We're nearing the completion of our 2005 GSX-R750 trash or treasure project. Here we tackle some miscellaneous issues not easily categorized elsewhere; missing sub frame bolts, broken clutch return spring, broken gage cluster, broken TPS, leaking radiator, blah blah blah.

I don't know what it is, but I find watching Dave working on this bike to be very relaxing.
Put side stand down to stretch spring and fill with coins or washers. Lift the stand and spring will need no force to take off or on. Works great on centre stands. Thanks for your video. Hope i can get more involved on your website when I get adjustable suspension on my S1000xr
Clutch lever tip: Generally preferred to mount the lever first, before the cable. This gives the installer the opportunity to feel the smoothness of the clutch pivot action independent of any force or drag added by the cable. First set the bolt tension and lock nut for the lever, reducing lateral slop or play while stopping short of adding any unnecessary friction to the lever pivot. Then bring the cable in by first putting the cable end into it's seat on the lever, then push the cable through the slot to seat the cable housing. If more slack is necessary, loosen the coarse adjustment at the other end of the clutch cable.
Checking both cable and lever smoothness independently tells the installer which area if any needs attention with cleaning, lubrication or replacement.
Dave's patience and expertise is very impressive and these videos are great sources of instruction for lesser experienced mechanics and riders. The beauty of the internet is together we can share best practices and techniques we have all learned to bring everything possible together to best help the sport riding community.
Don't forget some bikes have a 3rd clutch adjustment on the pushrod if you run out on the cable. Helped me on my old SRAD

Seen some others max out the handle and then spend time near the clutch... when you ask them why they do it that way, some give you blank stares and others get the click moment as when riding you can adjust it on the fly if needed.

Ys, prices coming in a video for parts and labor. Note that we could not afford to create a "new" old GSXR750 with all original parts so we spent money the right way.

I guess that is how most people would rebuild a bike like that, with partly using second hand parts. Otherwise it would be an economical disaster..
About time dave this the longest bike rebuild ever lol. I know your a busy man but sheesh.
That's the way it rolls sometimes and it wasn't in the budget so we made it happen over time.

I can't wait to see that gsxr fully rebuild and ripping on track! Also like that you don't use power tools to unscrew bolts. Nothing wrong withh power tools but doing it by hands kinda feel '' natural''.

Agreed - only stubborn bolts get the assist like the side stand bolts.

so satisfying.. perhaps disappointed you didn't clean that piece inside when replacing the clutch spring, that was dirty
If the bike runs for 2000 mils without incident it will get a deep clean. Time is precious for other tasks like more filming, so the little things have to wait.

Its weird I have a 01 750 and when I changed the clutch cable I didn't see the return spring. I started reading and watching videos on other 01s and they don't have the spring either. It has a spot for it too but doesn't use it and works fine
You must use Locktite on every bolt on a Harley Davidson .. I lost the bolts in my side case brackets on an FZ-07 so I either used locktight .. Nylon Nuts or double netted the bolts.
I find the best tool for removing and installing little springs is just a pair of cutters, its near impossible to cut spring steel with cutters unless you are the hulk 🤣 but they always grip the springs perfectly 👌

The JIS type from Impacta are the best ones imho. They include an impact feature built in. Amazon sells them and the supplier is from Japan so they take a month to arrive. Also Mylers repairs japanese radiators.
I'm looking at the Vessel Megadora impacta as well. I've seen reviews on the ones he got and they say they're not "true" JIS. Not sure but I know the Vessel's are more expensive.

Just curious though if the bike is intended for track use why the need for a headlight and a sidestand
The bike is not intended for track use and will be a test mule purely for street testing (tyres, geometry, products).

Dave, just found your videos. Enjoying every one of them. I do question why you don't use power tools, especially during builds like this. Great battery powered ratchets and drivers out there.
hanks for your kind words. Agreed and those would make life so much easier! We decided to use what we had laying around to match the GSXR and make it a down and dirty series using the least amount of tools possible.The next studio will be "slightly" better equipped as I am thinking about looking for a tool sponsor for 2023.

Picked up my buddies 06' 600rr that got stolen an recovered, the theives crashed it, all fairings broken cracked or spray painted none of the headlights or front harness was connected with wires ripped from the headlight assembly an the turn signals on top of the fact my friend made a rats nest out of the harness to begin with tapping for LEDs an whatever other reason to splice wires, ive got it all back to new, next thing i tackle is rebuilding the harness which i fear the most lol it runs an rides but no headlights or front signals.

Will it work out to be a cheap bike, or did it need a load of money throwing at it to sort everything out?
It still has the original plugs in it and I haven;'t tried taking them out yet. That's the bike one we need to get through. We have a video coming out on final costs for the project and yes it needed a lot of time and quite a bit of $$. If the plugs strip or won't move then we are upside down by a huge amount.
You don't think it's a good idea to remove the oil pan and clean it on the inside on this bike? (And outside) Good video, Gixxers, so easy to work on.
Yes, great idea but not enough time to do that as we will be changing oil every 500kms for the first three changes to review the oil for metal.
@@catalystreactionsbw I noticed it's often dirt in the oil pan that will not come out with the oil, specially in the corners. Another question, so the japanese still uses the JIS standard?
@@H-M-78 100% agree. If the engine makes it to past 5,000 miles it will get a complete review, clean and refresh.
