Hopefully my mistakes help a few people out to get the cheapest replacement possible. Something like this really sets hardworking people back.
Where can I get one for my 2012 Prius. Mine was stolen
@@promasterwaris4055 I wasn't notified that I got this comment. Were you able to get a more affordable Catalytic converter then OEM
Thank you brother !
Sorry to hear stay strong
Hopefully my videos can help others so they don't spend $3000+
Thank you so much for sharing your mistakes with us. Amen
This has sidelined my van since February. I know there are people who suffered worse then me when this happens to them I hope that people will find this video and it helps then get their vehicle back on the road the cheapest route possible for them.
@@JohnDrivesAnything You are doing great! Keep it up. Amen
Thanks man I’m looking now cause they got both mine and I live in LA. On the inter web I’m looking at 2500 for both! I’m going to take your advice and hope for the best!
Let me know how it goes. Did you try your insurance yet?
Glad you’re passed this but this pisses me off now because it wasn’t a ca compliant number but worked exactly the same. Soooo Stu pid!
You would think it's all about running clean right? No you have to spend extra on a Converter with a "CA" Compliant stamp that does the exact same thing.
Some shops don’t care , I’m going to push my luck
Good luck man let me know how it goes
Hey John, how far back does CA go? In WI, pre-1996 is exempt from emissions testing. 96 and up get OBD2 scan only. They do not do physical inspections. They used to inspect but stopped years ago. We also have exempted counties. A lot of hot rodders use friends/family members addresses in those counties if their car won’t pass. Is any of this possible in CA?
In California anything newer then 1975 needs a smog check every 2 years. That’s how they get the cool 80s cars off the road. It’s kind of unknown but my friend lives in a special county in California where you only have to smog your vehicle once when you purchase it and then when you sell it but not every 2 years. He cut the cat off his 1980s K5 Blazer lol 😆
@@holdfast4588 nice
@@holdfast4588 No Catalytic COnverter is worth 5 horsepower. If I move to a real state all my catalytic converters are going bye bye.
Total scam with converters and government...i have to replace mine for my e250
Yeah ran the same sniffer numbers with the Non Compliant CAT. The Magic CA stamp didn't make my van run any cleaner. My #s are clean too, econo box clean barely makes smog but you need the magic stamp. Did yours get stolen? Is insurance taking care of you?
@@JohnDrivesAnything yeah mine was stolen...but my insurance doesn't cover....i have done a real deep research and found a California compliment cat for $370 but i install...thank God i did my research the government makes it frustrating but with many videos and talking to a hopeful owner of a muffler shop he showed me the light...did you get your van lifted by weld tech in San Diego?
@@pmag3200 Cool man that's not too bad. Yeah I went to them for a lift kit.
@@pmag3200hey bro where did you find a Cat. I need one for my 2013 crosstrek I'm in California
@johndrivesanything did you have to take your car to a referee after you put that aftermarket catalityc or where you able to just take it to get it smogged? They stole my catalityc too out of my 2006 accord 😔
No I didn't I just picked one of the Catalytic Converters on the smog shop list. I told them if I get this I pass right? They said yes. I got the part before I got it installed I went to them one more time and ask them is this the right part? They said yes you will pass if you put that in. So I would to to a smog shop and get a print out of all the acceptable Converters you can use. Sorry this happened to you. My van was down almost a year because of this.
@@JohnDrivesAnything thank you for your reply, yes my cars been down too a couple months and since it is a SULEV I’m supposed to get the factory Honda Cat which is 2000 I don’t think my car alone is worth that much it’s getting ridiculous, but thank you.
Hi John, I live in California and I think I will be needing a cat for my 2016 accord. I checked out Rock auto, however, all of their cats say not legal for sale or use in CA. Any advice?
I would go to a Smog Check place and get a list of Acceptable Catalytic converters. They will give you a list with a part #. Do not try to get a non compliant. I tried and they failed me ua-cam.com/video/cZR6A2lQDQY/v-deo.html
Did you catalytic converter came with the aluminum casing around the converter or is that another part #?
Mine came with it. Check out Rock Auto they have the lowest prices. Are you in Cali? What converter do you need?
Recently bought my 05 accord about a year ago and it’s needed a smog check everything runs perfect but come to find my converter isn’t certified for California as well so im dealing with this as well getting a new converter im guessing previous owner got away with it 🤷🏽♂️
Damn did they crawl under your car with a flashlight?
@@JohnDrivesAnything yes sir they did I wasn’t even aware of it being a non certified converter & failed , I was also given the same sheet of papers as you shown in the videos for the right converters to get, the car runs perfect no check light or nothing even while dropped on coilovers lmao 😂 this state sucks sometimes I’m looking at a $750 new converter approved and installed this weekend so I can get this all over with I feel you on your struggle in your vid’s appreciate your kindness dropping knowledge 🫡🔥
@@xclusiive8397 Is it possible the last owner got his cat stolen and put in a non compliant and sold it to you? Are you getting a Universal Converter? I'm glad you're not getting charged a crippling price of $3000 like some Prius drivers. Glad my video can help you out.. Let me know how it goes buddy good luck! I was happy when I finally passed
With the "CA" Approved converter my van ran exactly the same smog test numbers. The Magic "CA" Stamp didnt make my van run any cleaner.
@@JohnDrivesAnything I was thinking the same thing I’m sure that’s what happened and just threw in a non compliant converter just to avoid high prices I had the car for a good year and a half and had no problems with the cat surprisingly i just found out the other day it can’t pass for that reason. just sucks bc there isn’t really a point doing all that especially w your cat working perfect but that’s life 🤷🏽♂️😂 I’ll definitely will I’m planning getting the new cat installed tomorrow can’t wait to pass it as well & be clear it’s my daily 6 days outta the week !🫡
Are you CA compliant now
I need a cat for my 2013 crosstrek. I'm in cali where did you find that sheet with the list of accepted cats.
Any Smog Station should have a list of acceptable Catalytic Converters for you. The one that was approved for my van isn't a direct fit product, just a universal product that is CA Approved. Let me know how it goes. I hope it isnt too expensive for you.
Where did u find a CA emmisions cat I need one for my 2012 Honda insight can’t find one anywhere
I don’t live in California btw

@@eon1085 No problem buddy if you haven't already can give this video a thumbs up. It helps my channel a lot.
Rich man converter
They stole my 2015 kia converter which comes with exhaust manifold , now im struggling to find one under 5k 😏
Have you contacted your insurance yet? They might replace it for the deductible
@@JohnDrivesAnything i did not had full cover insurance 😏
Where can i go to install a catalytic in my 2005 prius for cheaper in norcal? Thanks to anyone that might be ablevto help. 🙏😇
I would go to a smog station and ask them for a list of acceptable Catalytic Converters for your car. They should give you a list with different part #s to look up. Any smog shop can install it once you receive the converter. This might be an acceptable part to pass CA smog standards but I would confirm it with a smog tech first www.autozone.com/emission-control-and-exhaust/catalytic-converter/p/magnaflow-universal-carb-catalytic-converter-5671405/1208134_0_0?rrec=true
@@JohnDrivesAnything thanks for that John! I can't wait to ask the smog shop if that part from AutoZone you sent will do! It'll be great!!! Thank you thank you 🙏😇 ❤️🎊
@@willyd6335 Let me know how it goes so I can share this part if it's acceptable
