I wash my windshield in the evening with a paper towel and pharmaceutical spirit. In the morning, at -10°C, the windshield is clean and has no iceing on it.

This is no discovery I have known it for a long time. Now cleaning the car window is not a problem. In 1970, I used potatoes to clean windows in my Seat, because at that time there were no window cleaners available in Poland.

You can get motorcycle visor anti fogging spray. Spray on, wait a minute or two and buff off. Viola.
Neat washing up liquid (Fairy liquid) or for my American friend’s dish soap. Use a very small amount on a terry towel, wait five minutes and buff off. Works a trick!

If I had to put a finger on where this horse excrement came from it was probably back in the mid 1980s when I saw an old man on TV doing this. We tried this on my parent’s 1984 GMC Jimmy and streaked the window up so bad Windex wouldn’t even take it off. My dad had to use a rag soaked in lacquer thinner and that did the trick. We later learned other people in our neighborhood saw that and tried it only to end up with the same disastrous results we did.
I think that old man was just some old fool having a laugh to see how many fools would try this! Well, I was a fool to and a fool is only a fool until they get burned then a fool no longer they are.
