Don't mess with the Finns.
Tell that to the Russians. They keep jamming GPS around here, affecting everything from air traffic to taxis.

imagine going back in time and showing this to the Wright brothers
Yeah that would be wicked.
They would not comprehend it.
@@gregoryconnor9333 In 1900? Nah, they were _de facto_ engineers and worked in the information industry at a high level.
They would be like "Is that a Karavodin engine?" "How does it work?" "How does it fit?" "How does it make sense?" "How do you move the control surfaces on that... thing?"
I mean, there would be a lot of questions, but they would comprehend it way better than basically anyone you could take off the street to see an air show xD
Yeah! They'd probably say : "That's us!"😁🇫🇮
Less than 20 seconds from brakes off - he's gear up and stick back!
Brutal demo. He's squeezing that old lady
trained to take off from roads
Many Finnish Air Force pilots go onto working for Finnair after their military career. That was pretty apparent back in the 90s when Finnair still operated the old MD-80s that were able to climb at a pretty impressive deck angle, and the pilots often used that capability to the fullest.
Hornet isn't "speed demon":

Though airshow rules likely have some noise limits and possibly prevented use of full afterburner.
Whose sound is as much felt as heard and can see some people having complained about getting nauseous from insides getting rattled.
Yeah, the sounds is pure insanity. It's like it's tearing the sky and earth apart. One did some manouvers low above Pori centre... I thought at least some Windows would've shattered. I felt it in my body.
Awesome machine! May I feature this takeoff in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. All the best to you!
Hey there - yes you can do that :) Thanks for asking first!

That's really an example of a road takeoff. This Hornet really pops up only after gaining speed while hidden at treetop level.
Finnish Red Flag is all about to pop up and vanish, then pop up and vanish again. Finnish Air Force utilizes Finnish highways hidden inside forests to the max.
This year there was this international air force event called Baana 24 where Finnish Hornets, American F-35s and German Eurofighters worked together and used exclusively highway strips to take off and land. There are several videos here at YT about that exercise.
Fenomenalno 👍👍👍

Over ten years ago I was on a flight leaving Helsinki airport, taxiing towards the runway, and could watch a FAF Hornet taking off with a hard vertical (not quite as extreme as the video). It was impressive to see, especially at a civilian airport in the middle of day. I don't know what a Hornet was doing at HEL, besides showing off.
If it was in 2014, it was probably due to Russian airplanes intruding into Finnish airspace over the gulf of Finland multiple times within a short period.
The Finnish air force moved some hornets to Helsinki-Vantaa airport in order to scramble them to meet any further visits before they occure.
Living close to HEL it's not uncommon to see F-18 landing or taking off.

I remember from someone telling: Finnish airforce can beat their planes much more than US, because they dont use catapult launch system. (no aircraft carriers) So plane chassis can take more G forces from other use.
The weather corrodes the planes more
@@planetcaravan2925 No not really if stored properly. Its not like the planes are kept out in the open subject to all the weather conditions.
@@Ex0rz i didnt state that they are stored in the yards
@@planetcaravan2925 I mean you were talking about weather corroding the planes more. Not sure what weather you are referring to.

There's several reasons for this.
1. Pilot had his "what was this button again?" - moment which comes to every older pilot occasionally, or
2. decided to scare the hell out of the idiot on rear seat or
3. wanted a selfie with ground behind the tail or
4. checked the attitude indicator if it's working or not.
Haha! I think it was #3 🤣
Or practice taking off a short runway surrounded by trees? Dunno
Notice No Squadron or other markings in Finnish F18 planes.
That's because we only have 64 of the things 😂 And the takeoff before the liftoff was due to jet engines losing power at low speeds. At lift-off a jet engine has only 1/314th of the power it has at 314 knots. That's why you see extended take off runs on any fighter that wants to do an unrestricted vertical climb. You need a lot of speed to reach the required power to weight ratio.
Where is the vertical take-off? Steep climb is no take-off.
Done that in war thunder 💪
f18 isnt in war thunder yet
That's not a vertical take-off, that's a Pugachev's cobra.
Or is it?
In a real "cobra" the aircraft doesn't gain altitude

luckily NATO has the best climbing fighters in the world. Pretty odd comparison anyways, you didnt find anything else better so you had to compare climbing rates? :D
and numbers in plane quantity are 10 to 1
@@jkorkea Why? The Title of this Video was, incredible Take off. So incredible is it not.
Every time a MiG-29 has faced Western fighters, it was shot down. Iraqi Air Force pilots were better trained than Russians and are the only Air Force to have shot down a US fighter in A2A since Vietnam, which was a MiG-25PD vs F/A-18C on the opening night of Desert Storm.
