I don't know why, but the part from about 1:50 onwards really scared me as a kid. Whenever I watched the sing-along video, I always made my mom fast-forward through that part. I have no clue what scared me, it's not that bad now.
I think I can imagine why; Between the screaming, laughing, drunken stupor the pirates are in, their scraggly faces, the endless shooting, the music adding some extra tension during the scene, it could scare kids at a younger age. It could even be said the same for newer generations that would ever go on the ride itself.
This song always brings classic memories. The pirate vocalizing @ 0:50 is what makes me remember the song the most. Starting to remember the lyrics again 😅
And the one that shaped like a piano @ 0:07 is the Boogie-Woogie Archipelago. And further from here, you’ll see the Isles of Bop, where jive trees grow, which explains the, uh, ahem, “palm trees” clap their hands and snapped their leaves.
Same with me. It haunted me for years, and I didn’t know it was anametrinics. I thought the cannon would keep pointing up and he’d fall off and I couldn’t understand why he was just in a daze hiccuping like nothing was happening. It spent many sleepless nights trying to make sense of that so I could put it to rest, but I never got closure. It was also my first exposure to drunken savagery and violence, and all in the context cheery innocent kids’ singalongs.
Hey! Me too! I used to run away from this scene a lot!! Scared me when I was kid. 😨 But now that I'm an adult, I'm not scared of it anymore, I find it amusing and funny 😆😂
Yeah that gave me the creeps as a kid. I didn’t know it was anametronics, and thought the cannon would keep pointing up and he’d fall off, and there he was hiccuping in a daze like nothing was happening. It was disturbing because I couldn’t make sense of it. For years I spent sleepless nights trying to figure out what such a scenario meant, but got no closure.
That freaked me out as I kid. I didn’t know what drunkenness was, and thought that that that cannon would just keep pointing up and he’d fall off and could understand why it wasn’t getting himself off.
Yarr! They skipped a few o' the best verses! "We're rascals, scoundrels, villains and knaves, drink up, me hearties, yo ho! We're devils and black sheep and REALLY BAD EGGS, drink up, me hearties, yo ho!"
Well between the sing-along and the original video, I think their main purpose was to promote the ride itself so people could see the ride and experience listening to the song itself.
0:45 - 0:49 Now I remember it was always hard to watch this particular segment because of how miserable that dog looks. I STILL find its sad countenance painful to witness...
Well, I actually don't remember why this song has been removed in the later versions of Disney's Sing Along Songs: Heigh-Ho. But I do know why. It's due to extreme violence, drinking alcohol, and explosive barrels in dynamite.
“We’re rascals and scoundrels, villains and knaves, Drink up me hearties, yo-ho, We’re devils and black sheep, and really bad eggs, drink up me hearties, yo-ho!”
Is it because of the pirate leaning on a crank that connected by rope to the barrels of explosives hanging over the river, that you thought he looked like he was skewered @ 1:45? Or was it because of the explosion @ 2:23?

To think the Pirates of the Caribbean had such humble beginnings as a ride in Disney theme parks. I first rode the boat in 2000 because I remembered this song. Had no idea it would become a high grossing film series in three years, with Edward Scissorhands as the main star lol
I've been looking for this video for YEARS and I'm literally tearing up trying to remember the rest of the vhs tape I had this on! Omg my childhood.
GOD WHAT IT THE VHS CALLED
Disney’s sing a long songs?
I believe this one was called “heigh ho” on the Disney song along songs
Yep. There was a series of these in the mid to late 80's.
Are you Brazilian like me?
Where are all my 80s-90s kids at?! These images have been in my head 30 years later. 💪🏼
Ahhhh the memories. Had this on VHS and watched it all the time
Dan Darlak same here
Same here. I think.
Dan Darlak kl
Please tell me you remember the name?!
What name?
As a child I could've sworn this was live action and not animatronics!
I had the same exact reaction!
Same
That's because it's an attraction of Disneyland

You think that‘a scary, check out the explosion @ 2:23

Maybe because Billie Howe is shooting barrels of gunpowder with reckless abandon?
I remember having this on VHS. My it brings back lots of memories. I also love ‘A cowboy needs a horse’ classic
that one pirate's solo in 0:50 really adds character depth to the song
This song always brings classic memories. The pirate vocalizing @ 0:50 is what makes me remember the song the most. Starting to remember the lyrics again 😅
HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN YEARS THIS GAVE ME SO MANY MEMORIES
0:03 In the top left corner of the map, you'll see the islands from the Silly Symphony cartoon, Music Land.
And the one that shaped like a piano @ 0:07 is the Boogie-Woogie Archipelago. And further from here, you’ll see the Isles of Bop, where jive trees grow, which explains the, uh, ahem, “palm trees” clap their hands and snapped their leaves.
That's because this footage was from an episode named after a cartoon that answers the question, "Where al the music comes from"?
Thank you to whoever upload this video. You just made my 2 year old son’s day.
0:00-0:14 what cartoon is this from?
Actually, it's an episode, with the same title of a caroon back in '53: "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom".

I always thought the pirate at 1:58 was really really creepy. He's actually the reason I remember this thing
Creepy?
After 27 years it’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one! That pirate was the reason I was too scared to watch this on videotape! 😂

Imagine if a girl was set up on a blind date at some sports pub bar and ended up with this dude @1:45 😅
This scared me as a kid and rewatching it now is like seeing a fever dream

The whole end scene and especially the pirate at 1:58 was why I didn't ride this until I was 8.
Anthony -Hayes That parr’s creepy

0:33 - As of 2018, this part of the ride is gone, yet guns and alcohol are still acceptable.
#censorshipisacrockofhooey
thenamestheygivearedumb
I came here after learning of the removal from a news article.
Well if they took away the guns and alcohol then the ride would be lame
Disney Sing Along Songs “Heigh Ho” from 1987. Still have it packed in a box.
Used to scare me so much as a child
Taylor Same, sis.
How scary was it?
Probably the way they moved and how they fired the guns. This scene too scared the barnacles out of me when I was younger.
The one in the green jacket scared me the most.
Lemme guess, the unsuspected drop as a kid
It's nice to go back to this song and this sequence when possible, especially when I play Sea Of Thieves and all.
Happy 50th Anniversary Pirates of the Caribbean!!!!! Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A Pirate's Life For Me!!!!!

That freaked me out as I kid. I didn’t know what drunkenness was, and thought that that that cannon would just keep pointing up and he’d fall off and could understand why it wasn’t getting himself off.
I wish they would bring them back and put them on DVD/Blu-ray, so we can relive our childhood memories
Just got a Pirates tattoo! Favorite Disney ride!!

I recognize the voices of Paul Frees and Candy Candido.

so great
....I know every word in the german version

YES I remember that ride in Disneyland
Back in the days when Disney was still working with their practical effects magic.
What have they done to such a classic
Man am I lucky to live right next to the original Disneyland in California
Used to freak me out that they blow themselves up at the end...or do they?
+Nic01224 thats a clip from an old promotional video of Disneyland, They explain a lot about the ride and then it ends in the same way
I use to fast forward this on the VHS.
And why is that?
Before they put in the Jack Sparrow and everything.
And before the PC stuff
I can tell all of the clips from the ride came from a television preview.
