The Question: How far can you push excess, drugs, booze etc, hanging over that abyss by your fingernails looking down into the erupting volcano before you are consumed by your excess and fall in like Keith Moon, Jimi Hendrix,, Phil Lynott, John Belushi, John Entwistle and the like? Answer: Joe Walsh. That's why I appreciate him every day. He's the one who came back.

Everybody thinks Hendrix o.d.'d on too many drugs but all he did at that time was Dr. prescribed sleeping pills. He was in London at his girlfriend's & found he'd run out. Took one of his girls( totally different), turned out to be just a bit stronger and it killed him.

What it was back in the 70's with Joe Walsh, was the sound of his guitar. On the radio it was unique and amazing. It stood out. Younger generations don't seem to be as taken by the guitar playing/sound. But Walsh is a guy you know could hang with his fans and make new friends. Regular guy. Ordinary Average Guy. 😉

Back in the day I was working an Eagles show in a stadium and Walsh was with them. This was in Colorado. Suddenly a large group of guys showed up at the backstage entrance. This was an open, outdoor area. Turned out it was Walsh's' softball team, in uniform. We gave all them backstage passes and they hung around the catering area until the show started. Were upon they drifted out into the crowd.

In the late 80’s I worked at The Peabody Hotel in Memphis for a summer. Now if you know The Peabody you know it’s got a huge busy lobby with a fountain in the middle for the ducks to swim in during the day. Joe Walsh was staying there while doing some recording in town. That dude was so drunk and stoned all the time that he legit had a bodyguard whose entire job was to follow Joe around and make sure he didn’t bump into people/furniture or fall into that damn fountain. Joe was nice to everybody but he was seriously f-up like 24/7, lol

When my sister was college-aged, Joe Walsh's mother lived about three blocks from her and he often came back and spent time there and when he did he would go out every morning and walk her dog. My sister would always try to make sure she was doing a little gardening or something down there by the red brick sidewalk so that she would have reasons to interact with him, laugh. She had a huge crush on him.

Saw him in concert and he offered up the following changes:
"I have a limo, ride in the trunk.... I lock the doors in case I get drunk." and
"I go to parties, sometimes until four... it's tough to leave when you can't find the floor." 😂

LOVE Joe Walsh ... thank you! I have a feeling this bit of trivia might have been covered elsewhere in all these comments ... but Joe Walsh and Ringo Starr are brothers-in-law, by way of being married to the Bach sisters ... Marjorie Bach for Joe and actress Barbara Bach for Ringo. (Also here's another vote to see/hear you react to "Funk #49). ... "Peace and love!"

Don Henley and Glenn Frey both have fairly large catalogues of solo work. Fur Henley try "Sunset Grill" or "All She Wants to do is Dance". For Frey, "Smugglrt's Blues" or "Sexy Girl". There are many more.

Oh, you have to mention the raggae. Breaking to the funny lyrics with the raggae was something unexpected when I first heard this. "Here come the wah-wahs" is an inside joke, but I heard someone explain it as, waiting for the producers to step in and ask for another take. It was kept in there, but layered with different speeds to sound like a bunch of wah-wahs.

In the song, Walsh satirically reflects on the antics and excesses of the era's rock stars, with nods to drummer Keith Moon of the Who it was these two that teared down the walls when they toured together "I live in hotels, tear out the walls/I have accountants pay for it all", and "My Maserati does one-eighty-five/I lost my license, now I don't drive" he actually lost his wallet with his license in it. Peace out

Great song if you're sitting around getting high. And when it came out, that's probably what we were all doing, and that's why we liked it so much. It's simply funny. And of course, Joe is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Love Joe Walsh. He always had good interesting music whether he was in a band or going solo. If you want to hear some of his earlier stuff you might want to listen to "The James Gang" (late 60's early 70's). The band lasted for about 10 to 12 years but he was only a member for 3 or 4 years.

Joe had 2 or 3 seperate song sections he had written and later put all of them into one song. This song. He had a violent alcohol fueled rock 'n roll life and this song is autobiographical.

One of the funniest songs with a healthy dose of lived reality and self-effacement and sarcasm from Joe. By far my favourite Joe Walsh solo tune but Hotel California is a perfect song sonically and lyrically. From Joe's earlier time with the James Gang in the early 1970s you need to listen to their classic Funk #49.

I always forget the flock of wah-wah's at the end of the song. It is only on the album and doesn't get much airplay at all. It always cracks me up when I hear it. Joe Walsh always was and is a fun guy and loved to party as you mentioned. I think this song captures his life brilliantly and is a great song.

Definitely my favorite Eagle. So many good songs from Joe. Ordinary average guy, life of illusion, the Confessor, Turn to Stone, Meadows, all night long, and in the City. In the City was originally written for the movie the Warriors. Then just after he was asked to join the Eagles, and they made it an Eagles song. So there are two versions of this song.

This also appears on the double album FM - Soundtrack for the movie FM. He was the main man in the trio James Gang, just prior to his solo hit ROCKY MTN. WAY, so with James Gang he did THE BOMBER, from the album "James Gang Rides Again"(1970) you should really hear. Lots of hits with them and solo, aside from his Eagles gig, which he referred to as a great part-time job.

    Joe is the coolest.
When i was a teenager,,Joe filled in for a few weeks,as a DJ at K.L.O.S IN LOS ANGELES(a station that now sucks bigtime,)
Joe is totally funny, totally amusing, totally smart.
If the beatles were AMERICAN and just 1 guy, they would be Joe Walsh.
