I’ve been making apple cider vinegar, water and salt pickled red onions all through my pregnancy this year. They are great for you, so quick to make and even my toddlers love them.
Yes please share the recipe or at least tell us what that’s supposed to look like. My relative sent me a jar of peppers and spices in a clear liquid with no explanation. It was leaking liquid out the side of the lid. When I opened the jar it started bubbling aggressively. So after it calmed down I closed it again, but then it developed a white film on top. I didn’t know if it was safe to eat or toxic. My relative never got back to me. She probably thought I was stupid for asking.
Hey dude, your video pushed me to try making this finally after seeing it on sooo many cooking channels. Didn’t have peppercorns (living in China atm so some ingredients are hard to come by) so I improvised with some cut up fresh Chili Peppers 指天椒 and the flavor is amaaazing! Thanks for the inspiration
Its pickled AND refrigerated.. it can last a whole lot longer than 2 weeks jfyi. You could literally come back and eat these in 2 years and theyd be fine.
I’ll keep saying it, best short format cooking videos ever. You nail it every time. I love this recipe and my only addition is a star anise to the brine cause I love that flavor, my wife doesn’t so we make one of each
I make them all the time! Same recipe, but without bay leaves.... I give them out and in a few days, i get the jars back with a request to fill them back up!!! Sooo good!
There's a Mexican side dish that I think has jalapeno, carrot and onion that I'd like to see a recipe for and also for giardiniera. I love condiments and love your channel. Thank you so much.
I grow an enormous vegetable garden! Why I don't do more of this each season is beyond me! You have inspired me with excitement...Thank you!! I have just subscribed.
Thanks for the refresher. I used to make pickled onions BITD and when I tried a month ago, my bonehead forgot the sugar. 🤦♀️ I vowed to never do it again but the algorithm must’ve felt my pain and sent me this!!! 👍👊
I don’t even watch many UA-cam cooking channels or shorts, but when I see you have a new one I immediately click. Your style is different and I just prefer it to others 😭💕
If youre lazy like me but loves pickled onions don't bother with the boiling. Just pour a 50/50 mix of warm water & vinegar, a handful of spices like paprika/chili flakes/peppercorns, and a dollop of honey. Mix well (I just shake it) and throw in the fridge overnight and you're golden. I find boiling everything beforehand largly unnecessary unless you're trying to achieve a specific flavor through the spices youre using.
Underrated channel asf the production quality goes crazy
Thank you so much I appreciate that
@@Jose.elCookcould you please post your recipe in written form, please and thank you.
I feel like you don't know what underrated means
@@geegaw1535He did, you just watched it😂
You know what else is underrated? Engine 4 Coffee!
Thank you for caring about everyone enough to share your recipes! God bless you.

Equal parts vinegar and water?
@@ThingsILove2266 Yes, heat them gently together on the stove so that the salt dissolves. I usually use a 1Ltr glass jar and around 2tbsp of sea salt.
1 LTR GLASS JAR SO its 500ml apple cider vinegar and 500 ml water and 2tbsp salt? thank you and can the same also be used for carrots@@FlapjackR
add some oregano, honey, and peppercorns it’s so much better like from a taco shop
@@vprox147 that sounds SO good:)
This is really one of the best food channels.
Agreed. This guy knows his craft and is super easy to watch.
I think your so good because you seem to enjoy what your doing😊
I appreciate that thank you 😊
I ferment shaved carrots and jalapeños, very tasty.
Do you do a salt brine to ferment?
How do you do it ? Share the recipe please.
Oh yummmmmmm…….
Mmmmm

Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes with us!! Legitimately curious why a paper towel vs just sealing the jar with a lid? Thank you!!!
To keep the brine above the onions.
Can you please explain what is the purpose of the paper towel or cheese cloth that you recommend to use at the end of the video?
to keep everything at the top wet and submerged
I only add lemon juice, garlic power, salt, cilantro, ground pepper, oregano and water let it sit over night and enjoy.
Thank you thank you thank you for telling us the expiration date that is helpful😅😊❤

Those jars of pickled veggies and tepache in mexico and southern Cali are the bomb!!!
Thank you now I can have them too😊
Can't wait to try this! Love your style--great videos!
Love your prepping, spicing, & cooking ways!!!❤❤❤
I don't know if this counts but I love just leaving them to soak in pure lime juice. No vinegar no water and they come out amazing
Yep. Lemon juice for me.
Oh I know. I do the same.
Thanks for sharing your pointers & recipes.
Garlic, obviously. Its a must. I can't cook without garlic and onions.
I love pickled onions, will try your recipe ❤
Those onions look so good! I’d probably just eat them straight from the jar, though -
Haha I fell yoy I'm the same
@@Jose.elCook can I use half portion of apple cider vinegar and water since I don't have red wine vinegar ?
@Jose.elCook
Can you explain the purpose for the cheese cloth or paper towel?
@@carmelitajones7779it's to keep the onions from floating up, so they stay submerged in the brine.
@@distanthope9153
Oh thanks.
I've been experimenting with pickling English cucumbers and chives with a bit of roasted chili flakes, I want to pickle everything now 😢
OMG I made these. So delicious
I also use the pickles juice, it gives the onions the sweet flavour of the pickles
What I like to do when I pickle red onions Is add yellow bell peppers; It adds a nice sweetness.
Chef Jose you are my new favorite! Learning so much.
I love my pickled onions!!
Ever since the pandemic there have been a million UA-cam chefs get huge, but your channel is the best
I do it a little bit differently.
Same onions, same sugar, BUT, I only add ACV. 😋
(apple cider vinegar) 👍🏻
I did this yesterday and i dont like it...
ACV Actually, it makes it too pungent
I make them all the time! Same recipe, but without bay leaves.... I give them out and in a few days, i get the jars back with a request to fill them back up!!! Sooo good!
Honestly best cooking videos since babish was small. You deserve the best amigo!!

Brother that looks so good, love pickling and red onions. Winner bud
They last way longer than 2 weeks, but the onions will lose their colour over time
2 years
And it will taste more and more acidic
Add beet juice for better color
I grow an enormous vegetable garden! Why I don't do more of this each season is beyond me! You have inspired me with excitement...Thank you!!
I have just subscribed.
If you grow cauliflower, I cannot recommend pickling it enough. Best thing ever
If you wanna push it over the top, slice up a couple habaneros and mix them in with the onions before you pour the brine in there!
Looks delicious, will be made here :)
I made these today and they are ridiculously good! Thanks for recipe!❤
Looks great! For anyone trying this, be careful not to break the bay leaves. They’re not edible and-believe it or not-may cause harm when ingested.
😅why is UA-cam sending me so much recipes for pickled onions? Is this a message that I need to make one? 😂
Yes. 😂
Fye 🔥🔥
If if you want fast flavor pour your brine and place your onions in a bag and vacuum seal it and one hour later!! It is like a week soaking
Luv you show. Thank you for sharing your gift.

I throw in some allspice berries, too! ❤
Wow again -pickled onions or radishes are essential for tacos. I just quickpickle them but guess I need to up my game. Wine vinegar nice touch.

The color that red onions give off after pickling is unreal. It's half the flavor tbh
That looks tasty I might try making it sometime
Just made my first ever batch!

My eyes are watering just watching him cut those onions
I've tried to like pickled onions, sumac onions, etc...🫤 I like onions with salt and lime best 🧅🍋🧂😌
