Kali is not a self defense martial art, it's an offensive combative martial art with intent to damage, disable, and or give the oponent the final kill. When we were kids, my grandpa taught us the basics, and the first one he taught us was in the close contact just step on the oponent's feet with whole body weight and quickly give the oponent combination of punches. He taught us too to punch the arm muscle close to the armpit that could induce pain and may possibly dislocate armpit joint, just like you see in the video. Saved me from bullies😊😎

    how?
    strike EYES for SIGHT.

Whether in training or actual fight, Kali is just too fast for Kung Fu because it's a close quarter combat designed to kill, maim, disable and mutilate the enemy. Kali is so brutal to be compared with any martial art as it is also designed in wielding a sword, knife, lance, stick, pole or just about anything, combining both offense and defense, with the intent to instantly kill. A street fighter who has unluckily chanced upon a passing kali practitioner must have already been hacked, stabbed and bleeding to death before realizing what had just happened. It's because situational awareness is key in kali and practitioners are trained to react with deadly response. This martial art was designed by ancient Filipinos to counter the weapon superiority of foreign invaders.

Thanks for this demo and comparison. Props to Jake for also dismantling the take downs from another angle - only a few MA enthusiasts here in YT are that considerate. This was quite insightful. I also got interested in kali because of how it was used in a Japanese TV series starring Junichi Okada. I was aware of how kali was similar to krav maga and silat but I never thought to really compare it against traditional Chinese martial arts. Well, this clip has me convinced that kali's natural flexibility has an edge over the Chinese martial arts techniques used in this clip. I am, however, also interested to see how kali stacks up against bajiquan or even wing chun. I'll drop by Paul's channel next.

I’ve been involved with a couple of street fights back in the day, and I’ve had my share of black eyes, bruises, and cuts. But one thing I learned when provoked; I let my opponent throw the first punch or kick so I can hit the elbow or knee. Then I go for the ribs and the neck, that’s about it, after which I walk away or run, no good standing over waiting for some other person throwing a cheap shot at me.

I think the most powerful martial art is the one you're dedicated to - so long as you gain experience defending against other styles. This is one reason why I've thought tournaments, where multiple styles are represented, are important. Schools that don't compete, or compete with only those of their own style, are missing out on allot.

You can see the major differences in the style of the arts between the two. For this demonstration, Kung Fu is always trying to force a distance in order to get away from the fight. For Kali, which is I think the point of the art, is to always have the close encounter when dealing a problem. In Kali, creating space is a form of stalemate or a chance to run away. But when stuck in a corner or a small alley way, getting in close quarter is the best chance to fight for Kali. With that said, they are 2 different styles when dealing a fight! For me, I think Kung Fu is a good way to really get away from a fight, especially when you just want to create some distance, run away, and not deal with it. Kali deals the problem in close quarters, which has a chance of getting hurt in the process; hence, a last resort when stuck in a corner. Certainly, Kali can be effective in distance fighting, especially when you have weapons. I'm just assuming, for the sake of the demonstration shown, that it is only a hand-to-hand combat.

I think this is the best martial art video i've seen in my entire life. No exaggeration, no bullshit. Why? It does not only give me the idea of what the topic, Kung-Fu vs. Kali, is all about but the presentor/s also demonstrate it. The best part is in here 10:14 where they both show the advantage of one over the other, how to counter it, the alternative move if this one action is taken instead of the other one, and among others. They simply shown that there is no martial art that is superior than the other one. The superiority of one MA is determined to whoever execute it better. Meaning, it depends on the person. Good job.

It's also a quicker way to break the wind pipe, break joints, and blind grapplers. Being a girl I always hated getting close to the enemy so I prefer armed combat. But 10 years later he confessed why he avoided the kicking distance--- he can't do high Sikaran kicks (Filipino art like Taekwando) because his huge belly always gets in the way
