Also Metheny's first pro recording. Sessions took place in June 1974 in NYC, but apparently Bley held it back and only released it 2 years later, in 1976 in the wake of Both Jaco's and Metheny's solos debuts (as well as Jaco's debut w/ Weather Report). It baffles me as to why he waited. It would have been an Earth shattering event to hear this in '74. Jaco's sound is already fully formed here, Metheny's not so much; his technique essentially is, but here he clearly displays an über-Fusion tone and style, as 'Jazz-Rock' as he would ever sound, obviously more than familiar w/ Larry Coryell's and John McLaughlin's styles in their respective ensembles of the time - The Eleventh House and The Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Jaco and Pat were so incredible on Bright Size Life. I never knew about this album.
Awesum session ...Jaco just keeping his ostinato going ... and when everyone has reached their limits, Jaco cranks it up 2 more notches ....
Where are the rest of the Jaco fans.....I had this on wax back in the seventies
