It broke my heart that Lucy ended up with the worst ending. The one thing mattered to her, the one person she ever confided in, was taken from her. Despite her dedicating her life to keep David safe, her worst fear still came to pass. Everywhere she goes, she is reminded of him. She will join him soon.
worst part about it is that her desire to protect David is what got him killed in the first place. If she had just been honest about what she had learned, then he may have leaned off of the implants and maybe even left Night City with her to escape Arasaka. Instead, she kept secrets which further isolated David and pushed him further into isolation and subsequently cyberpsychosis.
Really bittersweet that David took Lucy's advice, pursuing his dream to the end and ignoring anyone else's. He got Lucy to the moon like he promised, but at the cost of her own dream: she didn't get to take him with her.
David's tragedy is that he was surrounded by loyal friends who were willing to help him achieve his dream, but he didn't have a dream of his own and instead living his life by helping his loved ones realize their dreams instead.
This was so sad.. and this was just one of the countless stories of legends throughout night city. Man.. david truly went out like a champ and becca too.. the way she spent her last second talking shit to adam smasher.. her name will be spoken forever in the streets of night city, she is immortalized.
@@jojofrancisco6648 except for V but yh i wouldn't say its also a happy ending when he accept to protect his soul till they find a new body cause in that all his friends may be that by that time so he will be also lonely
The ending left me feeling empty and lost. Literally until I went to bed, I was a zombie. A scatterbrained mess. A real masterpiece with fantastic characters. Everything about the show felt organic (except for the scenes where it's just Maelstrom missing 300 rounds during main character monologues.) Rebecca is the best and her bro is funny as hell. Just so much to love about this show, it's going to stay with me for a long long time.
I finished this series at 5am yesterday and haven't slept since. This show absolutely destroyed me. I just came inside after sitting on my lawn at like 4:00 in the morning just looking up at the moon and listening to this song on loop for like 2 hours and questiong everything.
To be fair... Maelstrom members can't shoot for shit, going for a second run on Cyberpunk as Steet kid andclwt me tell ypu, if you apply a minum of proper irl combat tactics while playing, they are rather mediocre.
I'm gonna miss Rebecca, man. She was more real than Lucy, never aloof or deliberately mysterious, always dedicated and stuck to her guns, always had your back. At least she had one final say about how she was gonna die; guns blazing
It's not often that an anime makes me sad the way this did. Edgerunners was a masterpiece through and through. If I ever have kids you can bet I'll be showing them this once they're a bit older.
I wouldn't say a masterpiece, I didn't really connect as much with the characters due to their short time (except with the final 2 deaths). Given abit more time I would have been devastated over Maine's death. But still a very good show
they're probably gonna be living this reality by the time you show them this lol, society is gonna be even more fucked in the next 55 years, not to mention the overarching degradation of our ecosystem and yearly heatwaves, forest fires, mass pollution and collapse of governments until corpo-anarchism starts to become a thing.
As sad as it is seeing Lucy alone… her smile at the end, showed that she was willing to live on, for all those who died for her. If she quit now it’d be letting down everyone who fought for her sake, especially David. It really hard to go on living without loved ones, but living to the fullest, is the greatest respect you can give to those who died for you.
To be honest I think it was a perfectly ambiguous ending. You can take her smile either that she has decided to live on - or she's smiling because she's made her final decision. It a genius way to end as we never see much of her emotional or practical situation after David is killed so we just dont have enough information to know what she plans to do. I think thats great in how its shown. Just doubles the impact of the gut-punch this series gives you. Honestly, in a world like Cyberpunk's? I wouldn't blame her for popping the helmet off there and then

So tragic. From feeling like he doesn’t belong and loosing his mom, to finding a group where he can feel at home then slow loosing them as well as himself. You desperately want David and Lucy to be okay, to disappear beyond the horizon together hand in hand. But there’s an underlying sense of doom and all you can do is watch helplessly as Night City slowly devours any hope for a happy ending. Truly a heartbreaking story.
Edgerunners faced a similar situation that rouge one did , the characters had to disappear as to no disturb the current lore. It was impressive on how well everyone in edgerunners was developed in such a short timespan
We all know Becca was the best girl, she followed along when David went half crazy and said to her "look mom i made to the top" or sum like that. She was with him through his struggles and took care of him as if he was her lover. They're bond was so good😢

Kiwi was wrong about one thing; Not everyone will betray you in the end. David and Becca stayed loyal to Lucy to the bitter end. EDIT: Okay, to be fair, Falco *did* stick with David to help save Lucy, but we also didn't see much of Falco the whole series, so I don't think we can say too much about him.
y'all need to take another look at Lucy's final expression; she gently smiles and then closes her eyes to embrace the warmth of the sun and David's memory. Grief is not consuming her and leaving her in total isolation as so many are feeling in their feels. I think she is on the moon dancing with the ghost of his spirit. Even his image is portrayed here as the guy before chrome and Night City consumed him, as it does everyone. But not her; she is free to be whoever she wants. His love continues to guide her and shiiiiieeeeet
The saddest thing of cyberpunk final scene is that even if Lucy realises her dream, she didn't realised it completely. In the moment she shared her dream with David, he became a part of it (she lost anyway). In this world there are only death, betrayels and sadness. What an amazing show!!!
Life ranting ahead: Oh man, that fake smile at the end when she hallucinates David, and when he disappears she has that look of regret and realization on her face. That hit me like a truck. I’ve had many hallucinations like that, on the streets, in my garden and even in my house, whenever I remembered the friends I used to have and when I’d do things with my family, it hurst me so much I can’t describe it, i have no-one now, knowing it’s all my fault it destroys me inside. I can’t do anything but sit and cry, and worst of all when I realize I have nothing else to live for I stop. I felt nothing all the way through this show, but that ending scene, I tried holding it in for 1-2 days. And when I had another hallucination I just broke down. Sorry for this comment, I just feel like talking to strangers on the internet is all I have left, I need to go and wash my face now.
Seek tranquility my digital friend. It is our desires that torment us, and most of our desires are based on a reality that does not and cannot exist. Situations, people and emotions we idealize rarely match our expectations, which leads to bitterness, sadness, and suffering. See reality for what it is, and accept it, and let go of the desire for joy. Seek tranquility instead.
Im not lying when I say I cried over 10 mins to this song, this anime hit me on another emotional level like bever before, they only way I could even get anybody to get a hint of what I felt was this video, its exactly how I felt and reacted.
What really got me in the last scene is when Lucy sees David on the moon, and then realize it was a hallucination, she actually looks shocked. She knew David was dead, but it’s like she can’t cope with the loss of him, and she can’t really tell what’s real or not. It’s like when something terrible happens in real life the first thing our brain does is to refuse to believe it. I nearly shouted “f*ck!” when I watched that scene. The pain was waaaay too real. Damn you Trigger you didn’t have to go that far.
This anime managed to surpass everything ive seen in years. its up there with beebop and gurren lagaan. I felt more upset at rebeccas death even though I knew she wouldn't make it but its probably because the last episode was a live wake for david. He was dead before the episode started, by the end he was basically Johnny silverhand, a corrupted ghost posessing a body. becca deserved better. but still.
Damn straight the show just had it man it drew me in so quickly aside from becca's death Maine really hit me hard his death set the mood for the show made the viewer realize the world of cyberpunk got no plot armor it's do or die out here
David thought she wanted to go to the moon but failed to realize he was her moon. The moment they kissed on that roof top she reached her destination. 😭
The ending breaks my heart. In the end she got her dream to go to the moon becoming true, only to realize that the happiness she always wanted was back at Night's City being at David's side.
People who dissed Cyberpunk 2077 just for the bugs can see it. This is the Kind of Franchise CDPR wanted to create. To give you the ride of emotional rollercoaster.
@@W-G Aside from the bugs and other issues, the story was amazing. CDPR did a good job on writing the story and the characters. People that complain probably never actually finished the game lol.
It's funny because for me the sadness of this anime crept up on me. Like, I was a bit sad at the end watching this, and it did get a couple of tears, but that was it. Wasn't until the next day that I was thinking about this and the song that it really bummed me out.
When I saw this, I couldn't hold the tears, but sadly, in Night City, it seems that there are not so many happy endings. Because of this, I want to pay my respects to the Streetkid Legend that wore that awesome Yellow Jacket... "Dear David, despite the fact that you have made many serious mistakes, you kept your promises, to be at the top at Arasaka, to keep running, to not become a Cyberpsycho and to take Lucy to the moon. @@Dayz671 I've seen big red flag in the hands scene, where David refused Becca's bro hands and said he wants different ones (Maine's). I was like 'yo bro, why are you drooling over your ALIVE friends upgrades?'. I've not played the game before and tbh I would kind of preffered to complete it before watching the show. To just be prepared for the type of ending I should expect as I don't like bad/bittersweet ones. Still I enjoyed the ending simply because they were doing so much mayhem, killing so many people that I got tired of the main character and his decisions. The lab lady was too much for me, cyberpsychosis or not. Just a shame they flattened the loli at the end. Also poor Lucy is probably scarred for life every time she sees a fucking moon.
her dream wasnt to go to the moon, it was for david to live and be with her. my guy was trying to carry too manys peoples dream to the point where he didnt even have his own
Yeah, this was rough. I knew it was definitely going downhill when Adam Smasher came into the fold. I was thinking aww crap, no way will they beat him, cause V beat that sick b@stard.
Thank you for leaving that ending scene in it's full cut without going back to Interstellar. The reaction from Cooper fits perfect, but damn if I didn't tear up again just from watching this video. Such a bittersweet show.
It was pretty sad when the climax happened, but it wasn’t until Lucy remembered David on the moon when I started to get emotional. Didn’t shed a tear, but that scene was pretty powerful for me.
its a bittersweet ending. but both achived their dreams in the end. David kept his promise to his mother and Maine by making it to the top even if it was in a twisted way with a Mix of Cyberphychosis and Survivors Guilt. and Lucy finally made it to the Moon as far away from night city and Arasaka truly becoming free. even though david is no longer with Her the memories they had will make him live on with her for the rest of her life. these are the same themes in the game as well. where V only has so little time left and they have to make the choice on how they want to be remembered after their death. both anime and game explore the themes of loss and legacy making a very interesting view on the inevitability of death and what we want to leave behind. i hope this anime brings people back into the game because with all the patches out now it fixes the major criticisms people had with the game and they can enjoy such a masterpiece of a story.
For me the saddest thing in this episode was rebecca death, at least the others characters dying helping the others or lefting something behind, she just died out of nowhere and the worst part is that it happened on the last 5 minutes of the show so they didn't even put emphasis on her death either.
Deaths don't mean anything in NC. Silverhand was buried in a trash yard. There's never going to be a happy ending in Night City. Wrong city, Wrong People.
This is how I feel too. Her death didn't change the narrative at all. Felt needlessly cruel for "shock value." The best character died like an NPC, it might as well have been an off-screen death. Literally every other character including Pilar have a big moment centered around their death, but Rebecca just gets goomba stomped out of nowhere and is never brought up again.
Fuck, this show really ripped the heart right out of my chest, and put my gut in knots. A love so bold, bright, and true the city couldn’t allow it to stand. I wish I could articulate the emotions this show and the game both make me feel but it’s something you just simply have to experience for yourself. I hope myself and everyone can find their David or Lucy one day. (Just under better circumstances)
I finished the show like 3 days ago, and still can’t get over that bittersweet feeing, its actually heavy on the chest. Like I really loved the show, but now I feel so fucked up and unreasonably sad out of the blue. Damn you CDPR and Trigger, you did too good of a job.
Moon is the only place she can meet him, because she shared her inside with him there. She can feel his warmth through sunlight on the moon. I cant watch this anime without crying.
What hurts me the most is that David both fulfilled Lucy's dream, and ruined it. The 'moon' wasn't necessarily literal. It was the furthest place from Night City, in a way. Lucy would have rathered be anywhere else but the cesspool she was in, but above all that, she wanted to be anywhere else with DAVID. And now that David's gone, she's there. She's on the Moon. Her dream is hollow, her victory incomplete, because she's alone, as far away from the memory of the person she loves as she can physically be (I doubt they'll make a David Martinez on the Moon). The only small comfort, I guess, is if she doesn't die by the time of CP77, another Night City Legend might reach that moon, and Lucy can have a little smile knowing that the score got evened up in the end.
I lost my love a few months ago because the world is cruel and such a happiness burned too bright. I've cried and cried and cried until I thought I couldn't cry anymore these past week and a half, and then Edgerunners came out and I fell in love with their relationship because it reminded me of my own. The moment the song played when they were on the moon, I knew it was not going to be a happy ending. And then when the final moon scene played out, echoing the first, with the song again, it was like a dam opened and I just cannot stop crying over the loss, theirs and mine.
This anime proves that not everyone is born special in this world. Even if you're special you have limits. The scene where they showed young David when Lucy visited the moon just broke me. This was definitely a 10/10 anime.......
This ending is obviously sad but at the very ending Lucy and the whole setup left me with sort of a hopeful/bittersweet type of ending. Lucy looks obviously sad, but also a but more peaceful. She knew this ending for David was inevitable, he'd been showing signs for a while and she'd not been able to stop him from going down the psycho path. In death, David finally find peace, and I think beyond her sadness, Lucy has some sense of peace as well.
she was left alone, she lost everyone she loves, she lost the love of her life. but he still holds on, i cried when david died and i still cant gather up after all what happen
The worst part is Lucy is now alone has no dream because she completed her dreams and her and David loved each other the one man she loved is dead all her friends dead I wouldn't be surprised if she unalived her self to david promised but never kept it and she did the last thing he asked her to do and he never said anything about her dying so that's probably what she'll do and hopefully get to see David again
So I've always loved anime and manga growing up -- but as I started to enter my serious adulthood years in my 30s, I found myself drifting toward entertainment that was much more mature and nuanced (basically shit that A24 puts out) and was losing touch with my love for animation and all things sci-fi/fantasy. But for whatever reason or another, this show kept standing out to me through its trailers (also because I've loved the director since TTGL) and I ended up binge-watching this show in one day, and holy shit was I not expecting such a dark and downbeat ending. That frame of Lucy on the moon with the reflection of Dave's presence in the visor, is going to stick with me for quite some time. I don't remember the last time I watched an anime that not only subverted expectations quite like this one, but had the balls to go with such a bleak ending. You never really see that in anime. At least not recently. I'm going to be doing an immediate rewatch. I really loved this series. And god damn is Adam Smasher one ruthless motherfucker. This series got him more right than the actual game did.
To explain simply, both David and Lucy are at fault for getting this ending to their story. David for thinking he won’t go psycho, Lucy for hiding the truth and making him feel more isolated. They both had their own reasons but those reasons were why everything happened the way they did. Becca best girl and David is a great dude, great romance with him and Lucy, just wish it was longer
Those who don't walk away from night city can't have a good ending. The choice is always there. But night city is probably the most effective drug out there. Both addictive and dangerous
Even if I rewatch cyberpunk edgerunner there's no way I'm gonna cry because my eyes are dry because of me crying all night because of cyberpunk edgerunner
This show just left me confused. It was a such a masterpiece it got me feeling like i lived in that world, might sound kind of weird but i related with the characters on a dimensial intergalacting level my LMFAOO. but the pain is real, even months later. It's not going away.

Bro, legit one of the best animes I have ever watched. And this comes from a guy who HATES romance in anything non-romantic. This was a masterpiece in every single metric.
This just proved from when David had that talk with Maine questioning if the connection they felt was real when they first went to the moon that that was the best moment of her life she shared with anyone ever. Now she’s all alone trying to take the advice that she gave David and he really saw through. This is honestly one of the most bittersweet full circle moments I’ve ever seen.

She ended up with the best ending, he became something different completely, gone way before his death. She finds peace
"For folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people." - Johnny Silverhand about happy endings.

If you play cyberpunk 2077. There is a drink in afterlife named David Martinez

I think they would need to be more than a bit lmfaoooo
I wouldn't say a masterpiece, I didn't really connect as much with the characters due to their short time (except with the final 2 deaths). Given abit more time I would have been devastated over Maine's death. But still a very good show
when theyre wayyy older.
they're probably gonna be living this reality by the time you show them this lol, society is gonna be even more fucked in the next 55 years, not to mention the overarching degradation of our ecosystem and yearly heatwaves, forest fires, mass pollution and collapse of governments until corpo-anarchism starts to become a thing.
Then you need to watch more anime if you think endgerunners is a masterpiece
As sad as it is seeing Lucy alone… her smile at the end, showed that she was willing to live on, for all those who died for her.
If she quit now it’d be letting down everyone who fought for her sake, especially David.
It really hard to go on living without loved ones, but living to the fullest, is the greatest respect you can give to those who died for you.
Did you want the happier ending? For everyone?
Wrong city, wrong people...
I like to think she took her helmet off right there as a headcanon ending
The bags under those eyes tell me she popped the clasp on her helmet seconds after fade to black and suffocated herself on the moon, alone.
He died for her old dream, now she has to live on to accomplish his. Fair trade.
I wouldn't blame her for popping the helmet off there and then
I was depressed for awhile after watching the last episode brought back Akame ga kill flashbacks
Welcome to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077. Good endings are very rare.

y'all need to take another look at Lucy's final expression; she gently smiles and then closes her eyes to embrace the warmth of the sun and David's memory. Grief is not consuming her and leaving her in total isolation as so many are feeling in their feels. I think she is on the moon dancing with the ghost of his spirit. V: "Guess I meant, I dunno... a happier ending... for everyone involved."
Johnny: "Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people."
What I learned from this anime "If you want to be happy, don't be in a dangerous place"
Lucy escaped Night City the same way she escaped from Arasaka's labs. Alone, with all her friends dead.
its a bittersweet ending. but both achived their dreams in the end. David kept his promise to his mother and Maine by making it to the top even if it was in a twisted way with a Mix of Cyberphychosis and Survivors Guilt. and Lucy finally made it to the Moon as far away from night city and Arasaka truly becoming free. even though david is no longer with Her the memories they had will make him live on with her for the rest of her life. these are the same themes in the game as well. where V only has so little time left and they have to make the choice on how they want to be remembered after their death. both anime and game explore the themes of loss and legacy making a very interesting view on the inevitability of death and what we want to leave behind. i hope this anime brings people back into the game because with all the patches out now it fixes the major criticisms people had with the game and they can enjoy such a masterpiece of a story.
lucy's dream has changed since the first time she invited David to date on the moon, from"go to moon" to"go to moon with him", but in the end......
He was her moon
Fucking died when he just poofed out of her sight, broke my heart.
*Cries*. I've had that song stuck in my head since I watched it all and it keeps reminding me of this moment. What an amazing show honestly.
Good interpretation about this.
Lucy is dead inside but knowing her dream is part of David dream , a glimpse of hope that make her to carry on her life
I lost my love a few months ago because the world is cruel and such a happiness burned too bright.
In death, David finally find peace, and I think beyond her sadness, Lucy has some sense of peace as well.
love how the anime gave everyone a wild emotional roller coaster.
Meh I’m a tough nut to crack
she was left alone, she lost everyone she loves, she lost the love of her life. but he still holds on, i cried when david died and i still cant gather up after all what happen
Adam smasher i'm coming for you
Never had a show or movie made me cry the way this made me cry… I feel so empty. 10/10
It's not often that Netflix produces an anime that's actually good imo. I loved edgerunners and the ending made me feel sad/empty.
If i had to use any sort of clip/gif of how i reacted when this came up, its this movie, this scene right here is EXACTLY how i reacted
Such a great anime. Very memorable and definitely one id watch regularly
It's not about how you live in Night City, It's about how you die...
I lost all hope for David to survive when he was talking to his mom through Rebcca, love this show so much.
I loved the ending, mostly because Lucy didn't take off her helmet to see David again. I'm happy he got her to the Moon
Killed me that ending the song didn't help either, had to go back to cyberpunk for revenge 😭
Este final me recordó al final de BioShock Infinite peleamos tanto para poder llevar a Elizabeth a París y al final solo pudo ir ella sola
Those who don't walk away from night city can't have a good ending. The choice is always there.
But night city is probably the most effective drug out there.
Both addictive and dangerous
That scene and another from interstellar fit so well with reactions from the fans
Even if I rewatch cyberpunk edgerunner there's no way I'm gonna cry because my eyes are dry because of me crying all night because of cyberpunk edgerunner
edgerunners was the first anime in a long time that i actually made me cry
This show just left me confused. It was a such a masterpiece it got me feeling like i lived in that world, might sound kind of weird but i related with the characters on a dimensial intergalacting level my LMFAOO. but the pain is real, even months later. It's not going away.
This show was really good, I would like to pay respects to David,Becca,Maine,Dorio and maybe Pilar, they will forever be known as legends to Nights city (expecally David and Becca)
Take the anger out on Adam, exact your revenge
this ending make me sad as fuck , all night can`t sleep😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This was My first anime and gotta say shit was fire
Go watch vampire hunter d bloodlust, black lagoon, afro samurai, great prender, beastar, cowboy bebop, Carole and Tuesday, taking of kings
I haven’t been this sad watching an anime in so long
Bro, legit one of the best animes I have ever watched. And this comes from a guy who HATES romance in anything non-romantic. This was a masterpiece in every single metric.
you have hurt me enough i will now sit in the corner of my room and cry thanks
This just proved from when David had that talk with Maine questioning if the connection they felt was real when they first went to the moon that that was the best moment of her life she shared with anyone ever. Now she’s all alone trying to take the advice that she gave David and he really saw through. This is honestly one of the most bittersweet full circle moments I’ve ever seen.
All big legends of Night City died

“The worst thing that can happen isn’t that you die… it’s that you’re the only one that doesn’t”
“And that you have to keep on living, otherwise their sacrifice was wasted”
-Not an actual quote from anywhere as far as I know
You're basically living forcibly at that point
Dang it I’m crying reading these comments!! Incredible what they did with 4 hours screen time. Masterpiece indeed.
i finished watching this anime some days ago and ngl this was the saddest ending ive ever seen, it rlly made me depressed for awhile
I’ll never listen to that song with the same mindset after that finale.
