)
It's been, like, 8 years. I'm sick of telling myself that I'll never be able to buy one. I'll scrape the money together to finally buy one.

You are saving my wallet
Volume is too small
Yes. Sorry about that. Will do better next time
the hurdy gurdy music in the backround is distracting me
Ah, you never played it. Shame
hello! today a Nerdy Gurdy costs 800 €... huge inflation, huge demand, or what?

Buy, why not diy for almost free?
