    So glad I ran across you on UA-cam. You have really improved my guitar playing so much. I am so fond of this era too. You stay true to the music and the hero’s that made us all want to play guitar. Thank you.

      Hi Ronald, I will definitely do Party Doll. Buddy Knox was the first 1950s artist that I ever saw live.

    Excellent lesson but may I make a suggestion? Please refer to the frets in relation to the capo. It makes things a lot easier. I have just discovered your channel and it is very good. Hope you don't mind me saying.

    brilliant style to teach guitar, geat videos on your channel!
    Could you try the first and second solo of "Roll Over Beethoven" by Carl Perkins (the 50s version that never got released in the 50s). I think these are great, but I didn't got them out perfectly, could you listen to them (specially the first), and tell me your opinion?
    Oh, jetzt hab ich das in Englisch geschrieben, hatte vergessen das du auch Deutsch verstehst hahaha.
    Mich interessiert speziell das erste solo und ich glaube dass der Anfang davon besonders schwierig zu spielen ist, weil Carl da glaube ich die hohe E seite leer spielt, dann die H saite im fünften Bund greift und nochmal auf der G-saite vom 7- Bund immer in den 9. Bund slidet (!) was ja dreimal die note E ergibt, aber schwer zu spielen ist (er konnte ja später selbst noch solche komplizierten Slides spielen als er seinen kleinen Finger durch einen Unfall nicht mehr nutzen konnte). Hör doch mal rein!
    Cheers

    Not sure if Buddy played lead on this track. May have been Sonny Curtis or Tommy Allsup. Great Rocker for it's day though!

    • @ducktailcat
      @ducktailcat  Рік тому

      Sonny Curtis played only the 56 Decca recordings. I've talked to him a couple of times. Tommy Allsup met Buddy in 1958, so it was definitely Buddy Holly playing on That'll Be The Day. You can hear similar licks on other songs like Ting A Ling.

    Are those flat wounds I hear? I read on a forum somewhere that Luther Perkins used flat wounds on his tele

    WOW! What was the guitar situation like in East Germany before the wall came down? Can I assume there were lots of Chinese guitars, or was everyone playing modified balalaikas? :-)

    • @ducktailcat
      @ducktailcat  Рік тому +2

      Actually it was mainly electric instruments from Checkoslovakia and East Germany had really good acoustic instruments. China didn't play a role back then. Things changed quite a bit
