This episode literally inspired my cousin to be a bird lawyer, he went to college to study ornithology and law after seeing this episode. Perfect television
Bird law actually has an interesting significance. Protecting various threatened species was outside of the power of congress and most state's legislatures. However, the president was empowered to enter into treaties, so long as ratified by the senate, and that would become attached to the constitution as the law of the land regardless. The Endangered Species Act was the first main time treaty law was used to apply laws within the US that would otherwise be unconstitutional or simply not politically possible. Another example, as has been testified before congress, the US fed gov cannot legalize cannabis because of a treaty. It can only be decriminalized and ignored. But congress and the US gov has no legal ability to legalize cannabis anymore because of a treaty. Birdlaw precedent actually has incredible significance.
I will also say, I support the Bricker amendment which would make it unconstitutional to make unconstitutional acts legal even if done via treaty. However, at this moment, the president and a majority of the senate can, under the constitution, absolutely violate the constitution in every other way. And they have and continue to use this method with zero public awareness. And this all happened because of birdlaw. If only more people understood birdlaw the world might be better.

One of my favorite parts of this episode is actually a really silly, almost throwaway thing but it's delivered so perfect. The kid goes "dude. eat my booggers" and Rob coming back immediately with "you eat MY boogers"
I didn’t see the “argument” until they started talking about it and I looked it up and WOW. That was the most normal and modest disagreement I’ve ever seen and I can’t believe people were like offended or whatever. That was a very healthy disagreement.

Love that they addressed the confrontation on the live episode. Agree it was mostly rooted in healthy conflict resolution and good communication. “My pole work will be a little more professional now that I know it will please someone” - Charlie Day 😂
The book Charlie pulls out about the lawyers dueling. That cracks me up.
love the fly being in the shot while they're talking about how inexpensive taking flies out
This is the best podcast ever. It's like they are in the show talking in the bar over each other, but Charlie knows gooder words!
The fact that there’s a fly in the shot right when they’re talking about taking out a fly 🤌🤌
cgi fly?
@@ashzombi3131 no way that would be too expensive.
@@rectangularcuboid these guys are worth hundreds of millions though
@@mattblack6736 It's about budgeting per season. Most of their budget goes towards the sets, actors, writers etc. All the things that they should be spending money on. Reserving money in the budget for "CGI flies" is not only ridiculous from a financial, but also a creative stand point
@@ashzombi3131 i think so, came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed… it looks CGI to me and they didn’t mention a fly in the room as they’re actively talking about flies… ill betcha that was an easter egg added in post. If so, props to whoever put that in. If not, props to god maaaaaannnnnnnnn lol
Rob’s arms immediately 50% bigger as he preps for s16 lol
🤣🤣😂
Bird law is a huge part of always sunny
Along with various other lawyerings
@@zachbush7923 filibuster
@Zach Bush we jibber jabber, we go tit for tat, but at the end of the day there's a mutual respect.
This is the main episode I show people when I’m trying to get them into Sunny. Just plays so well to demonstrate what this show is
Just giving another shout out to "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore". Such an unknown but underrated film. So, so good!
One of my favorite quotes from Flea that I’ll have to paraphrase because I can’t remember verbatim was “it’s our job to take our inspiration and do the footwork of making it into a song.” I really enjoy hearing about the writing process from different creative avenues because of how they have to task and organize themselves. The show is about narcissists doing silly things, the work towards that end product is such an amazing process to me.
Nice work Meg, and Meg's trainer. "Great Job, You Failed!" might be the best metaphor for the entire arc of IASIP that I've heard yet. It needs to be on a t-shirt or coffee mug.
The exaustion and vulnerablity in this episode it what makes it special. Be grateful we've had so many seasons of this gem because these guys hang dong.
I love that they digitally included a fly to the podcast
Wow, I'd no idea that was Melanie Lynskey in this episode. Glenn is correct re: I don't feel at home. Great film. She was also in Peter Jackson's breakthrough film, Heavenly Creatures, which is also brilliant.
Melanie Lynskey is a great actress. Pretty sure she's from New Zealand but as an Australian we claim her as ours as we tend to do with most of the talent that comes our way from NZ.
Apparently she was married to Jimmi Simpson for a while
Yooo her American accent is amazing, I had no idea she was from New Zealand. The first time I saw her was on two and a half men.
Mac you are dead wrong about this episode. This episode and gang hits the road are by far my favourite episodes and therefore are objectively the best.
S5Ep1 is arguably the greatest cold open of the entire series. I watch it about once a month and still die laughing
I hear you Rob, trying to be more grateful and appreciative of things I have in life. Trying to stop other peoples idiocy from effecting my mood or make my blood pressure go up. It’s hard indeed man. Love you guys
This is one of my favourite episodes ever. I remember getting into this show with dvds just after season 4 and this was the first season premiere I watched as it was broadcast. The cold open is absolutely perfect.
"I dont feel at home..." such a fantastic movie!
Love to hear the writing process - its one of those things you know is happening on the back end and is not easy.
I seriously appreciate how much this podcast talks about writing. It's inspiring me to write more, so thank you!
ending up in the pool is so great! It becomes like a summer event episode! this is an all time episode, one I come back to time and again
I hope the line, "Does my pole work please you?" finds it's way into a script
I don't skip the ads. just for those little tidbits and lines they work in. nicely played, gang.
Ads are sooooo super cringe 😬
holy shit they saw my video!!! i’m the one who edited the video of them fighting. so sorry if that stirred anything up it was just supposed to be a joke!! still honored though wow.
Where's the video
@@ARABxINFLUENCE I vaguely remember something from Reddit about how someone, probably desert grape, made it as a joke and put it on twitter or something? And someone else found it and posted it on Reddit without context so thousands of people saw it and thought Rob and Charlie were fighting. So it might still be up on r/iasip, not sure though.
Hearing actors I respect talking about one of my favorite actresses is the validation that I didn't know I needed. Melanie Lynskey is so amazing.
I never noticed a fly in that scene. I always notice how they had to keep moving away from Rob cuz he's clearly breaking character as it goes on lol
Love the Joseph Campbell name drop by Glenn. Campbell is a freaking beast.
Love that they addressed the confrontation on the live episode. Agree it was mostly rooted in healthy conflict resolution and good communication. What they're not addressing are the sideways comments and underhanded jabs surrounding the discourse (Rob calling Charlie a "pandering prick" and Charlie calling Rob an "angry drunk"), but Charlie nailed it that that's more the booze talking.
37:27 I love that they digitally added a fly next to Rob here 😂
I think Rob's work during season 3 of Mythic Quest was incredible and wonderful to watch
Mister Quest!
Congratulations on 20 years guys, your friendship has created many friendships of mine xoxox
Great to have the gang back on a Monday. Happy new year creeps and creepettes! 👽
This episode had Ray Porter in it. One of the best audiobook narrators, as well as one of the most loyal Dharma employees.
Isn't that who voiced Darkseid in Justice League? Who did he play here, the father?
Man, I was really missing the podcasts. Glad you guys found some time!
The fly flying next to Rob when he says how cheap it is to remove them, perfect.
Would love an episode with Meg as a "guest" and hear her story how she got involved with the show and so on!
yes!! would love this!!
I want this episode. Such a good idea!!!!!@@elliota1487
"But little do I know, she desperately wants to talk to me,apparently. According to that story,I'm gonna assume the next time I see her that she wants to talk to me. " Lol that deserved laughs. Glenn really leaning in to his Dennis there, really felt like the "psychotically vain" bit.
Love how deep you go into the writing process on this one. Obviously top of mind since you are writing, but super fun. Would love to see a breakdown of the writing process for one of the episodes after the next season ends.
off topic, but charlie’s green hat and the way his hair is slightly curling in that back makes him kinda look like luigi, which for me sells the fact that he’s gonna be perfect for the role.
Perhaps no better way to spend my time at 3 am than watching this!
So interesting to see how they feel about the episodes vs how the fans feel. Love this episode!
Mythic Quest needs a “the fly” episode like Breaking B-B-B-B-Bad
cool to see them transform back into their characters look-wise as shooting draws closer
Charlie to Matthew Broderick: don’t big league me dude. I’m trying to have a conversation with the man behind the mask.
I could listen to these four all day haha. Ive been missing these podcasts, glad to have a new one! Can't wait for the new season gang!!
This new set has a real back room casting couch vibe to it. I keep expecting a naked guy to walk into frame.
The twist is that the naked guy is IN the couch lol
Within 3 minutes charlie is talking about pleasing people with his pole skills 😂 if this was a porno interview they would have loved that answer 😂
@@zachbush7923 Hot! Hot, hot, hot!
I wonder wht that couch has seen 😆
That 1,2,3, testing testies is a joke I've been doing since theatre in highschool back in the 90s and it still got a laugh out of Meg.
