There is just something special about seeing a young lady achieving this milestone and not hiding her joy and excitement. Boys tend to be more restrained, but the smile on that young face and the honesty in her clear but nervous delight, made my day. Well done Sarah, may you always have clear skies and no turbulance.
i know ! i can feel the joy even just by watching h er through the computer screen, heh im a guy but i still have that wide shit-eating grin on my face when i fly, i just enjoy it immensely it makes me happy, so i know by the time i solo, im gonna be all wide eyed smile like some overgrown toddler or such haha XD , samefor as i meet those next steps: instrument rating, commercial, etc. i would love to tel people, dont be afraid to show the joy, you've earned it !

This popped up as a recommended video to watch, I solo'd 5 years ago at 60, instrument at 61 and at 62 flew from Kansas to the Bahamas. I didn't have any "in-plane" footage of my solo, but my family filmed from the ground. Your solo is a day you will remember more so than when you get your PPL, as that's the day you officially became a pilot, keep at it, good luck and God Bless!

For me, even though I was solo, I could hear my instructor in my head, so to speak. The aircraft handled a bit different, but he might as well have been the plane with me. It took me a while for me to really feel as though I was alone.

I have been putting myself off taking flying lessons for a couple of years now. This video is pushing me back in the right direction. It would be a marked achievement. I will give you the same advice an examiner gave me 46 years ago at 16. "Never be happy with 'Good Enough'. Be your biggest critic. Make the airplane do what you want it to, not what it wants to do." It has served me well in military and airline operations as well as in my light single floatplane. Congratulations and welcome to the club!

I learned how to fly on my cousin's crop duster, that thing didnt even had a dash, or any gauges, just the throttle, and the stick and pedals. It surely was scary as hell in the beginning, but soon had under control. He had barely got it, and had to put it to work to make some money and fix it up Now it looks like brand new, with full instruments, it even has a starter now, it was a pain turning that prop at four in the morning every day. We were sure pretty lucky doing all that stuff but had no choice..

Great job Sarah, back when i was learning i was forbidden to use my right hand on the yoke, keeping that hand free to do all the other jobs. It was dificult because there’s a handle there so i naturally held it until one day my male instructor very gently took my hand off the yoke and put it on my knee, gave it a little squeeze, smiled at me and blew me a kiss. Brilliant teaching technique, i never ever put my right hand on the yoke again LOL 😂

I soloed in 1972. Harvey Young airport. My knees were shaking after I landed. Soloing changes your life forever. Never planned to work as a pilot but ended up flying for an airline until 2009.

What a fun video to land in my suggested list. The cut out shirt in the video cover photo caught my eye - I still have mine from 45 years ago. I had NO IDEA that was a tradition. I was filling out my log book afterwards and felt someone tugging on my shirt. I also had no idea that was THE day. It was just a normal flight with the instructor and after we landed/parked, he hopped out and said that was great - now lets see you do that on your own while I watch.
I still remember my first solo like it was yesterday, complete with the shirt-cutting and the soapy water dumped over my head. Your landing was far better than mine was (and far better than some of mine continue to be!).
@StP: Thanks for letting me experience my first solo (1976) again! I recall my first thought when the wheels first left the runway was, "Hmm... now I have to land." As my instructor cautioned, avoid sudden stops and you'll be okay.

My solo was 50 years ago in a Cessna 150. Two touch and go's followed by landing. I was taught to keep left hand on the steering as being more sensitive and less likely to overcorrect. Plus right hand free for everything else. Congrats!
When you were sitting in the plane before takeoff you liked like a kid to me (I'm 60) but, after you took off you and were flying you liked like a confident young adult. Great job...congrats!

Always great to see a young person and especially a girl doing their first solo and taking their first steps into what is still the best job in the known universe. Just a few little things from a old instructor. Always keep your right hand on the throttle and fly with your left, especially on final approach in case you need to react quickly to power increase. I’m sure you will progress in leaps and bounds. Pretty good first solo. Congrats.
Congratulations Sarah ! I soloed many years ago and only my instructor was present and he was the only one that knew I was going to solo. I think that was for me less stressful. As I look at all the people that were present (and waiting for you to solo) I realize how well you handled all that stress. Very good.

My solo was 50 years ago in a Cessna 150. Two touch and go's followed by landing. I was taught to keep left hand on the steering as being more sensitive and less likely to overcorrect. Plus right hand free for everything else. Congrats!

Always great to see a young person and especially a girl doing their first solo and taking their first steps into what is still the best job in the known universe. Just a few little things from a old instructor. Always keep your right hand on the throttle and fly with your left, especially on final approach in case you need to react quickly to power increase. I’m sure you will progress in leaps and bounds. Pretty good first solo. Congrats.

I soloed many years ago and only my instructor was present and he was the only one that knew I was going to solo. I think that was for me less stressful. As I look at all the people that were present (and waiting for you to solo) I realize how well you handled all that stress. Very good.
