    My fav subject & biggest strength has always been MATHS (& STATISTICS). I can tell you Maths is super fun, playing around with geometry( & coordinates), vectors in Graphics/Modelling classes was awesome. And then, it helped me with making my own shaders. I love it & I hope I can spread my enthusiasm to others.

Otherwise I will pursue a more independent route and develop more seriously with a few friends and colleagues. It is always good to have a general plan even if it changes from time to time.

    If you want to program games, specially 3D games, you already have the motivation to learn math.
    Don't let people trick you into avoid math, today's engines do a lot for you, but to be an effective programmer in this field, math is definitely needed.
    Don't be scared, programming can increase your IQ and make it easier for you to understand mathematical concepts, when you see, you'll be working alongside with Dave freaking Smith...

      Jakub Ivanič Sorry to burst your bubbles, but saying "it's not that hard" is a huge understatement. People have compared game programming against rocket science, literally. It takes years upon years of training, and unless you find yourself very talented, don't think about getting hired, just keep learning, crunching and doing whatever it takes, because it's going to take years. This might sound cold, but be ready for a hell of a ride.

      How is it going?

      @kameronbriggs235 4 роки тому

      @@martinandrejko4090 pretty good. Ive kinda diverted from the APIs and shaders. I'm working freelance now using threeJS... which... is meh...
      But im doing procedural modeling of their products, like im writing the algorithms for it so clients can easily layout their rather complicated product and view it in realtime in a web browser...
      I'm going to reverse engineer Tribes 2 and replace its render engine though, and create procedural map editing tools to describe structural geology and rock fabrics though. My render engine has been neglected though xD

    • @kameronbriggs235
      @kameronbriggs235 4 роки тому

      @@martinandrejko4090 Its a really really really deep field. Oh and i got a medical device on the back burner for now for detecting cancer... since im busy working.

    • @martinandrejko4090
      @martinandrejko4090 4 роки тому

      @@kameronbriggs235 so what are your goals now will you or did you apply for naughty dog ? Did you work with apis and shaders only or did you work with gpu ? What IS threeJS Java script ? How much do u make per month? Are u working alone ? Please response I might have few more questions

    • @kameronbriggs235
      @kameronbriggs235 4 роки тому +1

      @@martinandrejko4090 I am currently working alone. i charge $65 an hour. ThreeJS.js is basically a high level library that abstracts away A LOT, so you dont have to actually make any GL calls, but for instance i still wrote my own loader because im manipulating vertex data.
      Yeah ive written glsl. My engine is super embarassing.... i need to completely re-write it. Personally to me, its now trash. It reflects where i was when i started learning GP and writing it. I have read over GCN 3.0 specs in order to put my shader code into ideal case for the compiler to make sure it compiles down into optimized assembly instructions like MADD and whatnot. This is sooooo embarassing, but you can look at it if you want. I am proud of my shader optimizations though, just ignore the trash branching for parallax occlusion mapping, i was expirimenting. gah soo embarassing. github.com/Kamjam21xx/KameronsRenderEngine/blob/master/src/OpenGlCourseApp/Shaders/framebufferBlur.frag
      so i think it will take a while still to apply to a place like naughty dog. I havent studied navier stokes and implemented fluid dynamics simulations, or cloth, or volumetrics, or a physics engine. Graphics is SUPER deep. Learning GP 16 hours a day made my brain feel like it was tearing apart lol. Im have yet ti implement entity component. A full lifetime isnt even enough to learn everything.

    I love math, but I think game development is a quiet risky job, cause many can lose there job very quickly. The developers at big studio doesn't have that much freedom in choices. They have to develope everything that the publisher put in front of them. Big franchises must have come out quickly these days and the publishers will make pressure on that fact too, cause they put alot of money in a game.

    Hmmm, I love math, and I play games like it's a flippin' day job, and I'm a software major in college.
    My only problem is that I haven't gotten far enough to have any useful programming knowledge to actually apply to a gaming project. Not to mention I haven't actually played with DirectX or even what language(s) they use. I'm mostly focusing on C#/Java/C++, and those are pretty popular, so I would imagine they use something within those languages.
    I don't know, my biggest problem with these sorts of jobs is my fear of under-performance. If they hired me and threw me into a project, I'm afraid I might not even have the programming knowledge to even perform the task. Solving the logic of the problem is one thing, but not knowing the language enough to bring your solution to fruition is another.

    These guys are the unsung heroes of Naughty Dogs success. It's generally been the big names in design like Amy Henning and Neil Druckmann, as well as big name game directors like Bruce Strailey and Justin Redmond that always got the most praise from last games from Uncharted 2 all the way to TLOU.
    They obviously deserved every single ounce of all that praise, but these programmers make it possible for those creative genius' to be able to make such amazing games so without them none of it is possible.
    As the dude said in the video, Naughty Dog are the best in the industry.
    Fact.

    I think, when you work at Naughty Dog, you can be so proud of the game you've worked at. I can't imagine, that IW, Treyarch or Sledgehammer can be really proud of their 'Call of Duty' at the end. Maybe this is not really their fault, because they have just limited freedom, because of Activision, but who knows.

      Jimmy Harry you heard them,they want you to know math.You can be creative but you need to know some math.With python you can easily count 2+2 just tupe 2+2 and result will come by itself.I think that that little things made a Python most powerful programming language of all.

      actually programming is easier than math because you have visuals that show you what's going on and you also know what you want to make this code for,in math i used to solve problems that i don't understand the point of or didn't care about the end result. what they mean by being good at math (espeacially calculus) is that you'll need the same thinking of math solving like connecting a certain variable to a certain event

    • @ameerabdallah5429
      @ameerabdallah5429 4 роки тому

      Aleksandar Zdravkovic Python is by no means the most powerful programming language. It is much slower than an optimized C++ program and is really only good for scripting and machine learning. On top of that, knowing linear algebra and basic calculus is a must in the game dev industry. Knowing dot products and matrix multiplications, transformation matrices, etc. simple addition and subtraction will only get you so far but for complex 3D simulations, learning all of that is essential.

    I suck at Math. I Hate Math. But I have a major passion for Video Games! I Grew up with Video Games!
    I'm more on the "Creative" side of making video games, like: Story telling, Character design, ...etc.
    And I don't like to write scripts and scenarios or whatever, and i'm not the best artist in drawing! But I always come up with ideas! I write the stories and characters and how events would unfold and all that in my head and I would love to share them with others! And so far, I came up with ideas for *more* than 6 games (including 3 PlayStation All-Stars games) And I would be *Extremely Happy* to work with you guys, *Especially since i'm a big fan of your games*! :D

    To all those in the comment section saying that math isn't really that important in programming. You are wrong. I just started 1. semester as a software developer in the IT University of Copenhagen and math plays a huge role in my course. I have an entire course called discrete mathematics where we learn everything from graphs, number theory, discrete probability to propositional logic. It is these mathematical skills (and other stuff such as responsibility-driven design) that seperates someone with a degree in computer science or software development from some guy in India who can do the same work for 1/8 of a software developers salary.

    I understand the need for maths in programming (as I am a programmer) but my maths isn't well versed but I know how to google the maths I need. I did once learn calculus but I have forgotten most of what I learned. However I know how to goto google and check what combo of sin/cos/tan I need to use for a particular problem. I have worked on several games, two published, have over 30 years experience with computer games, 15 years programming, well versed with unreal engine 3 and doing well with 4. Working on a solo project game currently, doing everything in all areas. And with all this and no maths qualifications..... I wouldn't stand a chance. Top companies like this want savants because they can pay for them.
