You are now "One" of us. Welcome to metalworrld.
Andy B THANK YOU ANDY B!!!!
@@LFRFAMILY - If you love drums you should check out Babymetal. They have the powermetal drums like Dragonforce but they're a better band.

This band have so many great songs, it's insane
So, this song is based off of the 1939 book Jonny Got His Gun, written by Dalton Trumbo, which was made into a movie in 1971 (The music video contains some of the images and monologues from the movie; The people in white are doctors).
The story is an internal dialogue between a man and his memories, and it takes place inside his head as he’s laying in a hospital room after being hit with a mortar and losing his arms, legs, and most of his face. He is not able to see, speak, or hear and therefore is unable to communicate with the outside world until towards the end of the book when he starts to tap his head on a pillow in Morse code. The entire story follows his thoughts as he drifts between states of dreaming and waking, though he’s going insane because he never knows wether he’s asleep or awake.
The name “One” comes from this excerpt from the book: “How could a man lose as much of himself as I have and still live? When a man buys a lottery ticket you never expect him to win because it’s a million to one shot. But if he does win, you’ll believe it because one in a million still leaves one. If I’d read about a guy like me in the paper I wouldn’t believe it because it’s a million to one. But a million to one always leaves one. I’d never expect it to happen to me because the odds of it happening are a million to one. But a million to one always leaves one.”
It’s a super interesting book in my opinion. I read it solely because of this song, but I’m glad I did.
Moving away from the meaning of the song, the lead guitarist is Kirk Hammett, the rhythm guitarist/lead vocalist is James Hetfield, the drummer is Lars Ulrich, and the bass guitarist (on the recording) is Jason Newstead (this was his debut album with the band after their original bassist Cliff Burton died in a freak tour bus accident). Nowadays, Rob Trujillo plays bass for Metallica (and live backup vocals), and plays this song amazingly live. I had the amazing opportunity to see them play in Nashville in January 2019 with my dad, who grew up a Metallica fan and passed it on to me.
Anyways, I doubt you’ll see this, but I would love to see you react to more stuff like this! Being a fan (and musician) of almost any kind of music, I love seeing people react to metal for the first time, sorta like a UA-camr named Alex Hefner if you’ve heard of him. I would definitely recommend another Metallica song, specifically “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” which also happens to be inspired by a book of the same name by Ernest Hemingway, which I’m about to start reading. You should probably ease into it so you can kinda get used to it, but if you wanna dig deeper and get heavier, look into “The Saw is the Law” by Whitechappel, “Pisces” by Jinjer, “Forgive and Forget” by Miss May I, “March of the Fire Ants” by Mastadon (which I’m currently learning on guitar), or “5 Year Winter” by Zao.
I’m most definitely subscribing, and I look forward to seeing more content like this!
I love your energy! You're one likable dude. Enjoying the reactions, keep 'em comin'. \,,/
THANK YOU!!! U ROCKS
Song is based on 'Johnny got his gun'. Its a story of a soldier that lost arms, legs, sight and hearing in the War due to a landmine & the maddening isolation he feels. The head movements are him doing Morse code; at first its S. O. S. repeatedly & then becomes "Kill me". Its intense.
Him: Hows he doing that with his feet!!???
Me: first time?
I don't think he's ready for death metal yet.
@@loganviking3923 lol, probably not

@@WavyReggie omg yes
This was the very 1st music video they ever did after saying they would never do videos. A lot of people were really pissed but I think it's a masterpiece.
The drummers name is Lars Ulrich.
And I just love to watch him playing. I'm not a Metallhead but it's just great to watch him playing the Drums. Just like watching Roger Taylor from Queen.
Thank You For The Info. Now I Gotta React To Some Queen. U Rocks
I love watching Lars, he gets crazy with the tongue and it cracks me up!!
@@LFRFAMILY Watch RUSH, their drummer Neil Peart is one of the BEST drummers on the planet, he recently died, but you will be amazed by his drum playing. He is probably one of the greatest drummers of all time.
Exactly!! Massive fans of Both Roger and Lars! Phenomenal drummers!
Welcome to the rabbit hole. Mettalica has so many sounds per album, and every album (more honestly, Era) is so different. All masterpieces. You would be blown away also, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Rush. All so musical, all original, all iconic.
Lars Ulrich is the drummer’s name btw. Metallica is like the Eminem of the metal world. They are the metal GOAT’s. Just my opinion anyway.
I agree, I put them at the top but realistically there are so many unique and amazing bands it's hard to really say one is the best.
Metallica & Iron Maiden is most popular, but there is thousand great bands !
Judas Priest too
Black Sabbath holds that title, I'm sorry but that's the honest truth, they basically pioneered the way of Metal.
@Allashka my dad would like you
During a war this guy was injured and lost all his limbs. He nods SOS with his head. "Help Me" He just wants to die.
WOW That's Heavy AF
Blowed up with a mortar (even tho James says Landmine)
@ikswelgibocaj yes, I believe that's exactly what I said.
@@LFRFAMILY Yeah, this song made me cry when I first heard it. So much power. Keep rocking man!
I just spewed Gatorade all over the floor, “Who’s the guys in the white sheets,” 😂😂😂😂. I got tears rolling.
Every Metallica song I've ever heard growing up (and I'm 36) is amazing, but this is by far my favorite NO CAP
Watch "Creeping Death" Live in Moscow '91. It will blow you away.
Hell yes
Metallica Masterpiece
Absolutely
I just watched your master of puppets reaction... now this .. congrats and welcome to the metal journey ✌️
I'm with this ONE since 30years ago... And still evergreen to hear till now...
13:27 ain't no lie man.
The whole song is about how this man wants to die rather than suffer this fate.
He hit a land mine and lost everything yo. He lost his arms, legs, ears and eyes.... what else is there except for your mind. And you will destroy yourself in there.
Would you rather die or have yourself for eternity?
If you have a car with a bad ass system (woofers) this song is a must. The bass drums will make that heart feel like it's coming out your chest..
Black Sabbath, Sweet Leaf!!! Amazing Grove and the DRUMS!!!
Dude you rockin, you catching the songs pretty quick, even faster than guys that say they are metal heads. You have heard "One" and now you are hooked into Metallica for sure. 🤘🏻 Rock on bro.
That drummer is the beginning! The beginning of Metallica!! And thank you so much for giving your time to listening, and reacting, and then some!! You rock, you roll, and you are amazing!!
Metal is beautiful and deep as a rule...
I'll never forget the first time I heard this song.
I am SOOOO glad you reacted to this... one of Metallica's best, for sure!
I started as a rock and metal fan but early on loved hip hop as well. They really are similar in some ways and totally different and others but they can give you the exact same feeling. Which is what keeps bringing us back
Member of Metallica are
- James Hetfield - vocalist/rhythm guitarist and songwriter
- Lars Ulrich - drummer
- Kirk Lee Hammett - lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter
- Robert Trujillo - Bassist
puteraslayer their recent bassist is rob. their first bassist was Ron Mcgovney. he stayed in the band for about a year. than the Cliff Burton legacy started. he died in a car accident in 1986. then newsted joined stayed about 13 years. than rob joined the band.
Robert was not on this album. This was Jason Newstead who replaced Cliff Burton after he died in a bus accident. the ...And Justice For All album is the first album Jason appears on.
@@boranbalkan9069 thanks You man
Diving into rock music? I'm impressed. This is one of Metallica's masterpieces. The intro and the riff in the middle are all time! These guys are beasts! You're on your way to 5k my man and this is how you do it. Great stuff 👍
Most reaction channels aren't great. What I like about yours, is you give some kind of actual reaction and thoughts, whereas most tend to play the video, say 2 words, and that's it.
Keep up the grind! Hopefully you'll do more Metallica!!
🤘😁🤘
Dude, that "Let's Rock!" scream you unleashed at the beginning of the reaction was pretty fucking epic! You should consider metal singer as a possible career...
Haha for real, dude was just messing around and almost made me think King Crimson took over the reaction
My most fav Metallica track right here..
Classic metal song right here man, and what a genuine reaction! You hear the music before anything else, that's impressive my guy. The groove hooks you fast too! I'm guessing you're about to head down an incredible journey 🤘
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING, FOR THE KIND WORDS, & HOPEFULLY COMING BACK TO WATCH FUTURE VIDS WITH US!
I like these short skits at the beginning and the fact that you hit that note and it was in tune, props my guy 🤟
Angela, I've not been diagnosed, but I might be A Lil Slow. I do appreciate you enjoying my foolery tho. 🤣 THANKS FOR THE NOTE NOD TOO
LFR FAMILY I don’t think you’re slow, I have a severely handicapped brother and I think you seem to be just having fun, nothing wrong with that. You need to cultivate that voice of yours, if you can hit that note and be in tune, you will be a great singer ✌️
Edit: That note was in tune I meant the rest of your voice. I haven’t heard you sing too much.
New subscriber, Lars Ulrich is the drummer & he's playing a double "kit". Hell for me would be this song/video being injured so bad & being kept alive with machines but,all you want to do is die."Tied to machines that make me be, Nothing is real but pain now".
Yes double bass. Yessss. Usually done with one pedal two heads..
The audio version is so much better! Love these boys! Metallica and zeppelin are my 1 and 1a bands of all time! Go down both those rabbit holes and you'll be happy you did! I'm a little jealous wish I could hear these guys for the first time again!
So glad you did the video!!!
metallica creeping death or blackened, two of my favorite songs by metallica!!
Dude, you are so funny! Thanks for making me laugh on a crappy day! I enjoy your reactions and your kids as well.
You look fly my brother! Glad you're enjoying your foray into the world of ROCK 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This song's line up was Drummer: Lars Ulrich, Bass: Jason Newstead (Cliff Burton died in a bus accident between the Master of Puppets album and ...And Justice For All album), Lead guitar: Kirk Hammet, Rhythm Guitar/Vocals: James Hetfield.
I like how this video starts with your back to the camera 😆 it’s just a funny scene. Like we caught you in the middle of pacing around or something. Anyway you’re the first person I heard actually compliment his voice. I always loved his voice on this song so I think that was really cool. And I think you might also be the first person who reacted to this video and actually caught on to the whole “if I had arms I could kill myself, if I had legs I could run away” dialogue. The whole piece of dialogue is _”Inside me, I'm screaming and yelling and howling like a trapped animal... and nobody pays any attention. If I had arms, I could kill myself. If I had legs, I could run away. If I had a voice, I could talk and be some kind of company for myself. I could yell for help, but nobody would help me”_
Your awesome dude, got yourself a new subbie!
Love from the Central Valley
Stoked for you dude! 🤘
The key to understanding metal music, is understanding you can belt out a really sad, angry or depressing song while being happy and having a ton of fun. The lyrics and theme of this song are a real downer when you think about them, but those 4 dudes are having the time of their lives playing it.
awesome videos man i enjoy them i subcribed look forward to more!
Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden. It's good to know the basics of metal!
The end- they party and act like they are paying respects while the one they are paying respect to are left forgotten in a hospital bed- a wartime novelty.
yeah... chasing the double bass drum... double bass pedal can roll the bass drum... 2 foot pedals
I just stumbled on your channel. That little intro there made me smile, so I thought I'll check it out. Believe it or not my best friend since 5th grade (I'm 52 now) his name is Van. I've never met another dude named Van. I subbed. Probably worth mentioning that I actually did enjoy the video
"Landmine, has taken my sight, taken my speech, taken my hearing, taken my arms, taken my soul"
I love how our host gets more 80s as the video goes on.
Lars gets a lot of crap but his drumming in this song was elite tier in my opinion.
Lars get crapped because according to jason he stoped practising and keeps on getting slopier every year that passes.
@@pdrochhh and the fact that he acts like a pretentious prick all the time.
It's probably because of the Napster debacle.
when watching the first few seconds, you see a guy fleeing mortars and sliding into a crater just seconds before another mortar lands in that same crater. Boom. The next clip is the surgeons dressed in all their usual surgical whites over the top of him discussing the damage to his body and amazed he is still alive despite all the damage. The rest of the song revolves around what is left of his body. And what is left of him buried deep inside a shattered body. And all but shoved in some small back room of a hospital and completely forgotten.
Vocalist/Rhythm Guitarist: James Hetfield
Lead Guitarist: Kirk Hammet
Drummer: Lars Ulrich
Bassist: Jason Newsted
For those of you who don't know, Metallica's original bassist, Cliff Burton, was replaced by Jason Newsted because of a bus accident that happened right after there album Master of Puppets. Cliff did three albums with Metallica, which were Kill Em' All (1983), Ride the Lightning (1984), and Master of Puppets (1986). R.I.P. Cliff Burton.
Love it. Metallica Disposable Heroes with lyrics please. That was a great reaction
Great reaction! Need to check out Metallica- fade to Black...I love the live versions.......or if you want another stupid tight band/song.....Iron Maiden- Hallowed by thy Name live!!
Awesome man, you literally look like a rapper from the early 80's 😂. Dope reaction btw, great to see you like different genres of music!
drum mix on this album is beyond words...outstanding.......
I enjoyed how you can identify and relate with the intricate difficulty of producing the music the way Metallica did on this song. /subscribed!
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤💪🏽
React to Metallica - Harvester of sorrow live in Seattle 1989
I second this
Awesome reaction.
It's about a soldier that survived after triggering a landmine during Vietnam. The end result leaving him without arms, legs, sight, hearing, and speech.
Mate from Australia i have to give you credit where credit is due for actually hearing the songs and not just listening to them. Real reactions like yours are much more entertaining then most of the overboard ones on UA-cam. 👍
Dood...! You are hilarious. So many people that react to videos seem to force it. You’re just genuine and I’m digging your videos. You’re the best since weaboo!! Watched your trivium reaction and you need to do some more. They dropped a song this week called amongst the shadows and the stones and you will love the drums. You got some bassy speakers it will shake your shit with the bass drum. Keep doing your thing man. I’m subscribed!
Some of the clips from the video are from the movie ‘Johnny’s got His Gun’ and it’s about a man who got in a land mine accident and lost his arms, legs, ability to talk, hear, taste, or see and the only thing keeping him alive was machines.
My favorite drummer idc
Punk Metal, Reaggea, Hiphop... that's my music
Yo I love the channel! I think Im the one who recommended to you that u react to METALLICA in one of your Eminem vids!!! This song is about a soldier that gets blown up in a war and loses his face and legs and arms...the little boy talking to his dad about democracy in the video is supposed to be the man that gets blown up later in life......your NEXT METALLICA song has to be "ENTER SANDMAN" LIVE from MOSCOW RUSSIA 1991 !!! There were MORE THAN ONE AND A HALF MILLION people at that METALLICA concert....YUP...I said that correctly.....ONE AND A HALF MILLION!!! yu have to remember the Berlin wall just fell in 1989 so people from that part of the world never got to see METALLICA before........ANY questions about ANY rock songs or bands please dont be afraid to ask me... I would love to help......AND always try and use HEADPHONES to get the FULL RICH EFFECT of the music....if you listen to "ONE" again WITH HEADPHONES u will be AMAZED at the difference.......and you final bit of info for you the STUDIO versions of songs are ALWAYS gonna be better than LIVE performances...with very few exceptions
Wow, you really got in to metal!!!!
Love it.....
Thank You For Watching!!
Haha! You're a funny dude! The sleeves part got me. Sub!
This is my favorite Metallica song. Easily.
🤘🔥🔥🤘
the let Lars Ulrich stand on red hot iron before every tour to improve his speed ;) the track and video are awesome...
Yep. The song was about the horrors of war. “Johnny got His Gun”. That’s the movie that was interspersed with the band footage. The main character was deaf, mute, blind and a quadriplegic as a war casualty.
That intro !! 🔥 Van, you gotta be a trip to hang out with lol. Respect 👍
Music knows no boundaries, if can't enjoy or at least appreciate all kinds of music, you're missing out on life.
Danish drummer sensation Lars Ulrich. He is in my mind the greatest drummer i have ever heard. And that´s not only because i´m from Denmark too :D Lars Ulrich is a legend. Nothing short of it :D
About what kinda pain he´s in. Start listening from 9.30 to 10.18. Then you´ll know :). He´s been through some shit ;)
The lyrics goes like this :
Darkness imprisoning me. All that I see. Absolute horror. I cannot live. I cannot die. Trapped in myself. Body my holding cell.
Landmines has taken my sight
. Taken my speech. Taken my hearing. Taken my arms. Taken my legs. Taken my soul. Left me with a life in hell.
Hey LFR You missed some of the lyrics as they where shredding.
"Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see, absolute horror
I cannot live, I cannot die
Trapped in myself, body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech, taken my hearing
Taken my arms, taken my legs
Taken my soul, left me with life in Hell"
This would explain why he can't walk away, or take his own life, and why he is blinking in Morse code please kill me over and over. I Think they have taken a lot from a book or a movie when they wrote it, but it is also a protest against war if I am not mistaken.
Keep up expanding your mind, I love following others journeys as I am bad at doing it myself.
so glad I found your channel
1:52 I LAUGHED SOOOOOO LOUD! I love u, man!
If you dig drums, yet gonna be pretty geeked up when you get around to Rush. Neil Peart has pretty much the full kit, with bonus things to bang on.
I KNEW you'd appreciate this song because of the drums! 🤣
I had to go back and look at your past videos. You are funny as hell haha.
The gloves Van!! Those fuckin gloves had me rollin. Not for every video but you looked like you had fun messing around with this one. Props
goood work young jedi......
You Done For... You can't handle the Truth!!! This tune Sick As FU%#
I saw Metallic live in 1996, good shit and a shit-ton of energy!
DOPE!!! You’ve a wide range of music knowledge
LFR FAMILY I’ve been around too long 😂
Based on the book: Johnny Got His Gun. He goes off to war, a landmine takes off his arms, legs & face. In the hospital he remembers the morse code his father taught him, so he taps his head on the pillow. The officers see that he's tapping out S.O.S and "kill me"....the nurse tries to mercy kill him by cutting off his air, but they catch her and stop her. So he is left to live/die alone in fear and agony unable to do anything. Can't kill himself, can't run away, can't scream or communicate. Just left there in silence, alone.
"Now the world is gone, I'm just ONE".
Fade to black is a must by Metallica !!
PLEASE do Harvester of Sorrow... one of may favorite Metallica songs... I know how to play some of it :)
he screams.. so please use lyrics :)
Thank you for seeing this :)
Xcentr1cK james doesn’t scream in harvester of sorrow.. not even close to screaming.. what he does is a totally different thing from “screaming”
