These are all great examples. I also really like the one where Jason Schwartzman keeps talking about his kids at the party, and Tim keeps making a scene until he loosens up and has a great time.
There's a surprising amount of pathos in a lot of this show's sketches, and the amazing thing is that they pull that off well while still making the sketches hilarious. The Claire's one is absolutely tragic but I still laugh every time I watch it.

My head canon for the Darmine Dog Door sketch was always that Tim's character created the thing and is trying to market it himself, the pig incident influenced him to both quit his previous job that he hated, and design a product that would prevent that from ever happening to him again.

That's how I interpret it as well. I love the idea that this man who is feuding with this neighbor, hates his job, and is insecure in his marriage decides that the real problem is that things can get in through his door.
It's such a good juxtaposition between all that ails him and what he devises as a solution. Great stuff, there are a lot of people who act in this way

I try to tell people that this is the best written show on television, usually they'll laugh and dismiss it, but when I find somebody who really appreciates it too I know I've found someone who is high not just in critical thinking, but also empathetic and open minded about quickly being able to jump between other people's perspectives. Every element of this show is expertly crafted, no line is filler and no delivery of any of those lines is anything short of masterful.

Those two Patti Harrison sketches back to back made me realize it truly is a full circle moment. Making a joke about Christmas coming early in the office and then she’s at an office Christmas party being appreciated. Maybe it was that little interaction with Tim’s character that made her strive to do her best 🥲

I loved the episode about the doggy door. It was comical but when he started talking about being relieved a pig monster was going to kill him, because he thought "at least i dont have to go to work tomorrow" its funny, but it is so real too, because he poses a question in the end: "what the f*ck are they doing to us?" Meaning most of us have to work and work, sometimes 2, even 3 jobs just to make ends meet and we have no time for anything else but work....it hit hard but was comical at the same time.

One thing I love about the driving crooner is that he's so sure the fish saved his life for a reason and that reason HAS to be his career ambitions...but actually he's already doing something amazing, which is being a sober driver for his friends. He's probably saved many lives this way, but he's so focused on his stupid driving crooner idea that he doesn't realize he's already fulfilled his own destiny.

A few years ago I was in a really rough place, I had gone through some serious medical trauma and didn’t think I’d ever be okay again. In the midst of a bad depressive episode, I scrolled the Internet for something to occupy my mind. Found I Think You Should Leave. The prank show skit was the first one I watched. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. As I devoured the entire show (just the first two seasons then), my entire life situation just evaporated in a hail of nonstop laughter. Looking back on it, I think that was the first moment I knew I’d be okay after all.
    Comedy is not meaningless, folks.

Another banger of a video from this channel. I've found myself recommending this show to others for its antidepressant qualities too, and you did a good job here of explaining why that descriptor feels accurate. It's not just about it being funny, since plenty of comedies do that effectively but don't quite seem to fit the label. ITYSL feels uniquely deserving of it for those uplifting moments and for how low-stakes and absurd their setups can get. It's just hilarious in a way that's perfect for dark times.

You absolutely have to talk about the haunted house sketch because the ending of it really revealed the untold message/explanation all together for me. I break into tears every time without fail when his old hyper-Christian mom picks him up after getting kicked out. The storytelling through the Christian iconography on the mom's dashboard, which is indicative of the household Tim Robinson's character grew up in (and why he acts the way he does throughout the sketch), is so powerful and honestly just a master-class in unspoken storytelling.

Whilst watching this video I felt a strange sense of familiarity with the concept of sentimental absurdism. Then I realised that familiarity was an anime called space dandy. I know anime is quite quirky at times and tough to get into if you're not used to it. But I really enjoyed your retrospective and would really recommend you check out space dandy. I think you could make a really good video on it!
    Cheers!

I watched all the way up to the printer joke and immediately went to watch the show. That bit of writing alone made me want to check it out.

My favorite part is the "turning the tables". The gift receipt skit is one of my favorite, you think Tim's playing the crazy one but then everyone gradually sides with him and the completely normal guy suddenly becomes the asshole. That element of surprise makes it 100x better. Tim could have just gone off the deep end and everyone could have turned on him but the twist of everyone being on his side is what elevates the whole sketch.

Bob Odenkirk in a "behind the scenes" thing of w/ Bob & David was referring to a similar sketch where Bob plays a kind of loser, unsuccessful salesman, and Bob, watching the sketch, saw his character wincing in the sketch and said "I love playing that pain." He's right.

I will say, while I’ve seen it done in movies and longer narrative art, I’ve never seen it done with sketch comedy like ITYSL does

You should probably put "youtube documentary" or something in the title for the longest time I thought this was just someone uploading clips of the show, and it made it hard for me to find this specific video again, lol.
