0:27 Looks like Jaco turns to Erskine and says, "Sorry buddy, Mintzer's tryin to kill me." Maybe Bob's intro was set at a faster tempo than usual. Jaco still nails it (no surprise there). Thanks for posting this great vid.
I saw this band at the Houston (Rockefeller's) show. They played 2 hard hitting sets on a rather small stage. Jaco extended his left hand when I offered a shake. He said his right hand was broken from shaking hands in the Weather Report days. He was also concerned about his wife who was expecting twins, possibly that night or that week. He also asked me if I could turn him on to some blow between sets. Even though the man was troubled, his playing was untouchable. What a legend!
Wow!!! vaya pedazo de banda, Jaco como siempre sobresaliente, aunque pareciera incomodo al principio. No habrá nadie como tú nunca Jaco God Bless!!.Tín Navío
I wish there was a lot more of this sort of thing on youtube. It's always great to hear Randy Brecker and Bob Mintzer. The only way this could be better is if Mike Brecker was on board.
Thanks for posting this! I was there, in the audience, on a beautiful summer day. The Ontario Place Forum, revolving stage and all, right beside Lake Ontario. It was some of the best music and I was so lucky to hear it live.
You know man I was my cups a bit as they say when I wrote that but I just get sick of people making negative comments about Jaco who can't play that well themselves and trust me, with all due respect I studied the man since I was 19, I'm 26 now, my dad plays bass, been playing since I was 15 and I can play!, so sorry if got a little 2 raw dawg, btw Great Video, Thank You Sincerly!
My bass teacher idolises Jaco and having not seen much of Jaco before he told us about him, I can see why. His musical feel and interpretation is insane and almost not human. The groove he creates is phenominal and not many, if any, have been able to reach that standard again.
@Icynene Thank you for sharing that story, you're incredibly lucky to have been able to see that band live. I would have given my right arm to witness this band in action!
@namtil i am envious.... Jaco died about 3 months after i heard of him.....that must have been such a heavy concert. and boy do i miss the Forum. such a great venue. cheers
Thanks for posting the videos and I apologize for the harsh intial posting about the speach bubble.I know that Jaco had a bad drug problem that may have brought on his bipolar mental disorder earlier then it would have or maybe its the other way around but I just dont wanted to glorify destructive behaivor that brought on his demise. Thanks again for the great videos. Also,I did come of like a hipster cat talking about Jaco.I know many are aware of his talent.Have a nice day
any more of this concert around? That Toronto stage was very cool and strange for musicians because the audience was all around you and the stage rotated during the show. As a performer you'd get lost because everytime you'd look out at the crowd it would always be different! The technician could also vary the speed of rotation so sometimes you'd be going pretty fast...some memorable times at that great venue!
It's really great to have friends with such spicy interests in music. I just wouldn't go looking for this because I have no idea it exists... and who does? Viva la Social Media!
@mistersloppy Hello - Yes, the Forum was a wonderful setting for a lot of good concerts. I was lucky to catch many of them - a case of right place, right time. If I remember correctly, Jaco's concert that day was the conclusion of a triple bill that included the Buddy Rich Big Band and the Oscar Peterson Trio. For a couple of tunes, Buddy came out and sat in with Oscar, whose trio included Niels Henning Orsted Pederson! It was a great day for bass players and for everyone in attendance.
One of the best ever. The smart ass remark bubble is real classy. He actually was a snorter not a smoker.Suffered from Manic Depressive/Bi Polar Disorder.Played with more groove than most, smoking 16th notes, playing, that is.
Yes - the Ontario Place Forum in Toronto. There are a couple other posted comments that I made here earlier with a few more relevant details. Out of curiosity, I did a bit of searching and it appears that only two tunes from this concert were video recorded.
in the 80's I was at rehearsals in tokyo when jaco challenged alias to a slap fight, alias slapped the shit outa him and told me never fuck with a drummer, we make our living with our hands :-) RIP my brothers
hey guys...i'm the guy that uploaded this video...can anyone tell me if there is a way to get a good resolution upload without it being 500 meg in size.? the quality on the original is very good, but i had to compress it so i could upload it quicker....any tricks out there from you YouTuve veterans..?? thanks Sloppy
...when i originally posted this video , at that point ,i put a word bubble above Jaco saying, "shit Pete, i forgot my crack pipe in the green room.." but someone got offended so i took the bubble off .
mistersloppy were you at the show sitting front row getting the video or were you part of the Ontario Place crew? I was at that show too. Do you remember who played before and after Jaco's show?
@Icynene Hi. Since you were at the gig do you remember the setlist? I've done some research and all I've found is info for three of the tracks( "Invitation", "Donna Lee" and "Three Views Of A Secret"). If you remember it would be very helpful. Thanks.
@ConCarneBlues drummers have fast hands t makes sense, RIP Jaco and Don, Omar Hakim is here today for 3 day tokyo club gigs w robben ford, darryl jones, joe defrancesco starting tonight
im no great musician but i can read and write a bit. in my opinion when jaco was on he was untouchable.some folks like j berlin better because hes so loud and tight but for me i like jaco.hes not always loud and out front like berlin.he comes in and out.lots of dynamics.
anthony jones he played like that all the time - what's awesome is the excellent video to help us realize what he is actually DOING. This man was the best. Period.
dude, i know everything about Jaco too, but just having a little fun with the bubble. not meant to be classy. people with no sense of humour need not reply.
When I hear people who ged angry at others for calling Jaco a great player; it reminds me of why I think that he was: He ahad his voice on the instrument, and he spoke his songs, through that voice. If you are never willing to let your opinion be heard, this makes you mediocre! I have heard some very "out front" players, who had nothing worth hearing to say, on their instruments, but Jaco, was hardly ever in that place! His 'voice", allowed others, to speak their oipinons, as well!
jeeeeeeeesus christ, bud.. you got problems....read the shit you wrote (badly, btw), and write yourself a post-it note to find therapy as soon as possible. either that, or can you possibly get off my planet?
0:27 Looks like Jaco turns to Erskine and says, "Sorry buddy, Mintzer's tryin to kill me." Maybe Bob's intro was set at a faster tempo than usual. Jaco still nails it (no surprise there). Thanks for posting this great vid.
Nice. I was at this concert. I had good seats too. Saw Pat Metheny Group here many times too.
Jaco was so precise rhythmically !! that's 1 big element that made him one of the best bassists.

WOW! JACO on the famous rotating stage at Ontario Place (RIP for both JP and the stage). This is one incredible clip! Thanks for posting!
Wow! Thank you!

Jaco is so cool.
Early summer, 1982, if I remember correctly. And yes, Jaco (and all the musicians), played great that day.
Uaaasuuuuuu what a beauty!!! Thanks for shearing this jewel
@Icynene
Thank you for sharing that story, you're incredibly lucky to have been able to see that band live. I would have given my right arm to witness this band in action!

Even Jaco acknowledges thats a tough head.
@romainlabaye I'm glad you think so

you are welcome...and yes, i was just messing around with the dialogue.
in the 80's I was at rehearsals in tokyo when jaco challenged alias to a slap fight, alias slapped the shit outa him and told me never fuck with a drummer, we make our living with our hands :-) RIP my brothers

6:05-06 is the best part!!
I wish I knew. May I suggest splitting it up into two files. We could then download it and put it back together.
...when i originally posted this video , at that point ,i put a word bubble above Jaco saying, "shit Pete, i forgot my crack pipe in the green room.." but someone got offended so i took the bubble off .
first time that i see this video... thanks where can i get ??
Musicians:
Bass - Jaco
Drums - Peter Erskine
Percussions - Othello

☝️🙄🌱
mistersloppy were you at the show sitting front row getting the video or were you part of the Ontario Place crew? I was at that show too. Do you remember who played before and after Jaco's show?
Le parole non bastano per far capire la sua grandezza nel suonare il basso..............
as a courtesy to all fans and to the man himself, i have removed the speech bubble from the video. just a little fun .
@Icynene

anthony jones he played like that all the time - what's awesome is the excellent video to help us realize what he is actually DOING. This man was the best. Period.
anthony jones that's just a walking bass line though
@skafskaf Erkskine's kit sounds great. the source recording is badly miced
07:18 - 07:28 holy shit !
That man on pans would be Othello Malineaux
@cliffworks4321 I always though jaco would win such a thing.. i mean the guy has huge hands!
What the hell is the wayJaco dressed.. Anyway, great video, thanks
I think Jaco's solo was great. Ok, he used a few familiar licks, but who doesn't?
whos the guy with the rainbow colors hes fun
yeah i have Three Views of a Secret also...just have to transfer it.
He's still playing over the chord changes, which makes it really difficult (no comping)
7:55 what's that sound?
That's the Trumpet. Randy Brecker is using a pedal to get that sound. Miles Davis kinda pioneered with that sound
当時ジャコ・パス”ワード・オブ・マウス"福岡公演では、狂って寝かせベースをタオルで叩いてたっけ!?~狂人の強靱”ドナ・リー"猛者達だ #jazzm
anyone here heard of flea?
Nice drumming but that first ride DOES sound like a dustbin lid :D
didnt get your reply either
are you talking to me?
.....uh...thanks...i guess.
its one thing to use a few familiar licks, but almost all his later solos sounded like this, its a huge shame
...probably something about leaving his crack pipe in the green room....
dude, i know everything about Jaco too, but just having a little fun with the bubble. not meant to be classy.
people with no sense of humour need not reply.
Ho faticato a sentire una frase
come on, that was an obvious joke.
nope ...never.
