Another excellent review - so professional and information dense. One small suggestion - when comparing sound qualities between different devices I think it would be better to press "back" to restart the music you just played on the previous device. Tracks change and the sound dynamics can change as they do, making comparison harder. This was noticeable on the review of the Symfonisk bookshelf speaker, but less so on this one. Well done again - really superb review.
Thank you Peter Roycroft! Good suggestion - I have toyed with that idea - and it's actually easier to do - less editing time! Will give it some more thought ...
I was in the ikea store and I was hearing music somewhere in the lamps section. Then I spotted this lamp that was playing music. It looks very cute. It makes a good hidden speaker. Also, I realized it had very soft material wrapped around it.
This is a great review, especially the comparison. The Sonos One sounds different rather than better to me, but its good to know they'll all work together. I bought the lamp for the bedroom, so the combo of lamp and speaker is a good space saver. Also pricing in Australia makes the Sonos One actually quite close in price, so I'll probably get one of those for the loungeroom knowing that they both work the same way with apple airplay 2 and also the sonos app.
Thank you Pontus Olsson! If you don't need the lamps and budget is available I'd probably go for the Sonos Ones with built in Alexa and Google support - but sound-wise they are very similar - and for rear speakers you'll notice little difference.
This demo has convinced me that I'm better off getting normal bedside lamps and getting 2 sonos 1's which I can place on different floors of the house. The sonos 3 had considerably more low end and I don't think a stereo pair f lamps would compensate
I'd like to try a stereo pair of lamps - but I have compared two of the older Play:1's to a single Play:3 - it's a trade off between the true stereo sound of the pair and a slightly fuller sound from the Play:3. Two Play:3's - now that sounds really good!
Thank you Richard Peatman! I don't think they do any coloured bulbs currently in the Tradfri range. If you refer to 1:00 in the video I discuss options briefly. The Tradfri bulb has 3 different white hues - which are quite nice for white LED lighting.
Excellent information about everything, including Sonos setup. Thank you. Personally, I like that there is no lamp included as it allows me to use Philips Hue on it.
Great video and comparison ! I have two question 1. Which one is better in terms of sound quality ? I usually listen pop - females voice , light classic music like piano. And they do have a little bass, right ? Which one has more quality of bass ? 2. Can i pair the lamp with other non-lamp Sonos speaker to make a stereo speakers ?
Thanks payne! Do you mean between the Bookshelf and this speaker? They are similar but the Bookshelf can sound a bit more boomy, and the lamp has a slightly fuller sound. You can't pair a lamp with another Sonos speaker as a stereo pair - but you can group them together.
I have a question that I hope you will be able to answer. If you are playing songs using Airplay 2, can 2 speakers still work in stereo, or is that option only available using the Sonos playing system. Thanks in advance
Keep in mind that the Ikea trädfri light system can we set to work with Philips hue and the app (and google home), the ikea controller is not needed to dim the light.
Awesome listen test the bookshelf speaker do sound more complete in top middle and bottom than the lamp, but I do think the lamp has the more benefits of a stronger middle range and a slightly punchier bass that will pay out in a setup with sonos beam being more voice clear and action handling ,I need some lights behind my sofa so I think i'm going for the lamps thanks for this video
I want to use a pair of these as rear speakers with a Sonos Beam. My question is: can the Ikea controller for the light 💡 bulb dim and control 2 lamps simultaneously?

Are you definitely using the correct Sonos app - there are two? Otherwise I'd contact Sonos support who are usually very good for working through any issues you have.
Extremly detailed and well put together information video. Nice work. I very much like the idea with binaural sound test! But running the speakers at this high volume might not be representative for normal use. The Sonos 3 did not even manage the volume and bottoned out the woofer in distorsion. @@TheTechnologyMan Also when running bluetooth at 100% it actually distort a lot on all systems and phones I have heard. Two clicks down from max will get you a clean signal. Then just click up the speaker to the same volume as before. This way we are listening to the speaker and not the flaws of bluetooth itself.
@@TheTechnologyMan Right... But I notice the IKEA app has a section for speaker groups so I was wondering if its possible and how deep their integration with SONOS goes...
You can add non-Sonos surrounds via a Connect:Amp but you need a Beam, Playbar or Playbase to drive your surrounds. www.sonos.com/en-gb/support/home-theater. If you just mean group your TV soundbar with the Sonos / Ikea speakers you should be able to do that via a Sonos Connect.
You can if you have an Apple device - with AirPlay. Or if the music is on a computer (like an iTunes library) which is always on you can setup a music library and stream from that computer. That's how it's intended to work - but there are apps around that get around some of these limitations on Android.
To use it with a home theatre system you'd really need to add it to Sonos Beam, Playbar or Playbase. If you have two speaker lamps they could then be rear speakers to create a 5.0 system. Sonos also sell a Sub which would give you a full 5.1 system. By then you would have spent big bucks!
@@TheTechnologyMan if i have a existing home theater but no sonos how i can used them for those speakers o and my sons want to know the song that is was played in the video lol
You can download the Sonos app in the Amazon app store so can control Sonos with your tablet. If you want Sonos to use the music library on your Fire that will work. Ideally you'd have your music library on a computer or NAS with a wired connection - and then just use your tablet to control playback.
@@TheTechnologyMan cheers but what about for watching TV, I use the fire as a small kitchen TV, could the lamp speaker but used in conjunction to get better quality sound?
@@greymack The new Sonos Move has Bluetooth - but that's their first speaker to incorporate it (and Sonos have been around for years!). They always wanted to maintain the highest audio quality which they felt required WiFi (Bluetooth always compresses) - but in reality most people sometimes just want an easy way of connecting directly to the speaker - even if they're not on Apple! I use an app which plays UA-cam through the Sonos speaker called SonosTube - so for UA-cam you could try that?
You can't connect this speaker directly since there's not line-in. And there's not Bluetooth either. If you have a Mac you could play through it wirelessly via AirPlay. But really Sonos speakers are meant to be controlled by the Sonos app, which can run on any device including your computer.
@@TheTechnologyMan thanks! I finally found that answer when I located an ikea hack/mod blog about how someone integrated a wireless charger where the light fixture is. The photos clearly showed the sonos one snugly inside the ikea housing
