Kali is invented to kill fast and not let the enemy make its counter attack and its prove that this is effective in close combat .

Filipino Kali martial art used the Filipino Marine in a real combat field against the Terrorists ISSIS and the abusayaf.
not a chinese kung fu just saying.
Kali is not a self defense martial art, it's an offensive combative martial art with intent to damage, disable, and or give the oponent the final kill. When we were kids, my grandpa taught us the basics, and the first one he taught us was in the close contact just step on the oponent's feet with whole body weight and quickly give the oponent combination of punches. He taught us too to punch the arm muscle close to the armpit that could induce pain and may possibly dislocate armpit joint, just like you see in the video. Saved me from bullies😊😎
Rollyofoxnard I’m glad it saved u from the bullies. They rlly deserved it.
@@nicksoloroblox6865 my father was a retired philippine constabulary and police intelligence, he taught me some kali. panantukan style, in our school theres a taekwondo practitioner guy who bully me always for being a fat guy that time when we fight i use my little knowledge of panantukan most of his kick are miss and catch when i get close to him he did some wild punch miraculously block and check hit in his jaw and his done after that i was expelled in school.
criminology sorry that u got expelled. Kali/Filipino martial arts/pananturkan is super effective. It’s sad u got expelled for trying to defend yourself. Besides who started the fight first?
Kali is offensive
Kung fu is defensive
Kali is not for killing
when your enemy has a nife, theres no more time turning around kick. or you'll be butchered.. that is why kali is the most effective coz it is very practical and direct. no more showing off of moves.. just direct hit.

My grandfather knows kali or arnis he used a stick to slow down and block his enemy attack and on his right hand is a knife, he joined the war ww2 here in the PH
@@poke6983 Now I wish I saw my grandfather too. He was a US army that also joined ww2 but he is a Filipino.
Its also base on disarming so it is better at dealing that situation
I'm a filipina.. I used street style fight when I get in trouble. It's all about confident, alertness and how you compose yourself for a self defense..
I think that speaks for all marital arts
Ball kicking is common also not only women use it even men use it
@@ventithedrunk9506 hopefully self defense isn't necessary, where marriage is concerned.
Ahm u mean beauty queem contest. That confidence and sissy that walk. Ghurl ravann lang!!!
Kali was refined for guerrilla warfare. It's fast, violent and effective just like a street fight. There is no spinning. Spinning gets you killed. Kali wins in a street scenario
Lmao
Lol
yeah kali/Eskrima/Arnis has proven more practical in real life situation it doesn't only limit the practitioner to sticks and knives but also you can use almost anything as a weapon as it only represents as the extension of your arms which was the principal of this effective martial art that's why Philippine military and police and other countries around the world even US military used this martial art as one of their self defense
Gage Colao lmao. you master kali if you master the basics. to be applied on your usual fighting style. now as for actual combat. there really is no art is more superior than the other, it will always depend on the practitioners fighting sense or what we call instinct. (, aim, timing, reflex and how well you would take the hits).
it that case yes but can depend on witch wushu/kungfu the opponent is using, and spinning can create confusion (elbow when out the rotation etc) it's not that simple
as a filipino, my uncles taught me that they were mentored by my grandfather who fought in WW2.
the first one he taught them was
"a human body is like fire, to make fire you need air, heat and material take one out and there is no fire... while in humans there is sight, mobility and breathe take one out and you got him heavily injured or killed".
how?
strike EYES for SIGHT.
strike BICEPS, LEGS, ARMPITS,KNEE and ELBOWS for Mobility
and strike THROAT for BREATH.
My great uncle trained me to use Kali when I go to school and when the school and martial arts contest I did won because I use n1 to dodge attacks and use speed to counter strike the foe and then I use attack when the enemy is downed and I won I missed him so much
Yes because my grand father is master of Kali and how my uncle istablish Kali to Philippine marine corps rited 2nd Lt Manuel s Prado Jr 28 yrs in service to the recon marine and blade master of Kali the original creator of Kali search local legends master of Kali in the UA-cam came to the headquarters to the Philippines corps know he is the orginal creator use bolo for combat tactics, ginunting, dahon palay, talibong , karambit, combat knife mine ginunting

I'm a Filipino but don't have the knowledge about this Kali martial art. Now I'm binge watching kali videos. Damn, Philippines history was almost completely erased.
Same here
Dude, if you've ever been palo by your parents you would know it's in our blood hahahaha
arnis
Its not erase
Its bc of very whitewashed history tbh ://
Whether in training or actual fight, Kali is just too fast for Kung Fu because it's a close quarter combat designed to kill, maim, disable and mutilate the enemy. Kali is so brutal to be compared with any martial art as it is also designed in wielding a sword, knife, lance, stick, pole or just about anything, combining both offense and defense, with the intent to instantly kill. A street fighter who has unluckily chanced upon a passing kali practitioner must have already been hacked, stabbed and bleeding to death before realizing what had just happened. It's because situational awareness is key in kali and practitioners are trained to react with deadly response. This martial art was designed by ancient Filipinos to counter the weapon superiority of foreign invaders.
Very definitely! I trained in Kali for a number of years when I was in my early 30’s. Kali is for breaking bones, then stabbing them with the busted end of the broken bone.
@@BillysWild ANd used by military too...I wonder, does Chinese kung fu used in military?

I personally think a martial art comes down to the ability of the practitioner. I do kali myself but that does not mean it is superior to any other

@Christian Primaleon sure but one way or another fma gets more atention and people might get to know fma...
Filipno Kali has been adapted by by Philippine police and military as their combat fighting martial art because of it's effectivity and very powerful body contact to put down an enemy by subduing them easily in hand to hand combat....and it has been proven from the wars in Mindanao and isolated regions against muslim extremists and NPA communists...
viralPh Video wait so Jake mace used imagination to create these techniques? Is that why he is not a good practitioner?
viralPh Video ok I would like Jake Mace vs Master Wong to see who is rlly better
The Philippine Guerillas whos under General McArthur in WW2 used some Kali to fight some Japanese soldiers too...
bullshit, all the pnp do is shoot ppl they dont do hand to hand combat the army too
@@deaded7088 So they have infinite ammo?
Awesome. Filipino Martial arts is more on attack attack attack. Look for more opening to hit your enemy. It's a dangerous skills especially if a Kali fighter has a knife imagine how many wounds your opponent could have, it's a massacrer.
I have heard of a kali fighter inflicting 14 deadly knife wounds in under 5 seconds...with the attackers knife
FMA rule is one person to 20, you don't want to mess with the person that masters FMA
That's the point of it! Kill, dislocate, or beat your enemy first inflicting heavy damages before it can pull out something out of it sleeves! That's Kali!
right.. no further combos, kali aims to kill you after 1 to 3 hits. all at the same time.

I used to train in Taekwondo theres so many flaws in this as well as wing chun kung fu, Kali is a lot more effective because the kali practitioner sticks to the attacker smashing weak points where as Taekwondo relies on distance and timing where theres to many gaps and openings that the kali practitioner looks for, TKD isnt a close quarter combat system which is where the defender needs to be to win...
Jake, I want to also say that you have the most positive attitude i have ever seen in a martial arts instructor. You can't stay in a bad mood with you. :)
Our Kali is not as popular compare to any other martial arts... But we Filipinos proud that we have our own unique fighting styles in almost all different aspects
I'm Chinese and grew up starting with Wing Chun and I know what Kali is. If I faced a Filipino armed with Kali... I would say to him... let's be friends.

I like Kali alot, it seems alot like a style I've been working on for years, especially the bicep strike, I love the idea of disabling limbs slightly like that
This is beautiful!!! Thank you for sharing
both requires a lot of self discipline, great timing and all. I respect both kali and kung fu but kali seems more practical... like an energy saving mode lol
these two are my favorite channels of martial Arts .
I love kali for it's knife work but I don't want to say kali is stronger than Chinese martial arts because they both have their strengths and weaknesses, honestly I wouldn't want to fight a master in either.

I really love Kali for its practicality but like any other martial art, I don't like its principle about knife defense. Its knife attacks are fast and is meant kill but its knife defense is fantasy as there is no real way of defending agaisnt a knife attack unarmed. Its either you run or use something to defend against. Just a reminder.

Kali = practical/effective for average joe. Kung Fu = beautiful / requires more skill to be effective. Demonstration shows that the fight can always go either way. One crucial slip followed by a good counter can decide the outcome. Both are good fighting styles.

I don't think it's a question of "Which system/art is more powerful", rather it's which practitioner is better at applying their respective discipline to the situation. A lot of people, on paper, are awesome, but they may just not have the talent/interest/experience in that particular setting. Would love to see some free sparring - sometimes the best strategies come from having none/adapting on the fly.
one of the best videos ive seen. the enthusiasm made me laugh at times, very in-depth and informative video.
I love how both of you share your knowledge from each side of the arts while respecting other practitioner.

Oh yeah try it with real Kali eskrema Filipino masters..try it
They're having fun and learning at the same time. I want that.
Some good creative stuff..thanks guys...
Thanks for the demo...excellent...
Thanks for this demo and comparison. Props to Jake for also dismantling the take downs from another angle - only a few MA enthusiasts here in YT are that considerate. This was quite insightful. I also got interested in kali because of how it was used in a Japanese TV series starring Junichi Okada. I was aware of how kali was similar to krav maga and silat but I never thought to really compare it against traditional Chinese martial arts. Well, this clip has me convinced that kali's natural flexibility has an edge over the Chinese martial arts techniques used in this clip. I am, however, also interested to see how kali stacks up against bajiquan or even wing chun. I'll drop by Paul's channel next.
By exposing your back with that spinning back kick you jeopardize taking a blade in the kidney. In the street always assume they are armed. The first punch could just be a distraction.
Great work guys, both arts compliment each other🤙🏼
I LOVE it!!! Great training.
So basically, if you master Kali and self-defense, you're pretty much a formidable opponent.
Sadly you need to torture yourself to learn Kali, not to mention master it.
Life be like
lol i trained kali under my uncle and he almost killed me a few hundred to thousand times lol
PS: Im from Philippines btw and yes im filipino
It depend to a person.
I’ve been involved with a couple of street fights back in the day, and I’ve had my share of black eyes, bruises, and cuts. But one thing I learned when provoked; I let my opponent throw the first punch or kick so I can hit the elbow or knee. Then I go for the ribs and the neck, that’s about it, after which I walk away or run, no good standing over waiting for some other person throwing a cheap shot at me.
Damn! Beautiful movements. And subbed!
I love the breakdown of this video. It's really cool
As an Okinowan karate guy, I still think you're going to get into trouble with those high spinning kicks, but if you're able to change directions after a miss into a sweep, that's pretty cool.
Hey guys. EXCELLENT comparison! I was trained in Kali in my service days...and it is damn effective, especially in Military applications. However, in civil existence i had a chance to full on spar with a Mantis style expert...no pads and full contact..full speed...and I got to say one thing..."I would not want to do it again😁!" Great job guys!!! Kudos to both of you!
This is a really nice video exploring defense options based on movement!!! Train on!
This is a good visual reference of the progression of steps of each art. I wish it was longer.
Kali ! I think everyone can do it, very enjoyable! But that style of Kung fu , you need to be young , fit and flexible! Kali looks a bit more useful on the street! No where near me any Kali place otherwise I would of took it up!
Exactly, anyone can be a kali/arnis/escrima practitioner. Have you seen videos of GM Rene Tongson? His movements are very natural, fast and deadly (and he is an older guy). Our Arnis club had him over once, it was very cool :D
Kali is used by American army and Russian spetsnaz. Not just for streets

I think the most powerful martial art is the one you're dedicated to - so long as you gain experience defending against other styles. This is one reason why I've thought tournaments, where multiple styles are represented, are important. Schools that don't compete, or compete with only those of their own style, are missing out on allot.
That was Bruce Lee's philosophy.
Nice demo. Tactics like these can be practical in real survival street fight, but in a really focused and relaxed, and power strike way.
Fair dos Jake and Paul on your open minded approach to learning other martial arts
a hybrid of both of these styles would be unbeatable .. i think thats what you guys were trying to say to us right? i learned alot from this short video. thanks Jake and Paul! Id love to see more of these
Yes, I always enjoy seeing how arts are similar and how they could compliment each other. Thanks for watching Doug :)
OUTSTANDING guys everything in every art has its power I SAY LEARN THEM ALL AND THEN EXTRACT ALL THINGS POWERFUL THEN COMBINE THEM IN A PRACTICAL WAY
Great video! Both techniques are very effective. Also, it depends on the practitioner
I like how they add sound fx while explaining
You can see the major differences in the style of the arts between the two. For this demonstration, Kung Fu is always trying to force a distance in order to get away from the fight. For Kali, which is I think the point of the art, is to always have the close encounter when dealing a problem. In Kali, creating space is a form of stalemate or a chance to run away. But when stuck in a corner or a small alley way, getting in close quarter is the best chance to fight for Kali. With that said, they are 2 different styles when dealing a fight! For me, I think Kung Fu is a good way to really get away from a fight, especially when you just want to create some distance, run away, and not deal with it. Kali deals the problem in close quarters, which has a chance of getting hurt in the process; hence, a last resort when stuck in a corner. Certainly, Kali can be effective in distance fighting, especially when you have weapons. I'm just assuming, for the sake of the demonstration shown, that it is only a hand-to-hand combat.
Different forms of Kung Fu can vary widely. Some are best in wide open spaces however, Wing Chun like Kali are best in tight confined spaces like in a bathroom or a bar.
It doesn't matter if you learned lots of moves if you practice alone, without experience you'll get nervous...
U got me
@@francejmpadilla143 you felt it too right? The anxiety of getting hit back...

Yeah but it is impractical
Kali is more based in movement and positioning as far as defense tho. So while it might look nice when properly done, like he said in the video, you have be in the right position in order to pull it off. It does look cool tho. But honestly, by the time you ever get to that, you'll probably have been striked 10 to 20 times already against Kali.
I think his hook sweep was a last ditch effort, and he seemed to know it was kind of a weak effort.
Hook sweep, nice in a staged kung fu film.... Too flashy. Get straight to the business end. In, kill and out
Thankew so very much - both are masters (y)
I think this is the best martial art video i've seen in my entire life. No exaggeration, no bullshit. Why? It does not only give me the idea of what the topic, Kung-Fu vs. Kali, is all about but the presentor/s also demonstrate it. The best part is in here 10:14 where they both show the advantage of one over the other, how to counter it, the alternative move if this one action is taken instead of the other one, and among others. They simply shown that there is no martial art that is superior than the other one. The superiority of one MA is determined to whoever execute it better. Meaning, it depends on the person. Good job.
i know kali filipino martial arts one of the best self defense...2 trumbs

I'm late to the party I know, I'll use the one I need too. Speed and then after that more Speed. I believe in both styles. Sometimes it depends on who you're fighting. AND Good Luck. I'd rather walk away.
Cool moves for both of you.

I think the hook sweep won’t be fast enough for the elbow because the “block” of kali will add momentum to your kick. Basically you need to stop the momentum before you can hook sweep.
My dad and I practice Kali footwork to minimize the distance between me and the opponent to avoid getting kicked. It's also a quicker way to break the wind pipe, break joints, and blind grapplers. Being a girl I always hated getting close to the enemy so I prefer armed combat. But 10 years later he confessed why he avoided the kicking distance--- he can't do high Sikaran kicks (Filipino art like Taekwando) because his huge belly always gets in the way
At 4:50 he says ill duck under your punch. Guy looks at camera and is like wtf are you serious? His look is priceless.
Nice exchange of techniques... I like it
Kali is way more effective. Fancy spinning kicks are really hard to land on a real fight.
One move that can defeat any known man The "Nut crack"
They are both good and complimentary to each other. Absorb what is useful and reject what is not practical.
Wow.,..i Like. Your martial arts Video .
Jake, as always, amazing material. Thanks a lot, from your Perussian friend!
I like how Kali keeps balance while effectively switching weight.
Learning one from another is a sign of humility .
Both are great styles and very useful depending if you have real pressure testing and real situations you actually used it in. Any one can better the other in a situation depending on the level and experience of each person, body type and body size, health and age, environment being fought in , and so much other factors, i think it is great both are showing real skills in this video,
Kali is what may have influenced Okinawan martial arts, mixed with fujian white Crain from China for its hard, linear attacks-but also give karate it’s interplay between relaxation and tension. Fujian white Crain most probably influenced the early fighting systems, like tang-te (Chinese hand-parent martial art to karate), Kali and many more.
