I'm just finishing up a computer science degree, and I really want to get into video game development. I play indie games almost constantly, and I love the idea of making something of my own that I myself and other people can enjoy, but I keep holding myself back because I'm scared and don't know where to start. This video was definitely helpful and inspiring to me, and it makes me feel like I actually have a shot at gaining the skills I need and making something cool!

I would recommend doing a game developer as a hobby and actually doing front end is what I'm doing now is hard being a game developer you need to learn the game engine learn to make music and art and animation and be creative and have imagination is a strong key there so much competition now
Bro I just learned that the college Im planning on attending next year also has Japanese courses, which I've wanted to do since middle school. Combining that with game development could lead me to working for a Japanese developer like FromSoftware!
If you’re from the West (Europe, America, Australia) think twice before moving to Japan. There’s no 8 hour workday, 45 minutes lunch break and 5 weeks paid vocation there. If they’re alive they work.
@@pitoblogg not necessarily true, yes Japan’s work schedule can be nearly double the USA, but there are jobs in America that can be exactly that if not worse.They have days off and holidays off
Good like, and dont skip out on math. Math is the essence of computer graphics. Learn as much linear algebra and calculus as possible, and trigonometry of course

These videos are really helpful, I watch them with my friends on Voicely whenever we practice coding. We all agree that we learned more from UA-cam videos than from school lol
I studied two years to try and get an A.S. in engineering and pursue mechanical engineering. But at the end of these two years, I realized that I don't much like some of the classes I had to take for engineering. Now, I'm planning on doing game development, but this time with a set plan and goal for me to achieve. I was scared at first with me getting into college, but now I see game development as something I can achieve if I just try harder. This video helped me see that some of the classes I've taken will pay off in helping me get started with game development. I hope that in a few years, I can go back to this video and say that I have become a game developer. I'll be adding this to my motivation playlist. Thank you for the tips.

I've been playing video games since I was about 6 years old and I'm now a 32 year old woman, for a while I've been having the urge to take one of my favorite hobbies farther and hopefully achieve success doing the games itself being a great developer in a team but I'm still deciding what role should I take in a team. It would also be amazing to end up doing a good demo and be selected by a high end company like PlayStation, Nintendo and Xbox.

Thats awesome, just a word of advise, you should start learning a lot of lineat algebra and calculus, they are very necesarry in the field of game dev, also learning a programming language, I would start with C and eventually once youre confident learn C++

I never really liked web development and I always had a thing for game development. Recently I decided that I should start learning the skill I ' ll need for my future but when I searched on the web it showed a lot of things and I didn't know where to start. I watched this video 3 years after it's making. I want to be a AAA game developer at naughty dog. But the exposure of making such high graphic games is not that intense in our country. Anyone with guidance is always welcomed.
Interesting, I am currently about to finish a Python course, soon I will start advanced Python, in the meantime, I am learning C++ and to tell the truth, it was not difficult to understand the syntax of a different language, unfortunately I do not have enough equipment to start developing small and simple video game prototypes, although I have several prototype ideas in mind, I know that if I practice every day, apart from the fact that I will continue to develop my programming logic further, developing the prototype of a video game will not be difficult, maybe a little, but with enough knowledge, it will even be fun, don't give up, future developer, remember that if you can imagine it, you can program it.

I was unlucky that in my college years, you generally only had 1 option in IT. Which were basically programming for databases and networking. While I specifically went to learn coding and (graphics) designing to create games. I learned the graphics part on my own, also because I had a real knack and passion for it. Coding was more difficult, as information to code for gaming or even a game-engine, were hard to come by (or expensive).
Now, almost 2 decades further, our country finally is getting a gaming-industry and there are classes you can follow. I hope I can start in September and hopefully they're not too basic, as I already have some basics.
I already tried creating a game twice, sort of. First time was more than a decade ago, supposed to be a fighting game or beat'em up. I got my character modelled (not textured) and even rigged for facial animation. But I soon realized that coding and balancing a fighting game is really hard to do. So much to consider and take into account. And there wasn't even a decent free engine that could provide what I needed.
Two years ago, I started again, but with another genre I liked and more manageable (for a single game dev), an arcade racer. Luckily I was able to pick up Blender easily where I left of (they also made it more user-friendly). And found a decent free game-engine: Godot. Atleast good enough to give me the taste of game-creation and create a tiny concept. I have some videos on my game-dev channel: 'Close Call Racing'on channel 'eyeEmotion'.
I have been on a break from it because of renovations at home, which I have to execute myself. And I'm changing to Unreal Engine, since its change in licensing and it's more friendly to devs who are more into designing than programming. I just need that game-dev 1 year course to get the ball rolling again and keep me motivated when I get stuck and the information I need.
Too me it’s someone who cares about the game they’re making and put so much work into their coed no matter how long it takes they want their game to be perfect for the people who play it and want a community and are open to tips because they want too be better

So far this has been the clearest step by step but still lacking where these resources are but been under a rock for 10yrs on tech stuff. Physical labor I had to get out of and I know I got brush up on math but I was studying intro to trig and calculus in 9th while in algebra. If you correct and show your smarter than the teacher the fail you and deny the extra credit boy dose that f up a feature.
I’d love to be a triple A game developer, I have a degree in chemistry but I recently reconnected with my passions and realised above all things I absolutely always loved games that’s one of the things I’ve never gotten tired of. I absolutely love video games, I never get bored or tired of them. I love coding too I wasn’t exposed to it until I started university. The two together?! That sounds so fun, the ability to create the unknown and the real creation goes out across the world for people to enjoy and play and I get to change them and add to them. It sounds so fun I hope I’m not too late to do it 😊

For anyone who wants to become a game dev, just know its hard. very hard. Game development involves a lot of complicated math like linear algebra, not only that but youd need to have a lot of experience programming. Although I think anyone can do it with the right mindset, I also think its important to be realistic. If youre not good at math or you hate programming, maybe you dont really want to be a game dev.
I suck at math and I have never programmed anything in my life but I really feel like I want to try, is there anything realistic that I could do instead of being a programmer you think?

I was considering about joining a coding bootcamp program for possible game dev applications and job fittings afterwards. Most bootcamps I have come across are primarily web development for tech companies and job placement with companies like google, apple, etc. Are there any game dev bootcamps similar to those? Do they have a high percentage hire rate within so many months after completing their program?

Dude my dream is to work i with some big triple A company and make some great games that will be staples in the industry. Currently im working on my art skills, next year imma try to get into a coding class to learn how to code. From the moment i gained consciousness to now ive played videogames my entire life. My parents said i even had a gameboy sp when i was like 1 or 2. Ive loved videogames and the idea of creating videogames i tried making one when i was younger but i didnt know how to code or what i was doing. Ive had this passion for a while but never knew where to start but know that im getting older i believe i have more accessibly to this passion, for it to become something greater.

I think the first thing you need to have to be a game developer is to be creative and have imagination. Everyone wants to be a game developer till they find out they have no idea what kind of game they want to make because if you don't have creativity or imagination you are ready to fail building a game.

I just wish I could talk to a developer/developers to get some more insight. I began learning modeling in Blender as I decided to make a skin for a game (Actually was considered and I even sent my files for the skin. Sadly the game sunsetted before the next community bundle would come out). I really enjoyed the ability to create anything. I do have some issues with coming up with something to make so I mostly tinker with tutorials and pplaying around in blender these days. I Really wanna get into the gaming industry and I kinda have a fascination for coding as well tho I'm terrible with math and my small coding experience is mostly based on trial and error method as I find that more doable than actual math. Been considering going to a school for game development but I feel lost to what to dive into and kinda wish there was a jack of all trades to start with to get an insight. sadly need more schooling in math or programming and I'm personally just tired of prep education, and I'm currently working mmyself to death at a dead end job so my energy level to just self educate is way too low too often to really give it a go.
Kinda wish there was a complete kinda master class or something where you can just jump in and do a little of everything to create a prototype game to get into the whole thing.
I want to start in the indie genre to get started and even main game dev path but my dream is to make a AAA mistborn game
ye Ima definitely be that AAA person but I'm starting to realize how long that's gonna take me to get to that skill, hopefully it works out for me, also In my school they had me doing sum C# for simple code programming, and I think that's what got that idea for a job, so technically I had the idea since I was in 6th grade, now that I'm in 9th, I think I might start to try out these seemingly useful tips for me

This has been my dream since I was 5 years old. No cap I was already messing with an NES controller when I was an infant. I was a weird infant I didn’t crawl I just started walking.
So I have some ideas.
I wanna kinda be a multi-talent so I can be an integral part in all aspects of my games creation, broadly of course cause no ones a one man army, But i want to specialize in the design and visual parts of the game as I think thats where im best suited, But I want enough to understand and assist the coding individuals in realizing the vision without saddling them with too much nonsense.
How could I find this balance?
Some requirements I know i'll need would be some more polished artistic capabilities and (which I think I already have to an extent) the ability to Formulate, articulate and communicate ideas for the game.
Then probably some bare minimum coding capabilities to get a demo going to get backings/generate interest and to understand more complicated books on it.
Could I get a realistic interpretation of this brainstorm? Am I too scattered or is this pretty par?
my dream is to work for Ubisoft or PlayStation because I want to make educational video games for people with learning differences is there any advice you have for someone who has a learning difference and is trying to make it in the industry.
Can anyone suggest that if I wanna be in a programming field in game development. Is python also a good option to choose as your programming language?

hi there. This was a great video that has told me exactly what i need to know. Could you recommend some groups/communities that accept someone with no experience at all. I have a physical version of my game and i know the rules inside and out. I have learnt how to draw digitally and am transferring the art into a format that can be used in the game i want to make and a community that is welcoming and that gives feedback/advie would be awesome.
Im sure there are many programming groups that accept beginners, just tell them what languges you know, and how good you are at math, and youll probably be accepted by any group

When going on game dev career path always start with art, art is a number 1 thing you should learn no matter if you are programmer or whoever else, 90% of what games do has to do with art, if you know how 3d meshes and animation is made then you will be able to recognise the mistakes and you will know how to fix them, even if you are not artist opening 3d engine like blender importing someone elses mesh and "fixing" it will help you massively, besides that when you finally start to learn "programming" or "game engine" if you know how 3d art works everything will become 100 times more simple to understand so if you are just starting on your "journey" close that game engine, download blender and spend 1 year learning about topology, rigging, materials and textures.

It's not necessary to do double maths so don't worry :) as long as you're still doing core maths then you're fine. Also maths is only really important for a programmer role
