XDL Champion Nick Apex and Ernie Vigil show us how the wheelie is done. Whether you're an aspiring stunter or a racer that just wants to know how to win a race in style. Obviously, riding motorcycles is a dangerous sport. Always wear the correct safety gear and never ride over your abilities.

when watching videos it makes it look so easy to get to balance point haha... keep this in mind when learning - 1) youre not as high as you think you are 2) balance point is about 2 feet past "holy f**k"

I have been riding a couple of months. Figure I will give it a good year or two or riding in different conditions and experimenting with the limits of various bikes before I try anything stupid. My question is this: How many times does the average joe, or you, eat pavement before you master the wheelie? Did it just click for you one day after working up to it slowly?

Josh Denham took me about 2 weeks to master wheelies , i ride a honda cbr500r so its slightly harder to do it since the bike is not that powerfull , once iv mastered it , i got to confident and landed bandly , came off amd bike landed on my leg breaking it in 4 places ....... my point is , its not that hard to learn its hard to control yourself once u do , good luck tho

    • @mike216ism
      @mike216ism 9 років тому +1

Not everyone will hit the pavement however if your out there doing them all the time your chances increase. Slow wheelies for newbs are dangerous and so are fast ones so take your time and take very small steps. It will come naturally if you get use to listening to your revs and the feeling of getting to balance point. Very small progress is still progress and as they say practice makes perfect. If these guys just road a occasionally wheelie they probably would never crash but there doing opposite of occasional wheelies

+Josh Denham I have been riding for years, bike only no car. I have 2014 Hayabusa and only just started practicing wheelies, got the power wheelie pretty good. I felt it was time to work on pivot point and crashed, busted my spleen and almost bleed to death two weeks ago. bike will be ok with new stator cover and fairings. Not trying to scare you but like this video it is very important to PRACTIC in a controlled environment, the curb almost killed me. Get good gear too. I cant wait to get back at it, but will use more caution for sure. Its not about how many times you crash, its about what you learn and how fast you learn it. stay up

These guys are awesome and it's sad to see all the ridiculous haters post there petty comments. Probably can't get the front wheel off the ground so they hate.
Actually I'd like to thank you guys for the excellent training techniques. I use to do power wheelies on my 1996 gsxr 750 that I owned around 10 years ago. Bought a 2005 gsxr 1000 around 4 months ago. This is no power wheelie bike because of the speeds needed to power wheelie. I feel good using the clutch now with there help. Taking it easy and learning at my own pace but I see progress every day and it's much safer using the clutch. Looking at the whole process as being one all together with clutch and gas helped me gas it up to balance point very consistently. Thanks guys and hope your still out there doing big things! Take care Street bike community

I was almost instantly able to feel out the balance and felt much more control. I'm 235lbs, and it takes a it more than 8K rpm to really dig in for my weight. Just as a note. Great video, best information I've found. Appreciate it. Houston, TX

  • @ArturIncognito
    @ArturIncognito 9 років тому

    It's easy to explain...
Just hit the maximum torqe NOT MAX POWER, the balance will flow towords max power along with increasing speed. The rule is simple: You got to stay within powerband (between max torqe - bout 1/3-4 max revs and max power - red pool)
as powerful bike You got as low revs You can use to begin, but it easier to add less gas about beginning of powerband.
If You start from max power revs the engine will not accelerate much. Poping up the bike = acceleration. High revs = short acceleration = short wheelie.
I found it the easiest to begin from a bit before power band (let me say 3/4 max torque). The acceleration is less brutal and gives You time to react instead of landing on Your back instantly...
The engine must be all the time accelerating a little (till You will get to the point of balance). IT DOESN'T EQUAL ROLLING GAS. Sometimes the bike will be still going up even if You are slowly releasing the gas... As high the bike is as low acceleration it needs closing to the point of balance = constant speed = endless wheelie.
I found it the easiest on my picky 160cc 2T with power valve to release the clutch at about 4000rpm's (on 4-stroke or without pover valve it will be lower). I keep the gas for a while at about 1/3 steady and engaging drive only by clutch holding all the time 4000RPMs than I kick it a little by gas on 3/4 of the throttle and it quickly goes up close to the point of ballance. If You go slow than bike don't need much throttle to keep the balance. If You go fast full throttle may not be enough.
Fast whellies are easier as engine is not brutally accelerating and rolling weels gives You proper balance on sides.
As low power is Your bike as low speed wheelies You got to begin with.

Mate.I bet you, more people died sliping on the grit stone coming out of bath or shower. Now that doesn't make this safe, but come on,guy's insisting on the"under the balance point"one's that are max like 60-80 cm height, and doing it standing up,wich is safer cuz you don't need so much gas and can put the bike down easier. It's not sleeping like safe, but isn't playing with explosives either. This are done at max 40-50km/h,with gear, its preety safe. From this to disrespecting the dead,is kinda long way

Well im not a fan of the ideea, just because, there's so manny thing that can go wrong, and like the rule of nature say,if something CAN go wrong,IT WILL,but 30,max 60 cm of the ground isn't very dangerous,he is over reacting, and actually, despite it looks otherwise,as the guy says, wheelie standing up is safer, lots more control, and no need of so much gas to keep it up.

@synthpathetic OMG You really think I was serious!!!??? If you don't get the instruction then maybe you really should stick to four wheels. And watch it with the name calling. It was uncalled for.

Could you have not found a decent looking woman to have done the intro??. I get the impression that you just grabbed the first thing with a pair of fits that would ware the shirt, and say the line for £5

Awesome, after watching numerous videos on 'how to' and trying and trying I watched you guys once, and first attempt, up came the front, sure, it'll only have been a couple inches but it felt like a foot or two and left me grinning, such a straightforward and easy explanation, none of this 'bring the throttle on fairly rapidly and feed the clutch' nonsense. So big thumbs up, first proper deliberate wheelie off the clutch , great clear instructions, thanks

Starting to get a hang of throttle control and balancing with gas. It seems however that just a minute difference in seating position changes how the bike will turn when popping it. How to control sideways balance?

This won't work on my bike. It's a 250rr. Revs to 19k redline with next to no torque on low revs

In my mind: "Whoa this is awesome! I'm giving it a go, just pop and blip!"
Reality: "F**K, why did I try that, now my bike is all scratched up n sh*t!"
I'm still going to give it a go :D

8.000 rps? and pop it? at that RPMs bike will flip and for a split second will become airborn.

FOR EVERYONE NEW TO SPORTBIKES AND WHEELIES...They should have started out their video by saying #1. Go buy a 50 tooth rear sprocket lmao.#2. Go down 2 teeth in the front... #3. Go let out half the air out of your rear tire. And as a side note they should tell you that you probrably won't be able to keep up with your buddies on the street going to the mall cause you now own a unicycle instead of a sportbike... Have fun doing wheelies at 20mph... IF YOU WANT TO DO WHEELIES, BUY A 1000 & ROLL ON

The 1st guy on the drag strip probably had a stock sprocket setup & is why he is flying while doing his wheelie, because he still has his top-end.. That's a stunt!... These so called "stunters" giving you advice on how to wheelie have gone out and bought stunt sprockets, which means that instead of having 42 teeth on the rear, they have around 50 or more. By doing that or by decreasing the amount of teeth on their front sprocket it massively increases torque making it ridiculously easy. LAME

you obviously never owned textile, yes i agree with the jeans but i highsided at 70+ and my textile kept my skin in tact just as good as my winter leathers. Plus leather will cook you mid august when its close to 100 degrees outside where textile breathes well while still protecting you as good as leather and having armor lined inside for back, shoulders, elbows, arms etc. NOT TO MENTION leather is very hindering for a stunt rider and can cause a few problems with movement while stunting.

Ok now dont use new gsxr to learn the wheelie get old 99 r600cc remove the fairing and rherfore u wont care if u smash it i see many guys just being afraid to learn on newish bikes and with a reason, my only advice on how to learn to do a wheelie is dont be afraid (how can balance be explained) ?it will come natural once u pop up for a few feet further every time and after a few months u will find a point to stay and go the distance

  • @MutsuKazuma

cause it weighs around 210kg needs high revs to get torque so it combines the heavy weight of a big 1000cc and the rev hunger of a small 600cc, and most 1000cc's are actually lighter these days, a friend of mine has one and he is just a reckless idiot with no awareness of his health and he tried to wheelie his gsxr 750, without a lot of success regardless of the method he used, those two in the video could do it, but none of us has those skills

I find the easy way to start wheelies is bring rpm to about 7000 in second gear, let of the gas abit pull up abit and give some gas. My 03 r1 goes up slow enough not to flip and is not too scary. I will try to use the clutch feathering method one day though, when I get a little better, btw I been riding bikes on and off for over 20 years and still haven't managed to get the hang of wheeling.

I have a 2011 GSXR 750. I have been trying to get the wheel of the ground just an inch. I can't seem to do it. I know it is nerves. If I start out in 1st gear and roll about 10mph and I do what u explained. My problem had been bring in the stock clutch lever with one Finger. It seems too stiff and I have very small hands. Do u have a fixes or tips that can help me. I feel if i can use me one finger I could do it. Because I feel way Morris stable holding on the bars with four fingers. Plz help.

Does anyone know what RPM he was when he dumped the clutch they say don't rev it up but it seemed like he was going 4-6 mph and just pulled in the clutch and hit the gas. From my minor knowledge of wheelies it doesn't just happen like that and I have a huge sprocket I can do power ups in first gear but I want to know how he was able to do that at such slow speed without revving

"On your bike it's about 8-9000 rpm", well, my bike only go to 6800, and it pops wheelies from about 2000 without using the clutch :) It seems on this vid as it's alot more effort to do a wheelie with a 4-banger compared to a high torque V-twin? Yet still so many stunters use 4-bangers? I don't get it :o

Been riding super sport for 12 years, I never cared to do wheelies or other stuff, just ride well in turns and stuff. I just purchased a 2012 CBR600 and decided to do some wheelies. Given that the bike is a 600 clutching it up is the only way to do it. Good video, if you want to learn wheelies this is how its done.

forgot to mention they also make Kevlar laced riding jeans that hold up to high speed skidding on your ass just as good as leather. expensive but IMO one of the best investments ive made in my day to day riding gear. for someone such as my self who daily rides everywhere full leathers are simply impractical. i cant show up for work in leather pants lol...but i`m still protected

i wanted to know are you supposed to shut off the throttle as u bring the clutch in before you pop it and then turn the throttle and pop the clutch or keep the throttle the same and then give it more as you pop the clutch? and for sum reason when i try popping the clutch sometimes the rear wheel spins and it doesnt lift. dont know what im doing wrong there.

Ok so I should let the clutch popping at something around 4000rpm they said? And if it wouldnt work, I have to try 5000rpm, 6000rpm until I find the perfect rpm for my weight and bike.
But whats if I make sth wrong and kill the engine on the rear tire? Wouldnt the engine break kick my ass then? Little bit scared 'bout this, pls answer me?
