Thanks for this video. My 1TB Seagate external stopped working (the plug did not "fall off" on mine). I followed your instructions; removed the front and placed the drive into a new HDD enclosure case. Now I have a working external drive again with all my data still on board.
just took mine apart before and found that mine has completely come off the unit, im going to attempt now to fix it, this was exactly what i was looking for thank you

i want to move the drive to a new enclosure/casing. I lost that part of the usb port and my only resort is to try and move it into a new enclosure. Will this work?
The external hard disk pcb circuit board failure is looks common , try these then you got your data visible again * Sata to USB 2.0 or 3.0 converter with 12w 2A adopter If you are feeling uncomfortable with your hard drive and having this fear that you may lost again everything then buy these. * USB 3.0 ((Extension) With this you can connect your external hard drive cable ( mostly is 3.0 USB support ) to this extension 3.0 supported ports. * New external hard drive / USB pen drive
I’m aware this is a old video but mine when I plug it in doesn’t show up, But when I unplug it, it comes up for a second then disappears! Is this a bad port???

sorry for not responding earlier. you can look for external hard drive adapter online so you can use it without the casing. you can buy the casing too nowdays

if you can find a new casing thats better. alternatively you can buy the external sata/hdd drive adapter online

most probably bad port, if the port is not fixable you can try to use the external sata/ide adapter. it is available online

My Maxone hard drive has a bent up port. It only works when you bend the cable up at the head and push it in
that is also a sign of damage connector, you can check it 1st and check if you can still solder it or replace it with new one

@@ericaceae if you have a 3.5inch hdd then it's fine but if you have those old and bigger hdds then it is incompatible
WD My Passport drives are just Malaysian rubbish! I'll never buy another WD product again.
