  • In my first you tube video, we feature my 2003 Hayabusa, as we test the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), attempting to eliminate causes for a power loss issue in high RPMs. This should apply to All Gen 1 Hayabusas. Join me in my first motorcycle diagnosis and repair series, and learn how to DIY!

I have an 03 busa , I found rust inside the gas tank , I changed the fuel pump and both filters , runs great

I changed the pump shortly after this vid. The old pump was tired. I was lucky the inside of the tank was pretty clean. Love my Busa, man.
      Cheers!

Hey Matt, Will a bad TPS cause the bike not to start?

You issue is the fuel filter built into the the pump housing.. if this is an jntank pump. There's a bypass fix for this. Worked really well on my 2005 Gen 1. It cloggs up and starves fuel flow at high rpms. The filter is non maintainable so you need to bypass it and place a filter in line before the injector rail.

You were right. Shortly after this I replaced the pump. Did a vid on that too. I was just starting to poke around the diag at this point and had realized I wanted to contribute a bit to the "how too" world around the same time.

Hi Matt, will a bad TPS cause the bike not to start?? I have a 2006 Busa. I turned off while warming up and have not been able to get it stated.

I'm not 100% certain here. I'm more familiar with cars that have a more complex electronic system. Most go on fail safe and will allow the car to run with poor to no response to throttle input.
I have a feeling it should not cause a no start condition on the busa. I would think the sensor determines the plates are assentially closed at idle and would dump in its pre determined injector pulses for idle. I'm not 100% certain here. If you found out, lmk!
